"To France" is a single by musician Mike Oldfield, released in 1984. It is from the album Discovery and features Maggie Reilly on vocals.
The musical theme used in "To France" was also used on the first track on side two of the Discovery album, "Talk About Your Life". It references Mary, Queen of Scots, in its chorus.
"..."To France" holds the perfect mood for a romantic love story without slickness... with it's Kate Bush like melodies and folkish melody motifs. To the end of the track the delicate arrangements change into a wall of sound made of sharp acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin and atmospheric keys..." (Progarchives review by Fishy).

This was a massive hit in Europe - got to number one in France. However, the music snobs in England didn't give it any airplay.

This is a ballad about Mary Queen of Scots, which finally being recognized, and is a credit to Mike Oldfield to have such a historic depth. Mary indeed never got to France and ended her life in the Tower of London on the executioner's block, but we can be inspired and reach France, where democracy is not just an empty phrase.
