It's very sad but I carn't understand why an intelligent doctor would even attempt walking all that way in such heat

The strange thing here is that he left the beach because he wasn't feeling well and then chose the most difficult route in boiling weather..He wasn't thinking straight, i think that's obvious.

I'm still trying to get my head round this intelligent man walking at this time of day.

The unusual part for me is that he was completeley unprepared in terms of no phone (gps) or map, no discussion with locals as to route and no water (why not pick some up at Pedi). I run ultramarathons and long fell runs and always pre-plan a route in unfamiliar territory, especially in high heat. Not sure why you'd take high risks and stray from the path up the mountain route and not sure why he wouldn;t be acutely aware of the risks as a doctor. All seems a very strange quirk of fate

RIP Dr Mosley your advice and care will be missed. Many Australians fell in love with your charming personality and caring attitude and you helped many across the world.

How on earth didn't they find him sooner? Surely a flyby with a drone or helicopter would have found him day one..

Why not just wait for the autopsy results?

News here showed he took a wrong turn and got lost. His accommodation was in the complete opposite direction. He had 'trekked' quite a distance in rugged terrain to get to where he was found. We should not judge anyone. I have been in similar situations thinking i will be OK and was just lucky i was. I pray he didn't suffer🙏. A light has gone out in the world losing this wonderful man😢 ❤❤🇦🇺🐨

Maybe the reason he was found close is he was still alive when they were searching so he may of not been there when they looked.

Was he wanting to die? Why did he not take water? Phone? Need to investigate

He did have Type 2 diabetis didn't he ( same as me despite not being fat ) . Although he had 'reversed' it he may have suffered hypoglycemia ( low blood sugar ) as a result of the heat . Its happened to me in the middle of a supermarket.

Sorry but a body in 40°c heat for 5 days would smell grim. Metres away from a bar? Sniffer dogs used? .. No im not buying it!

Why do people keep saying 5 days??? He went missing on Wednesday afternoon and was found on Sunday, that’s not even four whole days.

A warning to all about excessive heat and water and not venturing out of too hot etc but still weird how no one saw him for 5 days

So much speculation here, conspiracy theories and a lot of blame being apportioned. Hindsight is a wonderful thing where accidents are concerned. It's likely his last thoughts would have contained more than one "If only..". Many of us will have had lucky escapes in life that we're not even aware of. The irony is he was very fit and worked hard to improve life longevity. Poor chap..and his family.

We were in Japan in August 2023. Daily temperatures were hovering around 37 degrees. At every tourist spot, there were notices, announcements and staff in attendance warning tourists of the danger of the heat, especially for the elderly and children. Weren't such measures in place in Greece, especially when the temperature was around 45 degrees?

That island is NOT idilic. What on earth is the presenter talking about. To me its a hell hole.

I don’t want to be an insensitive prick but he is a medical doctor and knows better than anyone else that how dangerous is heat stroke. I was in Turkey last week and temp. Was 45C at noon, I wouldn’t dare to leave house if they pay me. I had a heat stroke couple of times when I was younger and I know how bad it is especially if you are not native of the hot climates.

Doctor husband "im not feeling too good. I need to lie down." Pharma doctor wife "why dont you walk alone in 40 degree heat with no mobile phone amongst the rocks for a few miles?"... I dont buy that story, sorry

The elephant in the room is ageing. There's a dangerous myth that eating well, keeping slim and exercise will stave off the aging process and while these things undoubtedly help us stay well for longer, there are physiological and cognitive changes associated with old age that are unavoidable, such as the fact that we become more likely to get dehydrated than when young and are less likely to register thirst. Growing old is not frightening, it's not a disease, it's natural and understanding what that means rather than burying our head in the sand is much more helpful than kidding ourselves we can have the physiology of a 30 year old when we're 60+. Reluctantly, I have to say, Dr Mosley played a part in creating this illusion. However, he was an intelligent, likeable and kind human being who helped many and my heart sincerely goes out to his friends and loved ones.

God bless his soul. So sad to hear this. I read his column every week. May his wife and children find comfort in and peace. Amen

There is a CCTV video taken by the Agia Marina bar that shows Dr. Mosley coming down past the fence and then appearing to stumble, disappearing behind the wall and not getting up. They had this video all along but did not examine it as they did not think it relevant. Wait for the autopsy before second guessing.

I find it difficult to understand why he would walk about on rough rocky ground in that heat particularly as he was in his late 60s and was he still trying to hold an umbrella up to shade himself ? That surely would be impossible on a hike of that nature

Why not let's talk about what he said about anyone who wasn't vaxxed? Let's talk about how he turned on his own friends because they wouldn't get the jab.

He didn't feel well, he shouldn't have walked on his own, he could have had a stroke coming on..

Because a person will die in a heatwave with no proper hydration does not make the cause of death "natural". Let us hear the science. What was his hydration index, and sun exposure level.

If he had had some water, energy food and a whistle with him as we would have in the hills, he may have been rescued. Always go well prepared, that’s not a stroll especially in that heat!.

It's odd how they saw a black shape from the sea, as Michael was found by the low wall which would have hidden him? It's so sad, if the fence wasn't there he could have made it to the bar, or people there could have seen him coming down the hill

Well we all know that he was a clever man and very well informed so this should be a cautionary tale for everyone. I pray for his immortal soul and that his family can find comfort in their grieve. RIP doctor

His rucksack was found further up the hill. Perhaps he ditched it in a last attempt to make his walk easier as it was getting nigh on impossible. He had kept his umbrella with him, so sheltering from the heat was a priority in those last steps. It’s just so sad as he almost made it to help and shelter

This is a classic case of a Dr not practicing what he preaches. Remember when the Uk had temperatures of 40 degrees? We were all told to stay in doors, as it was a danger to our health. He went out , with no phone, and no water.

The man who found him said that his left hand was on his stomach and his right hand was holding his backpack. Regardless, a great man who contributed so positively to society has been lost and a family suffer.

Something does not add up here....He was an extremely intelligent man, A doctor, a very sensible and logical man who had the foresight to take an umbrella with him to protect himself from the sun....So why the hell firstly put himself in a situation of peril like he has and the biggest question for me is, why take an umbrella for the sun but no water???...or a phone!! now I assume he had no water as most of the reports seem to be making a point of stating the almost 40 degree heat on the day to convey that as a factor

Never forget this is a man who swallowed tapeworm cysts, stuck a leech on his arm, and tried to infest himself with lice, in a BBC Four documentary. You have to say that this is someone who loved risk, either because he thought he was advancing Science, or because he like the fame it brought. Sooner or later his lack of clarity between proper Science and vanity would prove fatal.

Utterly mad to walk on a day when dire warnings were given about the heat that day. Nobody is invulnerable no matter how fit they think they are. He has just brought distress to family and others.

we had a memorial documentary on BBC1 last night in the UK...he was truly inspirational, and more than a little quirky in what he was willing to put his body through!, he was a fit and energetic man and I think he truly thought he could withstand a jaunt in 40 degrees!...I don't believe the 'wrong turn' theory, he was intelligent enough to see the water on his right side the whole time...he even waited for the bus back to his accommodation at one point. Sometimes distance seems shorter than it is. We've gone on long walks in Kefalonia but made sure we had adequate shade to dot in and out of. He will be so sorely missed, I followed his advice to the letter! xx

He could easily had an attack and fell over rocks and his hands on his chest may have been his last gesture before passing.
