People also don't give her enough credit for shattering a stubborn Pikes Peak record. My first "experience" with Michele was one year later Acropolis 1983. First stage Parnitha she was first to pass, the begining of the stage was uphill tarmac and I was standing on the top of a hairpin after a long straight. First you hear the Audi climbing up the mountain and then there she was approaching the turn so fast.., my immediate thought was "she is never going to make the hairpin", and she just didi it... Maybe I had this impression because it was the first car passing or because of the tarmac the speed was higher and the braking late, but still waiting to see Michele for the first time leaving you with this feeling was magical.. From all of my rally memories, one I will never forget. Michele always in love with you.

@@jonathanpinckney9227 I know what you want to say. And I agree. What I wanted to say is this - Im a father of a daughter that want to go racing. And perhaps more girls would be more inspired to go racing if they see a woman in the sport. I understand that the skil should be the most importand thing but if a young girl see a woman in a top motosport she will have more determination to do so. Also my youngest daughter who is now six years old is starter to follow the motorsport because she see her oldest sister and she want to be like her.
@AntiVaganza
@AntiVaganza 4 месяца назад
@@user-dr9qw1mm5m I have to applaud you for your civil reply. I for one think "We" do need more women and girls in motorsport and for @jonathan to be so blissfully ignorant that he thinks "they just need to show their skills" is to completely disregard how motorsport is simply not set up for women to succeed. Like you say, there are not enough role models. Not enough sponsors willing to take chances on women, not enough backing in most places. It's slowly getting better with a more organized effort but that will still take years to take effect. But once the sport is a whole lot more welcoming, then the talents will be found. And good luck to you and your girls, that's awesome!
@jonathanpinckney9227
@jonathanpinckney9227 4 месяца назад
@@AntiVaganza I'll admit, I am ignorant when it comes to motorsports. Is there something preventing women from succeeding in motorsports, or are you saying they should change the sport to cater more towards women, specifically?
@AntiVaganza
@AntiVaganza 4 месяца назад
@@jonathanpinckney9227 Ah, sorry if I came of as harsh, then. Yeah, it's mostly that it's just so engrained that it's a guys' sport. There are so few women in the sport - on any level, in any position. It really is a boys' club on the performance side (a few exceptions but not many). It's slowly changing, but actually as opposed to many other sports, the cool thing is that women can actually compete on an equal level. There are examples of girls beating boys in the early gocart classes and then the boys get the backing to continue to the higher classes (it's out of the reach for most families to progress past gocart without sponsors) and some of those boys end up world champions of F1, literally. All this, just to say, that yes, there are girls out that with the talent, it's just that they don't catch the same breaks as the boys and they fall by the wayside. It's slowly changing, the sport itself has realized something must be done, so there are programs now to get more girls into the sport - also on the engineering side - and to make pathways financially for the real talents not to get stranded. The talent pool is not huge yet, but that comes back to the lack of role models. If you are a young girl and you have never seen a female racing driver, it's hard to start believing you could become one. In tennis, basket, cycling, swimming, skiing, etc, etc, etc you will see women making a living from their sport and passion. Very few such cases - and even fewer high profile ones - in motorsport. But if the initiatives in place now stay in place and grow, there's no reason why there couldn't be a female F1 driver on the grid in 10-15 years time or so. Maybe a bit more depending on how big it becomes on the grassroots level of course. Statistically, I guess with a bigger pool of talent to get those special ones.

I loved how group b unfolded in the 1980s with the 037 lancia and then that delta s4 had me hooked. Henry Toivonen was so talented and I will never forget that accident that took his life 😢 I stayed loyal to the sport when in the late 1980s came group A cars which was a absolutely amazing time to watch too. Lancia 6xwrc champions then it moved forward in to the 1990s and a whole new breed of drivers and cars.wrc has and still is the most exciting sport on the planet especially if you old enough to know ❤

Quietly confident and modest. She is an amazing woman and should be celebrated more often. 42 years later and she hasn't been succeeded as the Queen of Speed.

I don't know much about WRC and absolutely had no idea this woman existed. So cool hearing her story and reading up about all the other amazing stuff she's done in her life. Thanks for sharing this and giving her some exposure for us that aren't in the WRC fandom, stuff like this is really great to learn about!

At 5:20 seconds she spins-out and loses about 10 or 15 seconds ... And she said her mom was on that curve ,,, and is always getting on to her about her time ... & that was incredible to have to explain that to your mother ... Love Rally ,,, THE FANS ARE THE BEST !!! THANKS ...

She’s just amazing and so lacking in nostalgia regarding the racing. Maybe it’s that “in the moment” attitude that made her SO fast!

This lady is a beast, makes me love motorsports even more. In a physical competition we don’t get to see men honestly lose to a woman almost ever. But behind the wheel, where it’s all skill, knowledge, and bravery, she showed she was the best
