Loved hearing your answers to this. I think Viv is a great choice, especially considering you haven’t read L&L yet haha. Good taste right there! Great thumbnail by the way!
Awesome Tag video Baron!! Yes, man I’ve had Cormac McCarthy’s books preordered since the moment they were available haha can’t wait for those! You have me soooo hyped for Lonesome Dove and Streets of Laredo…those are way overdue for me and I can’t wait to get to them!
Hi Baron! Chas sent me and I'm glad I come on over! Sorry, Malazan was a dud. I'm still on the fence for the same reasons. But I will give it a try at some point. I will be reading East of Eden this year as well! It will be my first Steinback. I love Hobb!! Hopefully, I can finish ROTE this year! Great reading year so far! Glad I found your channel.
Viv in Legends and Lattes is wonderful! That book is such a delightful, fun, palate cleanser. Completely understandable DNF-ing Malazan, especially after giving it an honest try through the third book and still not feeling it. So grateful for your endorsement of Boy's Life-it was so well written and worth the time! You, Alex, and RJ have me so eager to read The Three Body Problem at some point, and I do plan on starting Bakker as well!
My wife has purchased me legends and lattes after seeing this video lol. I will be getting to know Vic quite soon! Oh my I cannot wait to hear what you think of the 3BP trilogy. You have such a wonderfully intelligent way of looking at books. Your insight would be fantastic!
Awesome job on this tag Baron. That thumbnail! 🤣🤣 I love it! I’m with you on Malazan. MOI will be my stopping point too, for now. In fact I’m almost wondering if I’ll end up DNFing it lol.
Can't wait to start Lonesome Dove once I knock some of my other historical fiction out of the way. And I should check out some of the classics as well, especially if they can fall into historical fiction. Boy's Life is also another I need to pick up.
Oh damnLorena really a new fictional character?? That surprises me and it doesn’t. McMurtry is so good at character.. and even what we got in lonesome dove was good. another dope video 💯
Thanks Nate! Since you have read LD I highly encourage you to read Streets of Laredo. It starts slow but hot damn the last half is straight fire. It’s waaaay darker in tone too
Great answers Baron! Loving the Mccarthy hype, I need to read more of his stuff. Can't wait to start Malazan next year so we have more things to disagree about hahaha.
Awesome man. As the resident Hobb megafan, I’m not sure I would call her books “fun” or “cozy”, but I suppose compared to Bakker maybe they are. I’ve seen her stuff called “grim sad” which I find both accurate and hilarious. Some awesome reads so far for you this year! Have a great second half my friend!
Oh Grim Sad is amazing! I actually agree with you sometimes shit just comes out of my mouth and I’m too lazy to edit 🤣 BTW I plan to put a serious dent in ROTE in Q4. Majorly looking forward to it
Glad you enjoyed East of Eden. Some of the earliest Steinbeck is problematic. His story collection The Long Valley has echoes of his mature work and is a good read. His collection To A God Unknown is a good idea but with disappointing execution. Your results may differ. I just finished Assassins' Apprentice by Robin Hobb and enjoyed it. Later this week I'm making a bookstore run and intend to pick up volumes 2 and 3 in the Farseer Trilogy. Happy reading.
Glad you had such an enjoyable first half of the year. East of Eden is fantastic and Steinbeck is an excellent pick for new favourite author. If you’re reading Fairy Tale on release day, hopefully we can read together! 🥰
I'm with you on Malazan. After hearing all the hype about MoI, I was underwhelmed. There was some great stuff in it, but three stars at the end of the day and left me ambivalent about continuing. My book of the year so far is either Piranesi or Assassin's Apprentice.
I guess Oathbringer (Stormlight Archive # 3) counts as a disappointment considering I DNF'd it. I also DNF'd Elantris and Final Empire but I didn't get very far in either. Whereas I was halfway through Oathbringer.
