Welcome to my latest project update. The main goal of this video is to highlight some issues with this mod.
Project Background:
I've been fascinated by SM64 Coop DX and decided to practice modding with a Mickey Mouse model from a Mario 64 ROM hack (originally made by UltraBart14) to bring it to life as a Character Select mod. Initially, I planned to request someone to make it, but I challenged myself to work on it while waiting. The current goal is to create a fully functional character with custom features.
Features Achieved So Far:
- Custom in-game lives icon
- Customizable body parts color palettes from player settings
- Color palette preset for Character Select Menu (toggle with the Y button on the controller)
- Description and name for Character Select Menu
- No torso tilting
Challenges Encountered:
- Model Extraction: Initially, I faced issues extracting the model and sound effects from the ROM hack and other ROM hack variations (these had the custom lives icon and custom voice clips) with RMC2 and RM2ExCoop 0.3 with not much luck. However, I learned that the hack was made with SM64 Editor thanks to an error message from SM64 ROM Manager. After some research in Discord communities, I found a Saturn model port.
- Missing Features: The Saturn model lacked support for vanish, metal, and wing cap effects. Additionally, it didn't have certain hand animations/poses like the peace sign.
- Script Integration: Understanding how to integrate the vanish and metal cap scripts into the model.inc.c file was a learning curve. I found some GFX lines related to these effects and attempted to add them manually, but with no results, probably due to the script following specific behaviors in a certain order that I couldn't understand.
Current Status:
While I've made significant progress, the mod isn't fully complete yet. The main hurdles are the missing cap effects and hand animations. I'm actively seeking advice and support from the community to resolve these issues. Also, the initial GameBanana request post now has a "brief" update where I shared some of my progress and possibly a resource to find help in exchange for the platform's points. I've also tried using RM2C and RM2ExCoop with SM64 Editor settings, but still, the game crashes when trying to load the DynOS files (I assume there's some tweaking to do that I'm not sure how to start).
Next Steps:
- Continue tweaking the main script to add voice clips (I love how the beta Mario voice clips fit on the mouse).
- Seek further guidance on adding the missing features.
- Attempt to extract the ROM hack model with other methods.

Notes:
Saturn is software used for machinima videos with the Mario engine. Many model ports, including the Mickey model, were initially created for this platform but lacked some features.
Any insight into updating these models to include new features would be incredibly valuable.
