When I hear Michael Kay all I hear is: “Whomp whomp whomp whomp.” Blame the guy who is responsible for putting this horrid roster together Blame the guy who gave 25 million dollars to 37 year old who is hitting well below 200. This team stinks!!!! From the manager to the front office unacceptable .
Cashman has built an awful team it’s not even an exaggeration anymore. He’s shown he’s not capable of building a consistent quality roster anymore. We’ve lucky to have Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole who are the only elite players performing on the team.
It took time. The smoke and mirrors just won't work any longer. I despise him. Hal it Public Enemy #1. Stop spending $$$$$ on this sham. I am going to look back at the roster and numbers of that 1968 Yankee team. Let's compare. 1968. Got that I graduated from HS in 1968 😵😵😵😵💋💋
Once dj turned down the first offer i wanted him gone . I knew he was not gonna age well . Infielders rarely age well . I wanted that money spent on pitching
Hal Steinbrenner isn’t going to answer to anything. Honestly I’ll be surprised if he actually comes on the show. If he does, he’s going blame the players and spew the same nonsense about it all being a crapshoot. He’ll take no responsibility whatsoever, and he’ll mindlessly defend Cashman and Boone. This is what the Yankees are now, and nothing is going to change in the foreseeable future.
ima be honest, as a lifelong Yankee from from NJ, I've kind of fallen away and started watching and following hockey more since the Yankees have started to forget how to play baseball. The Yankees above all else are not supposed to and have no excuse to be this bad and get paid that much.
Kay will never admit that the problems come from the top. No, firing Cashman and Boone won't turn them into a 100 win team this year, but the team was put together and led by Cashman and Boone.
Kay clearly knows that all problems stem from the Cashman ethos but he just won’t put it all together and say it. He hates the analytics-obsessed philosophy that Cashman creates and that Boone Carrie’s out; he hate the roster construction, he hates the dumb trades… this is all Cashman’s area. I’m sure that when Hal is on they will commiserate about bad luck and injuries.
Then again the Yankees extended Boone despite his horrible ability to manage both the team & the players. He's freakin awful. The worst we've ever had as far as I can remember since becoming a fan in 77. For that I would've just kept Girardi
Correction: Donaldson was already washed up before he came here. The only team who would sign him is the old "let's sign a player past his prime" NY yankees!!
Speaks of a front office buying names to provide baseball entertainment, but not to win. It's been this approach for years. Stanton is a good example of big money for homers, knowing full well they'll never win a championship with him.
It's sad. Lack of team talent has never been the question in my mind, it's poor management and clubhouse morale. Players want to play well, but they don't want to win. Same for Boone.
Kay won’t even ask Hal why cashman and Boone deserves to stay when he interviews him. Mike Francesca said Kay had no integrity and is a company boy and Kay got extremely angry but franseca was right. If Boone and cashman won’t be fired then nothing will change.
I never knew that mike francesa had said something like that. That's probably why mike francesa is no more welcome at the stadium. I believe he had said it in one of his shows. He's not as close to the front office or the players as he used to be. Because mike isn't going to suck a** or dic*** like michael k the yes man network poster boy. Mike is going to call things out for what they are. It seems like everybody is allergic to the truth nowadays. I've said it before on many other nyy content creators, everything woke goes to s***. When this organization decided that it was gonna price out the blue collar worker from being able to Is afford box seats. That was it. This front office and this ownership used taxpayer dollars for that stadium. And then turned around and fucked the fans. You gotta be a hollywood star or have a trust fund and what if we just sit on the field seats. I would love to see the stadium empty. That's the only way you're going to get real change. But you can't tell generational yankee fans how to carry on with their fandom. That's what makes this country beautiful you do as you please.
@@jamesryan4618 agreed, but anybody who knows baseball could see that this was a poorly constructed roster especially for 290 million. But it doesn’t matter bc cash won’t get fired so we’ll just run back the same formula next year that doesn’t work.
Volpe should have never been called up to begin this season. That move was done to appease the fans. We have two washed up hacks playing third base. Torres is a turtle, and we have two mediocre catchers. Our outfield is made up of guys who shouldn’t be in the majors
What are you talking about? Volpe outperformed all other candidates for the Shortstop job in Spring Training. He may need to go down to AAA to work out some things. But in Spring Training he won the job fair and square.
@@AJolls Peraza should be on this club, no question. He is just a slow starter so that opened up the job for Volpe to take. But Donaldson needs to go and Peraza does need to be on this club. But as I heard Michael just say, they love Donaldson. Which sucks for Peraza.
Spring training stats dont mean a damned thing . Higgy proved tgat 2 years ago . Volpe is there cause he is a feel good story plain and simple . Anyone else gets sent down by now
In analytics defense, no analytics team from any of the other 31 teams would suggest dumping over 100 million a season into the rotting corpses of DJLM, Donaldson, and Rizzo, to go along with another 40 in Stanton and IKF. Complete insanity how the Yanks thought that was a excellent idea.
Ikf isnt the problem per se . And stanton and donaldson were brought in because of their power . Which analytics loves . Dj was brought back because he had one great year or so . I didnt want him back
We should trade Kay!!!! He's terrible. I used to respect his point until he started kissing serious Yankees front office a$$! It's so pathetically obvious
The Red Sox aren't a bad team. In fact they are playing better than we all thought they would. They are in last place yes, but it's not like they are 10 games back in last place. Only 2 1/2 games back from the Yankees. They are basically breathing down our necks. Honestly they are probably the best last place team in the AL.
@@dom12011 That's exactly what I was about to say. I went to one Pawtucket game in 2017 and saw this kid hitting like no one else and thought, "Wow, who's he?" -- well, now we know who Devers is. Too bad Boston let Mookie and Xander walk or they'd had 3 perennial all-stars in the lineup, but as it is the Red Sox position players are looking much better than NY. I only follow Boston when they play NY, so I can say as much about the pitching but they are not that far behind. NY's only consistent strengths are Cole and the bullpen.
You are thinking in the wrong direction. When we know why management puts Aaron Judge batting 2nd in the lineup, we will have some insight into why the Yankees have had these problems for the last several years. The way the Yankees are organized to play baseball has hand a negative impact on the players behavior on the field! These are structural issues that will time and pain to deal with; management does not have the will to change.
I’ve been saying it for years, half a decade now. The problem is their hitting! The Yankees haven’t been eliminated in the playoffs because of their pitching since 2008. It’s always their offense
How the hell do people call Michael Kay a corporate schill? He literally tells it like it is and I often find myself agreeing with 95% of the things he says.
That might be the dumbest fucking thing I've ever read on social media and that's saying a lot. They took on 300 million dollars worth of salary as a favor to Jeter. Fuck you can't be that stupid
"The Red Sox are not a great team". Agree. But they're only 2 games behind the Yankees with $120 Million less payroll. Rays are 10 1/2 games ahead of Yankees with $230 Million less payroll. It's a contest between the Mets and the Yankees for the worst franchise in baseball!
Everyday a different lineup different positions hitting in random spots in the lineup messes with these dudes!!!! Ball players are creatures of habit but on this team they never know day to day where tf their playing.. The whole philosophy we have is wrong!! God damn bat to ball make contact quit swinging for the damn fences!!! Time to blow it up. We’ve had this squad since 17 its time
1. George Steinbrenner would be livid and heads would roll. He wanted to win. Hal is only interested in making money. As long as the fans fill the stadium, He will do nothing. Boone and Lawson should go. Maybe Cashman. Donaldson should be DFA'd or told to retire. He is worthless. This team needs to be shaken up.
Why not fire the manager The manager is the captain of the ship The captain must know whats going on That is what George Steinbrenner said in a interview
No inspiration, no heart and the manager is uninspiring. Time to get rid of Boone and they whole team wasn't hitting when Judge was healthy. Right now this team is nothing.....
DF’A Aaron Hicks, and Judge being out of the lineup shows that the problem is the team. One guy isn’t making you bad, just like one guy can’t make you good.
The fact that there aren’t more people, players or front office personnel, literally fired and given their walking papers hardly ever is just mind boggling to me. The amount of money they get paid, they should be treated as any employee everywhere gets treated….if you don’t produce, then you lose your place in that organization. Period. If it comes down to having to still pay parts of guaranteed salary, per their contract, then going forward, rework the specifics and fine print spelling out certain clauses that would kick in, automatically, when certain thresholds are met. You stop producing, we have the right and absolute option to release you where they would be given X, y, & z as part of a possible severance arrangement or something similar. That these players, especially, with the kind of money they earn, aren’t tossed on their asses more often is astounding. It would certainly set the tone
Donaldson should have been taken out of the game on Sunday Night BASEBALL. He hit a ground ball wide of 1ST with a man on 3rd and 2 outs and he did not run hard enough to 1ST. He needed to be pulled in that spot plus the pick off at 1ST.
Michael Kay without a shadow doubt no excuse Stanton,Rizzo,LaMehieu and Donaldson not hitting it’s unacceptable!I put Rizzo on the injured list now call up Andres Chaparro
Why is Tierney the only one in sports media who recognizes Cashman is the reason this team has one title in the last 20 years? He’s the constant it’s his show, drafting, scouting, player acquisitions and development etc. that’s all on Cashman. There’s no help coming on the farm, the players on the big league roster arent going to magically learn how to hit again and the payroll is sky high so there’s not even room to absorb other team’s high contracts in trades to plug holes. The team is a mess and that’s on Brian Cashman, he built this and his reckoning has been a long time coming…. yet somehow he got a four year extension. Unreal.
Cashman is not the sole reason. It comes from the owner. Every single move. From who is sent up and down, to the lineup. He micromanages the team and no one knows it.
Ive heard this defense of Cashman for a decade now. Even if that were true there is nothing on Cashman’s resume that would lead me to believe if he was left unfettered the results would be any better. Hal cuts the checks (or doesn’t) Cashman and his analytics nerds run the day to day operations. For at least the last ten years this has been the case. You could sell me on George meddling heavily with Brian’s plans before his health started to decline, but not so much Hal. Furthermore and this is my biggest criticism it’s not Hal’s fault the drafting, scouting and player development have been a disaster for years and years now. What “stars” have the yankees produced internally in the last decade aside from Judge? …Severino? Who’s always hurt or melting down in a big spot? Some middle relievers? Where are the hitters? How many problems alone could be solved with this team if with the Yankees tremendous bankroll they actually found cost controlled players internally to promote and use as high end trade chips? How many of Cashman’s bonehead trades could be avoided if the team had a pipeline of talent they could rely on from within to fill positions on the team? If they werent desparately trying to throw money at problems every free agency? With the money the Yankees make year to year that scouting, drafting and player development is even an issue is mind boggling. Rays dont have problems with their farm, Dodgers don’t, this ineptitude is 100% on Cashman. All the other problems on this team from the idiotic free agent signings to the questionable trades is down stream of this issue.
I feel sorry for Michael Kay. He eats his own BS every day, every year. Is there an unbiased New York sports media that isn't delusional about the Yankees' prospects at the beginning of the year.
I think Michael Kay's glory days are over, I remember listening to his reason when I was young from 2000-2009 and it seems like he's grasping for attention more so than covering logical unbiased baseball (I mean he's literally owned by YES so I don't expect him to be hyper critical) but I agree. This offseason it'll be "well It's a different ball club" and "Let's let the record do the talking" or "last year we didn't have rodon and judge the whole season, lets give them a chance".
Big G is a specimen of a human being. Why can't he be a big boy and play the field without getting hurt? The guy is chisled. Yet he farts and pulls a glute! It makes no sense.
That is why many have said how steinvalent really doesn't care. His fanboy who's on the yes man network. I said multiple times. This guy is a business man. All he wants his suckers to keep giving him his money. Letting exactly how he and this front office has treated the hard working paying fan. And then you have a** clowns like michael k. And the show that he's on with the other guy who looks like a condom. And his other friend who looks like a toad. Telling generational yankee fans that their phantom means nothing. He's lucky this isn't back on the days. He would have gotten sweet chin music.. I hate to put paula meal in the same basket but he is. Is him in michael k or a bunch of yes men working for the yes men network. Whenever I hear them and never feel like. I actually learned something about the game that I didn't know. It seems all scripted and platitudes.
Exactly! Not only did he acquire injury prone players over and over again. He wouldn’t even consider trading any minor leaguers for PROVEN major league talent. Now some (not all) of the young players have been exposed as inconsistent and now you can’t get a bag of balls for them in a trade!! Good job Hal/ Cashman!!
On Days Off, Old Man Steinbrenner used to have them work fundamentals. The only way to get these guys to get hitting is extended practicing . So much, they hit on repetitive constructive hitting techniques rather than self-doubt and fear. Added pressure is different than added practice This has never happened in my recollection since 1972. Players should be hired on the assessment that they can perform under pressure. Rizzo was with the Cubs when they won the World Series and did quite well. Maybe getting them loose and working extra practice sessions working would help.
One player should NEVER be that important to the point that they can’t compete without him. If that’s the case what does that say about the rest of the team?? If this continues the Yankees will be In last place. How the mighty have fallen.
It is possible that Hicks couldn’t handle the pressure of playing in NY. For example, Gallo still not great but better than with the Yankees and sonny gray too.
So true. Kay won't address it, he'll only say it's not gonna happen instead of calling it out. The way this team is now is something that is years in the making. Let's keep getting injured guys and old guys and burn out the minors because we're desperate and we rush people up to the bigs. All desperation moves and analytics garbage.
@@MattMichaelVO 100% and there is no trade or signing that can fix this team and no reinforcements on the way. I will even go ahead and assume Dominguez is as overhyped as Volpe was. I had cut valve a few months ago and was forced to order the YES network separate. I just cancelled after realizing half the games are on Amazon, Apple, Peacock, and some other random streaming services. Not only do they stink but they are fucking their fans at every turn. I’m done
@@Grande79 All kinds of different streams. Money, money, money. Ironically, it's in the name; cash man. Just a kooky theory but it almost feels like they intentionally look for injured guys or guys that will get injured so they can blame the bad performance on injuries. And then when guys leave and play well for other teams - the excuse is; Oh they just couldn't handle the pinstripes. Not bad management, coaching and ridiculous analytics. And Hal will say, "It's the players that have to make a difference." without any responsibility on Cashman. The players have to be sick of it and it's showing. They keep putting those mantras out there and then brag about past players and the stadium just fills up every year.
Bringing up Stanton “plays well in the playoffs but not well enough to make the World Series” is a wildly stupid statement to make when he just ranted about how missing judge shouldn’t cause the team to fall apart lmao Stanton is the only one hitting most postseasons and the rest of the team is asleep and not caring
You talk about one though four in batting order not hitting, five though nine is invisible, just about automatic outs, real hard to watch. There’s no way this team can win a championship, they need change and soon. How about the guy who put this together
They were a 3rd place team when Judge went out, but they had also cut the Tampa lead to 5 gms. Now they're 10.5 gms back... To tell the truth, I haven't watched them lately, it's too embarrassing.
There are many issues with this organization starting with: player scouting, player development, roster composition, team philosophies, team management, player accountability etc. there’s a reason why the Orioles, tampabay and Houston are way better at this point than the Yankees. This will never change the Yankees will continue to get older plus become less competitive
Thank you. I was starting to think that there were no real baseball fans out there. That could actually see what's going on. Mostly these new age fans just see what they're told what a** clowns. On the yes man network tell them. The biggest two a** clowns I hate to say it is michael kay and paul oneill. I mean I love him as a player but I didn't know he was awokey.
They literally refuse _refuse_ to put together a god damned streak. It's always win two lose one. - win one, lose one. This year they had had one five game streak and two four game streaks. After that it's been two of less every other game. It's infuriating. They can score 30 runs in three games then just ONE the following day? Are you kidding me?
Boone's lineups suck. No consistency. How many times do we have to see a hot hitter benched the following day for a scheduled day off? Stanton hitting in front of Torres and behind Bauer's? Totally f'ed up logic.
@@asmrdesigned Changing the lineup is infuriating. And when I brought it up last year, all the Yankee fans said "FIRST PLACE BRO. WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE." Yeah. Okay and what happens if the team slumps? Well. They did. They had a historic start and then went cold for weeks. I mean I can just imagine if Boone was managing the 2009 team, at some point Jeter would be batting 6th or Matsui batting lead off. It's ridiculous. Guys need a routine. They need to know where they're hitting and where they're playing. This weird idea that everyone on the Yankees should be a utility player is annoying. Pick a lineup and stick with it. For decades we _never_ did this in baseball and all these "analysts" are blinded by their arrogance because they finally "discovered" something something math something math. We have more information than ever before. We have more analytics. We have better information and nutrition than ever before. And yet with all that hot air, the New York Yankees didn't touch a World Series, let alone win, for an entire decade for the first time in a hundred something years AND have been plagued with more trips to the DL than you can fathom.
It really baffles me the current mindset of this organization to build a winning team. To be locking up all these players long-term on contracts that will just cripple this team going forward. It's giving me shades of the bad years of George's ownership in that early-2000's era where they just kept on signing aging All-Stars to buy their way to a ring, none of whom did anything. Then in the few years before his passing were able to build up a decent enough farm to compliment the big moves that led to the 2009 championship. Signing CC, Burnett and Teixeira helped sure but so did drafting and developing Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes, Joba and Brett Gardner and let's not forget acquiring Swish and still having the Core 4, Matsui and A-Rod. Now it seems they wanna shy away from the farm and keep trying to trade for other teams star players again, lock them up long-term while they empty their farm for these guys in the process. All the while the players they do keep in the farm, don't end up producing. The fact that Judge was the only one to make it from the previous class is very troubling. From what was supposed to be a new core of him, Sanchez, Andujar, Bird, Frazier, and all of those guys are gone. With all the resources this franchise has they can't get the proper player development personnel to put this team on the same level as teams like the Dodgers, Astros and Braves with all the players that came up through those respective teams systems and whatnot? Thats mind-boggling to me
Also the problem is Cashman holds on to these players to long in the minors saying we can't trade them but yet won't bring them up to give them a chance. Most of the time they just burn out in the minors. Also Don is right Cashman refuses to admit when it was a mistake and he holds onto guys way to long instead of trying to move them.
It seems as though they are pressing at the plate ,swinging at pitches out of the strike zone, not going deep enough in the count and being patient ,to put pressure on the pitcher.
Kay will never admit the obvious. If you continuously choose the groceries in this case 300 million worth and they continuously come up short I’m not sure when he feels Cash needs to be held accountable
Stanton deal was unfortunate. It’s hard to say no to a reigning mvp. But at the time, cooler heads pointed out that it wasn’t a good fit. The Yankees fo probably knew that too but figured if they’d get a WS out of it, it would be worth it. After it was obvious that they wouldn’t win the WS with this group, they should have bowed out and broke the team into a million pieces. They should have rebuilt after 2019.
The Yankees are too protective of their players, no matter how poorly they perform. Maybe they should be publicly shamed by the organization. Instead, all you get is "we have to do better." Or, "we need to get going." Or "this is unacceptable." Yet, nothing changes. It's just the same old pablum. Somehow, someone has to light a fire under this team because whatever they're doing now just isn't working. And they need to stop calling themselves "a championship caliber team." They are anything but that.
