I've been marathoning reactions to this performance, every one amazing. From the younger folks who really don't know who Phil is (even through he's been in the background of their lives forever), to the opera voice coach who took apart every moment of this song to let you know just how amazing the sound and vocals really are (singing perfectly while drumming like Phil does is almost impossible in her experience), to older folks like us who know Phil but can always find more to enjoy and appreciate that he's done. This performance is now the go to for In the Air Tonight for me.

Phil was 53 years old when he performed this live !!!!! I can’t believe what it takes for him to walk up to those drums, singing his heart out !!!!! How did he do that, I got tired just watching him walk around the stage !!! This was EPIC !!!!!! I wish I had seen him live ….. damn !!!!!!!

An almost forty year old song and people still feel the magic, the passion, and the power. I love it!

Daryl Stuermer's guitar at 4.53 is what gets most people who listen to this performance for the first time. Fantastic song and performance by Phil and his band. Probably one of the very best live performances of a studio track in history.

I saw this same performance live in Florida on his "First Final Farewell Tour"...simply AMAZING in person...the whole show was fantastic!!!! He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha

Phil is so awesome when he sings and plays the drums. I'm 75 yrs old and still get goosebumps when I hear him sing on this video. I'm a few yrs older than him but so proud of our baby boomer generation. We had a lot of music talent. There is so much you need to research. Fleetwood Mac, the Doors, the Steve Miller Band, Bob Seger Band, the Righteous Brothers just to name a few. We can't forget the Motown groups!

Loved your guys energy and love of music. Since Feb 1981, this has been the most amazing long build up song with a massive "Tour de Force" at the end with Phill drumming and singing like the GOAT that he is! I so wish he was still a Beast! His back, neuroligical and other health issues have been brutal since 2007. I keep praying for miracles for Phil! Please join me in prayers and warm wishes even if you're not religious.

January 1981 Phil wrote, produced and performed this single in a very subdued UK environment with 'some' attention but not at the the level it's risen to today. The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...I saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the climax is...well, you tell me!

I think he sings better in this Live performance than in an older one i watched when he was a lot younger, this sounds much better than the studio recording as well but it’s due to the live instruments and also the acoustics as well

Phil has had to sadly retire from playing the drums (back surgery) so this performance is just a little more special than it already is.

Been a fan of his since I saw him on drums for the band Genesis, after Peter Gabriel left, and was very impressed. I believe that he filled in on drums for the "Live Aid" concert in England. I’ve always wondered how many test runs Phil did to get the timing just right to get to the drum set to pound the skins. Were there people standing around with stopwatches in incremental places along the way? Did he know where he should be based on the music? Hell, I don’t know. But it was brilliant.
