It's our first Morning as a collective at deer camp and we're ready to hunt. We got a beautiful sun rise and had high hopes for the day. Ryan, Eric, Steve, Gary and I were all up early and ready to hunt. We just received the fresh snow we needed and were ready for all of the big upper peninsula bucks to show up. Well in typical upper peninsula fashion they didn't show up. But we're not going to waist our upper peninsula experience and just sit around and mope so we venture out and look for some deer sign. After a fresh walk in the UP woods. I set out to find some deer sign and hopefully catch a deer on the way to the bait. I climbed a tree a couple hundred yards away from the bait pile out of range of any other hunters in our camp. I use the trophyline wingman platform and some aiders as steps then i use my petzl gri gir + with a rope tether to keep me connect to the tree. This allows me to not have to carry much and be able to get as high as I want up in the tree. I ended up seeing 3 does on the way to the bait kind of in the same direction I thought I would see them. This has got my hopes up to see a good buck before our time here at our upper peninsula deer camp.
Being able to come to this upper peninsula deer camp makes a bad year good. The fresh air in the upper peninsula and silence makes everything worth it when you're working a lot of hours in the city and rat race.
