Happy Columbus Day, leftists!
It must be nice to sit in the freest, most prosperous, most charitable country in the history of the world and, from a position of totally unmerited luxury, slander the man who made it all possible.

Only reason why they despise this country and Christopher Columbus is because Columbus was a European and so were the Founders of European descent. Slavery is still going on today in North Africa between the Middle East. These morons don't know anything about history. They're so incredibly uninformed! I love the unapologetic part. When someone is that scathing about the great figures in history that created the world as we know it-they deserve an earful. As Michael said, it’s truly myopic to not appreciate our current state we’re it not for such heroes. How fking brave was Colombus? There’s no comparison today to what he did. Sailing into the unknown, where the vast majority of people thought they’d sail off the cliffs at the edge of the earth. Where any number of sea monsters and creatures and savage natives awaited them assuming they even found these new lands. And that doesn’t even mention the real world problems they faced with 13th century tech and medicine. Flying off to Mars isn’t half as terrifying as what Colombia did during his time.

I decided to actually fact check a few things and go against what they tried to get me to think. What schools and parents and society’s general should teach young people is critical thinking, researching, and forming an opinion based on facts. Not which political side is best. I am at the University now, and let me tell you one thing: I’m getting that degree, but I’ll be damned if I let anyone decide for me what I can say or think! Education does not have to mean school. Some of the stupidest people I've ever met were very well "educated" in school but not life. What they teach in school you can read in books available to the public. The idea of an educated person has been hijacked by the colleges as a means to push people into going to school so they can get rich and indoctrinate but an educated person is actually just someone who learns about things in any setting.

Perhaps you've never read the first hand account by Bartolome de la Casa? Quotes from his 1542 account reads: 1. "They took the little souls by the heels, ramping them from the mother's dugges, and crushed their heads against the cliffs." 2. "Other infants they put to the sword along with their mothers and anyone else who happened to be nearby. They made some low wide gallows on which the hanged victim's feet almost touched the ground, stringing up their victims in lots of thirteen, in memory of Our Redeemer and His twelve Apostles, then set burning wood at their feet and thus burned them alive." 3. "One time I saw four or five of the principal lords roasted and broiled upon these gridirons. Also I think that there were two or three of these gridirons, garnished with the like furniture, and for that they cried out pitifully, which thing troubled the Captain that he could not then sleep: he commanded to strangle them." 4. "After that we were come into the province, one and twenty lords and caciques came to receive us, whom the Captain apprehended incontinently, breaking the safe conduct which I had made them, and intending the day next following to burn them alive, saying that it was expedient so to do, for that otherwise those lords one day, would do us a shrewd turn. " 5. "In three or four months (myself being present) there died more then six thousand children, by reason that they had plucked away from them their fathers and mothers, which they sent into the mines."

Silmarrillion123 well bless your heart. It’s a shame you don’t have time to look into contemporary sources that spoke of him. The natives that he first met were friendly with him, and even looked to the Spanish to protect them from the cannibal tribe that had been terrorizing them. The Caribs (as the Spanish called them) even murdered 39 of Columbus’ men that he left there after his first voyage. Columbus was kind and generous. You have an interesting view on who is going to hell by the way. It seems that if you are so concerned with biblical principles, you would know that there is a passage reminding you to ignore the mote in your brothers eye, because you have a beam in your own that needs to be addressed. Good luck with that

I don't know what came before this poor soul's humiliation but if you read virtually any historical record of Columbus's voyage it states that he first landed in the Bahamas then Cuba and Haiti. He was looking for China but never found it. He also never placed a foot on North America. Lief Eriksson was the first westerner to do that in Greenland and Canada many years before Columbus set sail. This is not to say that Columbus didn't achieve greatness by sailing across the Atlantic in wimpy wooden ships, but he didn't discover America and he got himself stripped of his rank and thrown into a Spanish jail for some of his less than exemplary actions.

I know a teacher. She had to ask permission long before hand to put up ANY decorations during Christmas, in her own classroom. She got the go ahead as long as she was inclusive.but When Thanksgiving roled around she put up basic Thanksgiving cutout decorations. A turkey, and some native Americans and pilgrims holding hands. The next day she was confronted by the principal about maybe taking down her decorations do to them being offensive. The principal said they got a complaint that said someone didn't like the "glorification of murder by the pilgrims to the Indians." The teacher said she wouldn't take her decorations down 3days before Thanksgiving, and since when are we bowing down to people trying to molest history. Bravo👏

A brief web search revealed this, many more like it: Like many European explorers, Christopher Columbus encountered indigenous people throughout his voyages. There are three main sources of controversy involving his interactions with the indigenous people he labeled “Indians”: the use of violence and slavery, the forced conversion of native peoples to Christianity and the introduction of a host of new diseases that would have dramatic long-term effects on native people in the Americas. In an era in which the international slave trade was starting to grow, Columbus and his men enslaved many native inhabitants of the West Indies and subjected them to extreme violence and brutality. On his famous first voyage in 1492, Columbus landed on an unknown Caribbean island after an arduous three-month journey.

Christopher Columbus was taller than average and as a young man had reddish hair, born in Genoa Italy, he likely had a fair amount of Viking in his bloodline. His name/influence is everywhere, Columbia is how we use it most frequently, the name of the royal Kings College on Manhattan island was changed to Columbia College (later University) in his honor, Washington DC, the District of Columbia, named for two men without which the USA would not exist, even CBS TV Columbia Broadcasting Station, Columbia Picture studios and multiple cities, schools etc. Amerio was the first name of the map maker who was commissioned to servey and draw the coast and islands of the New World so the continents are named America, but they might well have been named North and South Columbia. He was, and should be considered, a good man, a hero.

Columbus and the crews that sailed his ships were like the brave astronauts of today. They courageously ventured into the unknown. Experts of their time told them that they could sail right off the edge of the world and fall into nothingness. Other experts warned them that giant sea creatures would attack their ships and destroy them in the most horrendous manner. Sailors didn't learn to swim because it was thought better to drown immediately than to be left to float for days without food and water before dying. The idiot professors in our colleges have taught the oppressed/oppressor viewpoint of history which is biased and limited in scope and has kept people angry with one another far too long. Those professors ought to be drug out of their classrooms and given a broom and then set to sweeping our streets where they would be much more useful and make a contribution to the good for once.
