The Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls had one of the greatest rivalries in sports history during the Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas years.
The year is 1989, and it is the Eastern Conference Finals. Isiah Thomas and his Pistons have yet to win an NBA championship, but have made the NBA Finals previously (the year before). The Bulls, led by Jordan, are looking for make their first finals during the Jordan-era. Detroit is up 3-2 in the series and the Lakers are waiting for the winner. Detroit is attempting to close out the series on the road in Chicago Stadium.
This video will showcase two legendary guards -- Jordan and Thomas -- going at it in game 6 of the 1989 ECF. All of their highlights (not just their made field goals) will be showcased in this thorough highlight video.
Enjoy!

Thomas always had the more loaded team, even in the year he got swept by Bulls, so I don't blame Jordan for losing to Pistons a lot. In 88, Pistons had Thomas, Dumas and Dantly, 3HOFers. In 89 & 90, Dantly was gone but Aguirre joined and Rodman matured into DPOY and became an all star. All Jordan had during those years was an under-development Pippen. Once Pippen matured in 90s, there's no looking back. In 91 Bulls with only 2 HOFers in Jordan & Pippen swept Pistons w/ 3 HOFers in Thomas, Dumas and Rodman. And there goes the myth that Jordan never beat a super loaded team.

@@JAWrightonline This is the most disingenuous argument I keep hearing and it’s getting old. Scottie was not a difference maker his rookie season. Isiah shot the ball terribly in this game (12-28). It would have been much worse had it not been for his quick hands leading to 3 or 4 layups. He had one good stretch of hitting mid-range jump shots. He was also 9-10 from the line. But, with the exception of Hodges (6-12) and Paxson(4-6), Jordan had no help. His team looked like the G League out there. Cartwright was, well, Cartwright. Had one of the all-time ugliest shooting forms. One stat will demonstrate how tired Jordan was. He went 5-12 from the line!

@@sholovesholove4620 Okay, I assumed that people reading the comments watched the highlights. By itself it doesn't prove it. But it was obvious from the footage that he was exhausted. And it only makes sense as he averaged over 42 minutes per game during the playoff run with all 3 series being very physical and competitive. And it didn't help that Pippen was injured in the first minute of the game and didn't play during the rest of the contest. Jordan shot free throws at an 83.5% average over his career. Anyone could have a bad game, but this appears to be obviously from exhaustion.

The Pistons were the nastiest team in team competitions ever. How MJ made it through that era and still be alive was pure will, courage, and determination. He was punished and murdered every night when he went up against the Pistons, and he still gave them respect and never deterred or anything like wanting to quit. That's what made him the 🐐 of all times. No players ever had to go through anything like it.

Pippen did not return after that elbow. MJ scored 32, made 13 assists. but did 5/12 from free throw line. Horace made 13 rebounds. Isaah went for 33 points, Dennis Rodman made 15 rebounds. Bulls got eliminated. Great rivalry, physical game. You don't see this in todays weak-ass era.

So,bthe ENTIRE "offense" was Jordan come down the court and shoot it EVERY time. If that didn't work, Jordan does a palm dribble and stutter step and jumps into a back pedaling defender and gets a foul. If he didn't get the call and gets hung up in the air, THEN, and only then would he pass. No wonder the Piatons wiped the floor with that GARBAGE team.

22:45😆 Jordan missed a lot of shots this game but he was such a slippery player when it came to creating his own shots and getting open plus great timing and shot selection...I hated Detroit because they were great and they destroyed my Blazers either this year or the next in the Finals...not because I'm a IT hater or a Jordan cheerleader fanboy but out of disappointment😢 both these Chicahoe teams killed us back to back in the Finals and we ain't been back since😂

@@robertm.3520 there's a reason why his stats decreased a lot, and they knew he could put up stats, but it wasn't enough. So yes, they did contain him. Just like older players contained wilt. I don't think basketball fans understand winning stats and only see raw stats as enough

the pistons had basically figured out how to win under the rules (basically never allowing dunks and layups if someone on their team was back on defense). The nba changed the rules about flagrant/tossing players out fairly easily for this at the end of their run, this is the real reason the pistons walked off the court with time on the clock vs bulls, it was basically protest against a softer and softer more and more pro offense nba, and it appears they were right bc the nba today is boring as hell...and just look at "migraine headache pippen" showing his cards early in career LoLz

Sorry MJ, u can't bring in your own shoulder the brunt of winning without the help of your precious partner and hall of famer Scottie Pippen. It is unfortunate that Scottie never came back from that so early accidental elbow hit in the forehead by Laimbeer. Scottie decided not to comeback but rather played nintendo games in the locker room. And this game, is the first of the back to back championships of the well known, "bad boy's " of Detroit.

Isaiah Shit Bag Thomas was one of my favorite players ever to watch. His dribbling was friggin insane!! And dribbling rules were more strict back then, he wasn’t ALLOWED to do what Kyrie does. I always remember as a kid he was on my Wheaties box once, and the description was dead on accurate when it said that he dribbled like there was a yoyo string attached to the ball. It made it even more enjoyable to watch him because he was just 6’1”, and putting people on skates both big & small!!
