So violent films are in no way influencing people. Advertising is in no way influencing people. There is no violence in society and multinational companies are going bankrupt through lack of product awareness and placement through millions spent placing advertising around these feature films.
It's a question of perception. Rambo was about a solider who served his country in Vietnam and came back suffering from PTSD. The movie created mental health awareness for soldiers suffering in silence after witnessing the horrors on the front line. In those days, it was a taboo subject.
Its clear as day that she says "I don't want to ban films like Rambo." and one a person later says "Banning of these films won't solve the problem with real violence." and she responds "Then what is?" as if to say that is her agenda all along. She has simplemindedly narrowed down and simplified all of societies problems to movies and television. Hypocrite.
Im with Mrs Whitehouse. If we only returned to the morals and stories in the bible that are so non violent there would be no more trouble. Stories like being flogged, nailed to a cross, ripping skin. Abraham being told to kill his son. The massacre of the infants. Etc. Etc. Etc. Lovely peaceful stories like those.
Apart from the mentally ill people in our society; I don't think it's the violent movies that's the problem, it's bad or lack of parenting, no disciple in schools and children without father figures. I always thought Marry was a busy body. Besides, there are violent stories in the bible.
A typical left wing point of view "All research and opinions are accurate 100% as long as they are the opinions and research that supports my stance." A physiologist came in politely and said based on his profession and professional opinion "No, there is no real connection." and Whitehouse pretty much says his opinion is not allowed to be considered professional or valid.
The guy banging on about advertising wants to remember that he wouldn't buy a tin of cat food if he didn't own a cat just because he saw an advert for it on TV would he? So he clearly isn't that influenced by it.
The thing about Whitehouse in hindsight that the self appointed crusader against good taste and decency who wanted to clean up television, said that her favorite TV series was, Jim'll Fix It. There's something amusingly ironic about that.
The likes of Whitehouse drew attention away from focusing on the real problems. The Video Nasty scare of the 80's? Pointless. Saying the film Crash needed to be addressed in 1996 at the election? Pointless.
Why are people clapping? It just shows that people will clap over anything just like the lemmings we are. We always see political shows where the same clueless people are clapping at both sides of the argument instead of actually listening to what is being said and forming their own opinion. These audience shows are proven to be absolutely pointless and just because people are clapping, it doesnt mean a valid point has been made, it just means some idiot started clapping that triggered everyone else to clap also.
So basically what your saying is that because she said people who owned horror films should be sent to jail means they should be sent to jail? And that censorship is acceptable? Please, she was just a bully who had to much influence. She can't even debate (she has a nerve to accuse him of interrupting her when she did it on other interviews)

If she was so concerned about video nasties mayby as a christain she should had focused on terrible parenting as WHAT PARENT allows their kids to watch this stuff? Whitehouse won in the end as regards the toning down of cinema. Look at any cinema listings of today, and violent films are seldom shown. The violent films are rarely produced now anyway, as the money is in animated/family films. Where Whitehouse would now turn in her grave is with the internet. Absolutely, anything can be found online with the absolute minimum of censorship. You have to admire winner, the life he led and the cult films he made. Id love to know what happened to the rest of the audience and to see how kind the past forty years has been for them?
How could Michael Winner support Margaret Thatcher? , according to his Wikipedia page. The same Thatcher who Mary Whitehouse supported to ban or cut films.
What I am saying is what you watch affects what you are and do and how you see the world , we live in a very sex saturated and violent world now where even marriage is being redefined , and people cannot think critically anymore , things get worse not better .

I personally never actually watched Rambo though I did see bits of the third one, well because, it was the third one. The one in which he goes full auto. That's because I tried to watch 1 & 2 % guess what? It made no sense. No adequate storyline, no flow, no nothing, yet a lot of my peers when I was a kid loved it to death.
