I don't think I can think of enough superlatives to describe Midori Ito's skating. This short program is fabulous and the footwork sequence is one of the best I've seen-perfectly timed, fast and difficult.
She was not only one of the best in women´s competition in history, she was THE BEST, ever! Such ease in the jumps, incredible rotation, she was incredible! Which girl was able to show such jumps with such ease? Nobody! If figures hadn´t existed in the past, the rest wouldn´t have had any chance to beat her, I think she would have won nearly all competitions! Midori was a gift for us and for the ISU. No wonder that she had the nickname: Tsunami girl! One word: Legend!
Obsessed with this short program, probably one of my faves from her. The beauty of the opening jump at 0:40, then she cheers for herself after landing the combination, then that epic step sequence so full of energy, and then the entrance into the 2A was just from another planet. I love the joy and energy that she skated with at these olympics. I just wish they had eliminated compulsaries just a few years earlier, no doubt that she would have medaled here.
