THIS IS BRUTAL! wild explosion of mikes creativity and an amazing skill of all his musicians, and of course Maggie R. beautiful, as always(shes like 60 right now or so.. :))..
Plain awesomness. I always eglected the concerts and compilations, only recently i have discovered how many new approaches to the same 'ol mike created in these performances. Now to put them into the time line and see how the tunes evolved. Excellent.
never heard maggie reilly this good before. must have been a great concert one will never forget. even my nightly youtube-sessions with MO follow me in my dreams...
@ichmalealsobinich Yea thats true indeed^^ and the times have changed and so does the meaning that music has today. But it's still and will always be the flower of feeling^^
If one part of this concert is good, the following I see is better... Oh, my goodness, why I had to be born so late and miss all this wonders when they happened??
@icedout24x: thank you for that incredibly insightful and meaningful contribution. Truly, you are an amazing critique of music, and a master of social convention. We should only be so worthy as to read all your brilliant analyses. Please let us know the next time *you* are invited to play at Montreux; it's an event I'm sure we'd all like to miss. Oh, excuse me, I must have meant "attend."
Honestly the highlight of the whole show is the sideburns on Morris Pert. But seriously though, the sheer energy they've put into this performance rules over anything Mike ever recorded. Plus it's great to see some of the later albums like Five Miles Out and Crises being still in development here under the guise of Taurus. Great show!
now, why can't modern music be like this?nowadays you have idiots playing the same chords in the same order but with slightly different lyrics. Mike Oldfield is a god among modern day noise makers. YOU RULE!!!
@ichmalealsobinich I doubt that there will ever be someone like mozart again writing down his first compositions with 4 years of age. Most parents don't even think about music lessons for their children at that age which is sad. Still mike is plain awesome and has a very refreshing aproach to composing contemporary but still neoclassic music.
I like the part starting at 2:13 ;-) (but i'm not used to maggie reilly in this part, though I usually like her). but my fav is starting at 3:something. some of the best finale(s), ever...!
I don't know about the voice, but was actually surprised that MO is 'classified' as a progrocker, Next to Yes, Genesis and ELP. Nothing against, I love his music, and it definitely has elements of progressive rock. Besides, who cares, his music is amazing!
I would not consider them "jazz/fusion" volcals, but hse does have a well trained voice, has great pitch and is very precise. Quite beautiful actually.
It's a mistery to me. I look at a lot of comments here of people wondering why they don't make music like this nowadays. I saw this kind of comments on other music videos of different styles and eras. I like to belive that this is not just a simple case of nostalgia. So all this crap today is made for whom, exactly? Why can't the big music companies understand that people need other things than the Gaga-Bieber oligarhy, and the whole bunch of manufactured artists? Let's get back to the music!
@ibanezguitarman Probably because it have taxed his vocabulary? Have you seen the video of Mr. Oldfield's London Concert for Tubular Bells 3? A surprisingly powerful interpretation, I thought.
i love this ol song soo much lol and im only 15 atm so before my time but amazin none the less and haha the singer looks distraught lol likes shes shat herself or pregnant
love the Les Paul Jr. 1959-60? ..had one n it met an untimely finish to its playing moments as SMASHED by a disgruntled ex'band member ..cryin shame! yet' retain the neck w/fretboard but headstocks shattered GONE ' only fretboard is re'usable...NE1 have an Idea how 2 best tre'Use it? peel it n replace I suppose eh...?
