I don't care what this movie's ending says. Mulan & Xing Xing are the REAL romantic leads in this.

They didn't want to be racist, so instead of drawing them Chinese they made them half bugs. Because logic.

Been trying to find the singer for Mulan on imdb, she also did Anastasia’s voice in their Secret of Anastasia movie. Whoever she is, her voice is WAY too good for these movies!

I remember this movie! My mom was one of the poor parents that accidentally got this instead of the Disney one. Luckily we just borrowed it from a Blockbuster rather than buying it.

The main problem with this version of Mulan is that with another female who seems to have a high ranking position in the army there was no point in Mulan pretending to be a man because it looks like they have no problem with a woman being in the army. Also I am just going to say it, they made a more convincing love story between Mulan and the other female in the army than they did with Mulan and the prince, but of course they would have Mulan get with the prince because they couldn’t have their hero be a lesbian, my desire to facepalm is so strong right now.

Ugh. I remember getting this movie when I was little, thinking it would be like the Disney version, and being so bored that I stopped watching halfway through. BTW: it kind of defeats the purpose of Mulan dressing as a man when there's clearly another female involved. Oops.

The animation makes them look like rejected teenage mutant ninja turtle characters

I swear, they make all the characters' eyes look like soulless triangles and squares. Reminds me of how I used to draw stuff in middle school.

Okay; Year of the Fire Horse is a thing in Chinese astrology. It's noteworthy because people born in that year are rebellious, headstrong, energetic and enthusiastic. Not great traits in a traditional society, especially not in a girl, so we know that Mulan is cosmically destined to be heroic but fated to be a social outsider. In this context it all makes sense.

This is the most bizarre method of ripping off a Disney classic I've ever seen...

Hey wait a minute, that armor is her father's and her father is a butterfly... so how come it wasn't designed to be able to put her wings through it?? And if her father wore it while he himself was still a caterpillar, why was he planning on wearing it this time he went to war instead of getting a new breastplate that would accommodate his wings?

Did anyone else have a strong urge to turn off the video when the villains started signing? Also, why do Mulan and her relatives looks disturbingly human? 27:29 My thoughts exactly.

Honestly, I kinda have to give props to the creators of this movie for doing something different by making all of the characters bugs and stuff, but....why?

The sad thing is I really like the character designs except the generic fairy dragonfly/butterfly characters. The idea of it all being bugs fighting over maybe a few yards is HILARIOUS. Unfortunately interesting character concepts and chances at great self-aware jokes are wasted :( in the hands of a good writer this could have been at least decent instead of boring and waste of character design.

Also at that "is that a rabbit or a hunched kangaroo" it's neither. It's a gray springhare, which is found in deserts. Mostly in North Africa.

Mulan and the dragonfly lady had more chemistry. Those 2 getting together would have been a fun surprise.

Mulan, what have they done to you? Why are you half-caterpillar? You didn't deserve this and Shang too even if he's kinda cool as a butterfly! I'm glad Mushu and cricket wasn't there or else, they will be ugly bunny-frog monsters or something ugly. This movie was as worst as Mulan 2, geez!

So...some of the insects have two arms and two legs, some have two arms and four legs, and some have two arms and _six_ legs (including almost all of the good-guy soldiers, which has some...troubling implications if they're supposed to be caterpillars). And there are also a bunch of critters that should be minor kaiju compared to bugs, but are inexplicably at the same scale, and I think there's a snake that's the size of a worm relative to the insects... What's up with these character designs? There's so few of them, and they're so erratic.

hold on a minute. these guys made this child-friendly crap version about Mulan? they thought a Disney-film would be too scary for kids? freaking Disney! do these guys even know the original stories behind popular Disney-films, like Mulan, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Tangled and Jungle Book? Well at least in this adaptation of Mulan they remembered she could actually fight before joining the army. It is kind of weird that a lot of adaptations sort of depower her to make her more relatable.

Mulan's solo reminds me of a bargain-basement, solo version of "Sun and Moon" (from "Miss Saigon" by way of Disney...or maybe Frank Wildhorn's second string ;-) ). Not the worst thing I've ever heard though...that would have to go to "One Heart" from Legends of OZ [a rip-off twice over at least!] )

Not that this movie or anyone cares, but butterflies can suffer quite a bit of damage to their wings before they're unable to fly. The amount that the dad butterfly has is hardly any damage at all; he can still fly just fine.

'We're love interests now despite having less than 30 secs of screentime and most of it being either orders or promotions'. But they had to pair them up bc by the number kids movie means the male and female leads end up together. Also bc Disney did that.

Is the animation down grading? There was the Secret of the Hunchback which looked okay. This which looks almost passable and then Secret of Anastasia, which doesn't even look passable for a cheap animated short.
