The buttons in the claymore pouch are for the 6 mag bandoleer. They are also in the Patrol pack and Assault pack in the outside pouch.

The LBV was not good kit and it was replaced faster then any load bearing gear in the 20 years I spent. If you want to go old school just get an H harness, buttpack, canteen pouches, IFAK and 4 ammo pouches. Don’t put 12 magazines up front pulling your weight forward like that. Have 2 ammo pouches up front and 2 on the sides by you canteen cups. Keep that weight spread out.
@RavenRedwood

I'm genuinely curious why you say the lbv isn't good kit. I find it perfectly comfortable with how the 6 mags are angled. And yes I have used vietnam deuce gear and the british plce. But if you know the reasons why it was replaced so quickly I'd love to hear your thoughts 🤙
@VictoryOrValhalla14
@VictoryOrValhalla14 6 месяцев назад
@@RavenRedwood was hot, not modular(you couldn’t alter it at all) and nearly impossible to wear over armor. The shoulder straps got in the way of rucksack straps. Most soldiers wouldn’t even wear it over the old school Y harness LBE. We would go out and buy H harnesses because they didn’t issue them. The LBV and Molle Ruck are both the worst kit I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. The rucksack is so bad dudes would beg to use the old large Alice packs.

@@VictoryOrValhalla14that's really good to know, thank you! I haven't tried it over a plate carrier yet but it wasn't playing that well with the alice pack. As much as I like woodland, I don't want to make the mistake investing in something that isn't pleasant to use. Lots of great new gear companies nowadays and most of them offer many patterns. Just hard to justify spending a lot on something I've never used before, right. Guess that's why there's ebay. Thanks again, cheers man 👍

@@RavenRedwood get yourself a good plate carrier or recce chest rig. I personally use Haley chest rigs, even got my woman one. I’m currently using Trex plate carrier and I like it a lot. I took it to a class a few years ago and it did well. Remember you do not want to overload yourself. You want ammo, IFAK and water. Everything else comes second. Survival/fire starter, food, extra water, snivel gear, extra socks, shelter etc etc etc go in your rucksack. Keep your kit light as possible and yourself mobile.

Army Navy Outdoors Is selling the Ruck, complete (frame, all straps, main pack, sleep pack, two sustainment pouches) for $90.00. When I ordered mine, the guy didn't even know they had been in stock. When I received it, it looked pretty new. Just storage dust, but in excellent condition. That was just a few days ago.

Great and informative! The Camelbak was delivered in 2 different very simple versions with the MOLLE 1 and 2 systems, later in camo with attachments. Also, the IIFS buttpack with the first version, and the assault pack was smaller. The early 1990s trial/USMC only - a very flimsy frame and kidney pad assembly

Love the butt packs! First introduced in 1956.. I still use the same pattern '62 canvas model I used in the late 80's.. works well with the two pocket canvas ARVN style alice pack.. light and easy.. If i recall the original butt packs were '56, 62 & 67.. dont know about them after that.. great vid, thx!

I use the sleep system bag on my ALICE Hellcat, but I put a shelter in that bag, I live in the tropics so I use the rain poncho and liner for my sleeping bag, which is rolled up in my one person tent. I call it my SIOU system. Lol. Sleep. In. On. Under. Kind of a combined all in one sort of affair. Its works for me. Great video, I have that same identical ruck system as well.

I found a molle ruck that was probably super early production, it was similar to woodland camo pattern but it was desert colors and had 2 good sized separate bags The sleeping bag system on the bottom was pretty huge and expanded out backwards not upwards I took everything off the frame (easier said than done on those....) And used the suspension on an Alice pack 👍👍👍👍 kept the frame and bags for spares

I used downeast frames to do a Hellcat conversions to both medium and large ALICE packs. Along with the modern MOLLE shoulder and waist belts, the ALICE found new life. 3River mentioned the adapters. They are great to use.

good video! the small pack you have there is actually the patrol pack, not the 3 day assault pack. it was replaced by the assault pack before the cammo changed and can only be found in woodland. it is smaller than the assault pack. heres my recent video on it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nacd3ANldHA.html i just recently was able to get my hands on one and i have found them to be very rare. yours looks great. the buttons inside the claymore pouch are to snap the 6 mag bandolier. they exist on all the claymore pouches of all the packs. you need to get one of those bandoliers to really complete the set.

In future videos it would make the pack easier to see if you stuffed the pack and its pockets. The mostly empty pack combined with the Camouflage makes it hard to tell what one is looking at. Just a Friendly suggestion. Best Wishes! M.H.

Slowly acquired most of the Molle 1 stuff. How the heck do you carry the rucksack and the vest? Is that even something you are supposed to do? Getting the rucksack belt on seems very hard if you have anything on the FLV belt at all. Is one belt always supposed to go above the other? The gen 1 was too ahead of its time, utilizing the probe/socket so that you could have 1 common belt between the FLV and Rucksack.

+3 River Blades I have to ask you, man, I've always wondered what that single row of MOLLE loops above the front compartment on the patrol pack and assault pack are for. Did you guys ever actually MOLLE stuff onto it or use it for any purpose? Seems like whatever you attach to it would just flop around, since it's just a single row of loops. It doesn't seem to be a useful feature so I thought I would ask someone that actually used that little pack, as it's always driven me crazy trying to figure what it could be for whenever I see pictures of it. As far as the large main ruck, I have a newer gray digital version and it seems way different. Mine doesn't have the Claymore pouch but seems to have a lot more MOLLE, 5 rows of a bunch of loops on the front that wrap around to where the frame is ( mine has a way more heavy duty frame ), some on the sides of the sleep system compartment ( which is not detachable, it has a big, heavy zipper so you can open it up to have a bigger main compartment or zip it up and have another compartment, which can be accessed with a big, zippered opening on the front ), and 2 rows of a bunch of loops on the lid flap. The inner lid pocket is heavy nylon mesh with a Velcro access point and holds a good bit of gear ( I mostly use it to store extra ammo packs. I use a kitchen vacuum sealer and label the bags as to caliber, grain weight, bullet type, number of rounds, and so on ). The sustainment pouches are there like on yours ( I love those things, they hold so much stuff ) and I MOLLE a 200 round SAW gunner pouch under each sustainment pouch ( those 200 round SAW pouches are great as well, since they can easily carry 6 30 round mags for the AKM, my favorite rifles, along with my CETME .308's [since I couldn't afford an H&K G-3 many years ago when I bought the AKMs and CETME rifle's] 20 round mags ). Does your large ruck have a zipper at the top of the ruck's main compartment, right under the lid flap at the rear of the main compartment and, if so, what is the zipper up there for? It doesn't have a hydration bladder compartment, so I've wondered about it's purpose. Also, one of the MOLLE rows on the side of the sleep compartment is sewn on top of some way bigger loops, which doesn't seem to have any purpose. Thanks if you can provide some insight as to the purpose of the puzzling features of those rucks that I mentioned and respond. Cool video, liked and subbed ;)

This style Ruck is the 1st Generation Rifleman Ruck, it started out with a padded waistbelt separate from the FLC and Ruck, with a ratchet height adjustment mechanism. This first Gen Downeast 1603 black plastic frames were NOTORIOUS for breaking under minimal use, like falling off the back of a Deuce in the cold. This Ruck Waistbelt attached to the FLC with 1" webbing straps with plastic ladderlock buckles. Downeast improved the plastic formula to be more durable. These 1st Gen Waist Belts SUCK but they are getting extremely rare, if you are a collector grab one while you can, most were destroyed during field use. The Gen 1 then adopted the current style Ruck Waist Belt attached to the Downeast 1603 Frame. At this same time a Large MOLLE Ruck was adopted to replace the 10th Mountain Div and Light units CFP-90 Internal Frame Rucksacks. This Large Rucksack eliminated the exterior Claymore/Ammo Pocket but incorporated the sleeping bag carrier into the bottom of an enlarged pack bag. MOLLE Gen II standardized on this Large Ruck for all troops along with the larger Style 4095 3-Day/Assault Pack that has the external flat pocket on the exterior pocket in Woodland, DCU, UCP, Multicam OCP and now Scorpion OCPII. Note: Gen 1 MOLLE FLC and Belt shown on this link, not my website nor am I affiliated: inrd.gotdns.com/alice/molle1.htm

The ruck you are describing is the MOLLE II Large Ruck. The video is on the MOLLE (Gen 1) Rifleman Ruck. I never got the Rifleman version while I was in, but I deployed with the MOLLE II Large. The sleeping compartment was integrated, the claymore pouch was dxed, the patrol pack was replaced with the assault pack. The zipper was for another attachment that I didn't use. Maybe for jumping it? Not sure. The Large Ruck was the only Rucksack for quite a while so maybe. The double size webbing is ALICE attachment. ALICE clips are 2 inches tall so they arent directly compatible with PALS webbing unless it is the full block.

OMG! OMG! You have so many bullet thingys. Why? Why do you need so many? Why? OMG!😉 Good video. Looks like your gear is still in good condition with very little fraying and no unissued holes. I still have both the medium and large ALICE packs so I guess I will stick with them as I have had them close to 40 years and they are paid for.🤣 I do like the sleep system setup, though. Looks like the pack could hold enough gear to get you through a week or so in the boonies away from so called civilization. The original MOLLE 2 pack frames were horrible. They were so bad, people used the old ALICE frames, as they were less prone to breaking. The new ones are great. I still do a weekly ruck of about 5 miles, with about 30 lbs (at 50 mind you), and use this pack with the new frame. It is far more comfy than the old ALICE packs, which I used daily for 14 damned years as a grunt. I remember when Tactical Tailor started making MUCH better shoulder and waist belts for the ALICE pack. Those damned things would kill your kidneys. My nephew is currently in Selection-and he is using an old school ALICE pack with TT straps. So, I guess you get to choose these days. That, and the old ALICE frame could carry more weight than you could-provided you didnt pop a rivet. We could always tell a grunt frame from a pogue frame. Grunt frames on ALICE packs had all the rivet areas taped. Not sure if it helped or not, but, at least if you popped a rivet, you didnt get shanked by your pack....
