I always thought he was really unique in how the other zords are really just armor for the dragon zord. With the others they're combining but here he just needs to suit up.
Red ranger what clothes do want? I want a unicorn boot and a yellow boot, and a elephant shirt with a hat and one fire bird skirt. Thanks for visiting my clothes shop!
Awesome!! I used to have these back in the day, but I think they were junked in the mid-2000s. I do however still have a few fragments from this, including the Red DragonZord's tail, the Red DragonZord Warrior Mode's staff and the Red Ranger figure that's supposed to be positioned on top of the head of the Red DragonZord. Sometime in the future I plan on getting another set of MMPR Season 2 Zords, as well as the Season 1 Zords. I never had the DinoZords, just the Thunderzords. Great review here! Happy 30th Anniversary to MMPR!! I just rewatched every single episode of Season 1 of MMPR for its 30th Anniversary! Yesterday (Thursday, May 23, 2024) marked the 30th Anniversary of the original airing of the Season 1 finale of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: "An Oyster Stew", which originally aired on May 23, 1994. The Season 2 premiere of MMPR was "The Mutiny: Part 1", which originally aired on July 21, 1994. The 30th Anniversary of that episode is on July 21, 2024. That's less than 2 months from now. I rewatch each episode on its 30th Anniversary, in a way that emulated the original TV broadcast. Thanks for the nostalgia!!
I managed to acquire a Thunder Megazord of my own after all these years, just a couple of days ago, during a trek through some vintage toy stores. I owned the Red Dragon as a kid, but could never find the other four on shelves here in Australia at the time. My Thunder Megazord is the second release, as the Lion and Firebird tails and the Thunder Saber aren't chromed. However, it did come with two sets of the five Ranger figurines (one lot was already stored in the Megazord's chest window), and one set of the five crystals assigned to each figurine.
This is the one that really got me interested in buying Megazords way back. The reason was that the other zords formed armor around the red warrior. The red warrior mode was really wearing the other zords since they were hollow and the firebird would wrap around the waist. That was so awesome!
The legacy version of this is awesome, but the red dragon has some wobbly legs issues when all combined. But, they have since fixed it. I just gotta try and find that version.
You know, I didn't realize it till now but the Red Dragonzord's warrior mode shares the same dragon head with horns folding back thing that Magiking/Mystic Megazord has.
Hey,spada, out of these zords, which one is your favorite one based on the animals that they are?Mine would be the red dragon because it's red,and it's a dragon.
i agree that this zord originally based on chinese warior. You can google a chinese warior character from Shaman King called bason. You will see some same characteristic. :D
The lion & the firebird are from the sentai version, are they? While the others are from power rangers release? It kinda obvious from the stickers & the lion zord head, which is green. I dont know if the previous owner changes some of the stickers, but they're essentially the same, so there's no problem there.
Why your lion is show accurate? Looks like the japanese lion. Did you customize it? Or did they release some as green and some as black? Even in the show when they use toy fottage the lion is black painted...
Got the first Megazord (still miraculosly with all its pieces) and the Ninja Megazord (missing one ape sword and the fist which never was in the box... still looking for them) with Titanos, Dragonzord and Falconzord, but these zords I completely missed. I may get the Legacy just for completion.
Comic convention. It's a kind of fair where to buy and sell new and old comics/games/toys. Usually it's there someone can find missing pieces or full toys without paying too much.
Looking at these now, it may be wrong, but I think these look way better than the Dino Zords, and the ninja zords really. The megazord mode is by far the best of MMPR. But I do prefer the Dragon to the Tiger.
+0zzyl0tys The legs have flip up zord builder parts so they should fit but youd still need the mastadon for arms not sure about scale iether as this megazord definetly was bigger.
***** except the mistic force megazord, and while officially iy doesnt have elbow articulation it can be mistransformed to allow them to bend a bit, and usually it has, leg, knee, a bit of feet, and arm articulation making it probably the most articulated super sentai mecha to date, not sure if it has head rotation, or outward arm movement, but compared to pretty much any other megazord it totally is a COMPLETE FIGURE
I liked Magiranger a lot for what they did by making the other four turn into a dragon for Magired to ride before turning into the full-on main mecha. It's a similar idea to what this set did and it's neat.
i thought it was a call-back to the original but opposite to what the MMPR did. like the red thunder zord being a dragon while the red zord from magirangers just being a a guy who rides a dragon
Back when I had this figure as a Kid, I always kept the dragon spines on the legs facing forward. I found they fit better in the sockets, and the spines secured the legs on as they'd 'clip into the guards. Then again, the clips on mine were pretty fragile, the ones for the Firebird broke in the first few months, so for the rest of it's time with me the Thunder megazord was battleskirtless. Think it might've broken when I was trying to attach it to the tigerzord, actually. But the red dragonzord was, for years my favorite toy because of it's pose-ability over other power rangers mechs.
Kirin (Griffon) is a Japanese-Chinese dragon that looks like a scaly horse/deer/ox. Tenma (Unicorn) is a Japanese flying horse constellation similar to Pegasus. Shishi (Lion) is a Japanese protector lion. Houou (Firebird) is based on the same base as Ho-oh the firebird Pokemon of Pokemon Gold. The final one is obviously a Chinese-Japanese Dragon. A little information for you.
The Thunder Megazord’s motif is that of a Chinese warrior, and not a Japanese warrior, because the helmet has a tassel on the top, which can be seen on Chinese armor helmets. Japanese armor helmets(called Kabutos) mainly have decorative metal plates on the forehead that resemble stag beetle mandibles as well as other decorations, but they don’t have a tassel on the top like their Chinese counterparts.
The next best non-Megazord combined mode is a tie for me. It's gotta either be the Wild Force Megazord's train/trailer thing OR the Time Force mega jet (?) mode. Those were gold.
Hey Balt I don't seem to sound that negative but from my perspective as a fan who has watched your videos for while is that one of the biggest reasons why you like this so much is because of the nostalgia, if this came out today and this was completely new I don't think you would have the same reaction
You didn't need to add the dinosaur names, that was only used in the show, because the Thunderzords were made out of the remains of the Dinozords. So really they're just called the Red Dragon, Lion, Unicorn, Griffin and Firebird Thunderzords, without the shoe horned in Dinozord names. Other then that, great review. :)
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was the BEST Power Rangers show ever to me! But the BEST best Power Ranger show I enjoyed watching when I was a boy was Dino Thunder. The Megazords were cool too.
+Long's Toys It looks more like the previous owner had purchased third party labels to make it look more like the BoJ version, the Shishi head is definitely stickered up to be green, that's not paint.
If I recall from my childhood, the american version's Pteradactyl firebird legs came with the white tiger zord. (not sure why, but I recall that my friend had the white tiger zord and I had the main mech but he got the legs of the firebird....)
Hmm you mentioned that there hasn't been an assault mode since these guys, would the time flyers count in their combined ship mode?? Or the SWAT Megazords gun thing mode?
You have the japaneese lion. Here in the us,the lion head was repainted in black to represent the black ranger, because there was a green ranger in dairanger, the sentai the thunderzords were brought over from.
Why do you have a mixed set? Griffin, Unicorn and Dragon are all the American version and Firebird and Lion are Japanese. Or someone half assed the reprolabels.
that is strange because the one ive had since 1996 did not. Especially the green face on the lion and the black edges and lack of power bolts on the firebird. both the griffin and unicorn have them and the red dragon does too. the japanese version looks like the lion and the firebird. i just did the reprolabel sticker swap on mine, thats how i know that. I find it strange that some would come one way and the others dont. also the american version did not have the chrome gold tail or legs for the firebird. also, he pointed out that there was hair on them that was not theirs and you could see some sticker peel already. unless there was a rerelease at some point and they changed only those 2.
is it just me that the dragonzord can transform into Monkey King, think about it, he got the Monkey king crowned which molded the same like any mokey king have and he has a staff. , just saying
Hey Baltmatrix, I don't want to seem pushy but I'm one of the 100k contest winners and still haven't received a package. If you could get back to me id appreciate it.
i have most of this megazord i'm missing the helmet the sword half of the fire bird's left wing half the dragon's staff the little rangers and i think that's it and no i didn't lose those my i got mine used
