It's been an exciting deer camp. We've all been seeing deer, as well as a lot of other wildlife. Rob saw some bobcats, Gary had a close call with a Pine Marten. As well I tracked down a camp local for one of the most exciting moments I've had at camp. Our upper peninsula deer camp has always been exciting because it's so secluded. We've had quite a bit of success of the last few years but ever since they logged the woods to the south of us the deer don't seem to be hanging out as much on our property.
We are trying to adjust to this big change by going out walking the neighboring property and looking for deer sign with the hopes we're going to find a big upper peninsula michigan buck.
I started the morning hunting my brother's deer blind, The blind hasn't been the most productive deer blind that we have. In fact it's the worst deer blind that we have. After getting skunked in the cedar shack blind (no surprise) I was planning on going to check a moultrie trail camera we had set up around the corner from the blind. On the way I noticed these crazy little tiny bugs all over the snow. While I was filming them with my phone I had a notification from my creative xp cellular trail camera alert my phone. When I checked my phone I had a big surprise. I saw the biggest rack I've ever seen in real life and I decided to track this beast down.
I walked nearly a mile before I caught up with him and I can say it was worth the trek. After that was over I went back to the camp where Eric was splitting wood and everyone was getting together to talk about their morning. After that I decided to sit in the china hutch blind. After the long walk I didn't really have time to go to a different location and hunt. In the evening upper peninsula deer camp I saw 3 does, probably the 3 does I saw the night before.
