Jordan also said this about Longley in a documentary that came out after the last dance. "I can understand why Australia would say why wouldn't we include Luc' and we probably should have," Jordan said. "I guess if you look back and say 'could I change anything' that's what I could have changed. "Luc matters to me. We went through the trenches, we shared a lot. We competed together. I would take him any day of the week. If you ask me to do it all over again there is no way I would leave Luc Longley off my team." The reason Longley wasn’t involved in The Last Dance had more to do with Covid and the fact that he lives in a very remote location in Australia than it did Mike’s ego. Plus he was recovering from surgery related to injuries suffered during his NBA career. It’s a really good watch and the respect that Jordan has for him is obvious
Facts this is one of the many things kobe inherited from MJ kobe never complimented teammates until the game was over Complacency is a demon it can get the best of us no matter how good we are
@@T1Oracle😂😂😂😂 the foo spoke like someone who needs his personal space counting to 10 reminding themself that they is kind they is smart they is importnant lol
@x tucs. Let me know how far you plan to lower the bar. If Lebron were playing by the rules of 2001 and 2002, he wouldn't have made the playoffs despite playing with three future Hall of famers.
He didn't say he'd never compliment him again, just not during the game. I've come across A LOT of ppl who react to compliments the same way and I'll admit I used to be like that as well so I completely understand....it's more normal than most ppl think
Facts i have a cousin like luc you can't compliment those type of people like that it goes to their heads they'll start slacking a lil and you're right it's more common than people think💭
Not enough people give credit to Jerry Sloan's adjustments on closing the lane to make Longley uncomfortable in the paint. Sloan is so underrated as a coach
I don’t really think Jerry Sloan did such an effective job coaching in that series. The Jazz got blown out by 42 points in Game 3, after having lost Game 2 on their home floor and blowing home court advantage. The Jazz were lucky enough to squeak by and win Game 1. Then in Game 6 the Jazz failed to take advantage of the fact that Scottie Pippen was injured, they allowed Jordan to dominate and help the Bulls keep pace with Utah.
@@edkiely2712 If you read carefully what I wrote, I never SAID Scottie Pippen missed any Finals games against the Jazz. Pippen injured his back during the ‘98 ECF against the Pacers, then he re-aggravated the injury before Game 6 in Utah. He played Game 6 but was severely limited by the injury, scoring only 8 points.
@Sean OK! But why are you discussing the finals, or the other commentator, when the posted video has nothing to do with the finals? Jordan is referring to a specific regular season game that Pippin missed where Longley excelled in the 1st quarter in his absence. Stay on topic! Also, I always like typical "fan logic!" So, when the Jazz win game #1 in the '98 series at home- they were "lucky!" I'm assuming then when the Bulls won game #1 at home in the '97 series on Kerr's last second shot, that it had nothing to do with luck? How about they were well played games by two excellent teams, where the difference, both in '97 & '98, was the Bulls had maybe the greatest player to lace 'em up? Luck is for people who look at the past and want to "rewrite" narratives to fit their confirmation biases! Good day!
@@edkiely2712Because not everyone can be so blessed as to be blind, and unable to read like you! That's why we are discussing Jerry Sloan. The video? About Jordan. The comment you have decided to be a dimwhit, and troll on? Was about how Jerry Sloan was an underappreciated and underrated basketball coach. Now? If only you would read before you're commenting? We could get so much further. So? I'm just curious? Since your Gen Z and all? Who told you about the 97, and 98 NBA finals? 😅😂
what really happened was after Q1, Sloan was like "We gotta shut down Longley...he's killing us inside" and made adjustments. cause they probably weren't checking for Luc at the start.
He never had a game with that stat line. I found every game of his career against the jazz and there was a game where he had 12 points, but he had six rebounds and only one block. The rest of the games in his career against the Jazz he never scored more than 12 except for one game where he had 20. He also never had four blocks in a game in his career going to suggest the most do you ever had was 3
People think being the goat is a one man show with a bunch of stats and clutch performances. It’s about being a leader and making everyone around them better.
I know you ain't talking about Luc pissing you off while he was leading the team in damn near everything. 19 points, 9 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 3.6 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. and you got 9 points and can't shoot talking about he don't have any dawg in him lol.
But Luc was on the NBA, playing with Michael Jordan. Pretty sure he was a beast when he was still in college, or else, he wouldn't be on the NBA. So, I don't buy it. There's no way you will be so pissed at him.
Luc was a great teammate… That was my man… Always… Nicest guy, great talent… And for this idiot that talks about points, etc., You have no idea … I don’t argue with fools…
That's what Michael Jordan does! He makes players around him better! AMEN TO THE, "GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER EVER TO LACE EM UP!" M. J. THE G. O. A. T. FOREVER MICHAEL JORDAN! 👏👍✌️💙💙💙
No one was better around MJ. Luc was the same every year in the league and pippen was better without MJ. MJ was a great player. But he never made anyone better
I can see where Mike took that personally. Where he complimented a teammate, and it's like Luc threw that in his face by not moving any further forward. I bet Mike blamed himself for that for a long time. Thereafter MJ rarely did that again.
Which is sad because it amped him up to see his teammate putting in that high level together, then throwing the mentality out the window. Those who shared it with Jordan succeeded with him
Here's how you get everlasting respect from Michael Jordan. 1). Drastically overperform in a pressure situation and get the victory. 2). Die immediately afterwards.
MJ is allowed to critique his own teammates, but Charles Barkley saying he has the wrong people around him and isn’t do a good job as an owner is where MJ draws the line!
Truth bombs I gave a huge compliment and $$$ to a couple of our employees who work in the field who had consistently performed at a high level but soon after they started to fall back into their old ways. I give this story absolute credence. It’s not true of all people btw you just have to be careful I guess.
He said “it’s OK mate” and that’s when it became personal for me. In my head I went “oh you think it’s ok to just quit on me like that? Ok”. From that point on, I went out of my way to make his life hell. I wanted to make sure he understood that it wasn’t OK.
He must be talking about the February 4, 1998 game, Bulls at Jazz. Luc Longley finishes the first quarter with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and zero blocks. Longley ends the game with 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 block. None of the Finals games fit this story at all. Jordan is The Greatest, but he is slightly off here. Also, Scottie Pippen played about 25 minutes in that game. Oh, and the Bulls LOST that game, 101-93.
He never had a game with that stat line. I found every game of his career against the jazz and there was a game where he had 12 points, but she had six rebounds and only one block. The rest of the games in his career against the Jazz she never scored more than 12 except for one game where he had 20. He also never had four blocks in a game in his career going to suggest the most do you ever had was 3 blocks
have you also tried to find the game which MJ said Rodman got thrown out and later on asked him for a cigar as an apology? I can't find that one as well.
@salvadorluna6453 thanks for replying, but no, that's not the game as the Rodman book came out on April 97, the game MJ referring to was on 97-98 season (some reports say it was on November 97)
The game MJ is talking about occurred Feb 4, 1998 but was not at all like MJ recalled. Pip actually started and played all 12 minutes in Q1, as did Longley. Longley played less than 3 minutes in Q2 and actually had positive +/-. MJ played 11 minutes in Q2 and had -11 +/-. MJ played all 12 minutes in Q3 and had -13 +/-. tl;dr The Jazz actually blew out the Bulls in Q2 and Q3 while MJ was on the court, not while Longley was on the court.
I mean, it makes sense. Michael never just settled for getting his numbers in the first half then coasting the rest of the game. He didn't care what the score was, he never let off the gas.
You can tell MJ really cared about his teammates. In another video, he called Steve Kerr to apologize, he flew to Vegas to get Rodman back, and he showed his disapproval to Bulls management for giving Pippen a shitty contract. You can't stop the goatness 😊
Greatest basketball player ever yes, Humanitarian not even a little bit. The only reason he did any of those things was because he needed a cohesive team to win. How many people from that team are still close friends with him today? We're just lucky he chose basketball instead of world domination.
😂 Loc : just prove that he careless about win or loss.. he made his status on paper & careless about anything else.. He just proves that he could have been dominant during his career but selfish.. Right then M.J. knows what he was doing..
