What is this guy talking about. Washington is one of the most mistake prone teams in the country. 61st in turnovers and 2nd to last in penalties. Michigan is the team that doesn't make mistakes.

In the end, the beautiful thing is that the mighty SEC got beat and can't claim to have the best team this year.

Picking this game is about as hard as it was picking the Ravens at 49ers. On strength on strength competition it is difficult to use stats and intangibles to predict the outcome.

McCarthy played and BEAT the number 1,2, 6, and 18 defenses in the country. Two of which he was injured with a bum ankle which crushes his game. McCarthy should be fine against this defense. Two great teams but when Washington has the ball it’s strength in strength - Michigan is the number 1 defense and number 3 pass defense. When Michigan has the ball Washington is number 41. IF Michigan is able to score decently easy and can stop Penix a couple times AND they don’t have turnovers or muffed punt returns they should win. But as always, it’s college ball and anything can happen!

Come on that wasn’t a coaching mistake last game!!! Johnson got hurt on that carry and caused the clock to stop. If he doesn’t get hurt, Texas has like 20 seconds left and wouldn’t have been close at the end!

Injury to Johnson was almost a killer to Washington. That rule needs to change. If there is an offensive player injured and the defense has no timeouts they should be able to run the clock down without the refs stopping it. Would be a horrible for that injured kid the rest of his life.

Washington run D success rate is the most important stat because it guarantees vs Michigan anyway that Penix will be on the sideline. Michigan wont punt more that 1x in this game which means Wash O will need to be almost perfect. Tough ask vs Michigan D.

I recall when Payton Manning’s Denver played against the defensive minded Seahawks in the Super bowl. Denver with its 400 yard a game passing attack was in fact favored to win but the game just didn’t work out that well against the Seahawks then. I think there is something special about Michigan’s defense despite the fact that it makes the game much slower and maybe not as exciting. I have Michigan but as some say, if Penix can surprise Michigan’s defense with a couple of 50 yard plays in the first quarter and they force a fumble or INT it could be a long game for Michigan like last year against TCU.

Guys, the way this stuff works is the team that wins the natty has a household name coach, highly rated recruits, and is the most dominant team all season regardless of strength of schedule. Michigan has all 3 in their favor while Washington has none so by college football law and rule Michigan wins this game guaranteed. Maybe just maybe it could by miracle be close, but that's it. Washington is definitely losing and most likely by blowout.

Here’s some food for thought. Michigan only saw two top 50 passing offenses this year. Maryland in Ohio State. Maryland was #21 and Ohio State was #30. Both of those games came down to the final minutes and in both games, Michigan won the turnover battle. If Penix truly is better than the Maryland's Tagovailoa and Ohio State McCord, he doesn’t get sacked and he doesn’t turn the ball over… we have a ball game. Washington faced 4 the top 10 passing offenses in the country. The two conferences are very different and Michigan’s passing defense might be put to the test like it hasn’t been all year. Same thing with Texas they only faced 2 decent passing teams, Oklahoma, and TCU and they lost one of those two games and the other they won by three points. Penix put up 430 and 90% of those yards were in the 1st 3 quarters. Tagovailoa had 247 and McCord had 271. That’s an eerily similar situation Michigan is facing. Only 2 games against QB's that were in the top 50. So the Big Ten can play defense, but it’s one of those things, can they really play defense? Or is it simply because the offenses like Iowa’s are the worst in the history of college? No way to know for sure until we get them on the field, but so many of these stats are hard to figure because the conference is just don’t play each other.

Michigan has been prepping to beat the dawgs this year. We just thought we were going to get the varsity Dawgs not the JV Dawgs!

Food for Thought. Do you think the Big 10’s defenses (and Michigan’s) look good on paper, because their stats are based on playing other Big 10 teams? The PAC 12 only played 3 games against the Big 10 this year and won all 3. Passing yards in those 3 games were way over the season averages for those Big 10 teams. Maybe the Big 10 just doesn’t have any good passing offenses…. And maybe the PAC 12’s passing offenses are just that good… Washington 536 vs Michigan State season average 237 Colorado 396 vs Nebraska season average 150 Washington State 250 vs Wisconsin season average 208 Another fun fact. Washington had 5 teams that averaged over 300 yards passing per game. The Big 10 had none. Maryland at 278 was the most. The PAC 12 had only 1 team average less than 200. Utah. The Big 10 had 5, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, Nebraska and Iowa. The media narrative is it’s because of the great Big 10 pass defenses like Michigan, but the stats don’t back that up. Maybe just maybe The PAC 12 passing offenses are much better than people think.

Food for thought. 14 Big 10 teams played 182 regular season games. Only 3 were against the PAC 12. All 3 losses to Washington, Washington State and Colorado. I’m not saying that somehow means the PAC 12 is better than the Big 10. Far too small a sample size. However it does beg the question, “Would Michigan or Washington’s stats be the same if they played in the same conference or played the same opponents?”. No way to know, so when someone says one team can’t do XYZ remember these stats are against completely different opponents. Should be interesting on Monday.

I was on the fence on picking a winner but after seeing this video I know Washington will win convincingly.

It will be a replay of the 1991 college championship game between UW vs Michigan. And UW will win! Why? The Huskies are fulfilling their own prophecy of them returning to the CFP title game with a new flawless record of 14-0(as compared to the 12-0 undefeated 🏆 record from the 1991 team)! You guys don’t seem to understand how UW allows rushing. You must have elite WR’s in order to make them play zone. They practice against NFL wr’s every day, so UM’s will be easier to defend and can leave 6 in the box. Just watch. We didn’t expect DeWhore to be a piece of trash and decide to stop coaching and preparing the team. Clearly, because he interviewed during that week, the game meant nothing. That said, after the first two drives, UM got like 70 yards the rest of the game.

Enough of the Big 10 defensive superiority narrative. Penn State was the #1 ranked defense until they got smoked by Mississippi in their bowl game. Ohio State was ranked #3. No one in the comments are going to win their arguments. Stats are for losers. It’s whichever team is more prepared on Monday night and has their mentals in order. Not which has the better Def or Off, or run game or who beat who. All things are actually very equal. A stat line doesn’t tell you anything in a game like this and it doesn’t guarantee certain victory for one team over the other. Neither got here by losing games. It’s really whichever team truly has championship players, that can elevate their play to the next level, on the biggest stage of the most important game of their collegiate career.
