To install the deadbolt cover. Loosen the two 14mm bolts with a impact socket, long extension and long handle rachet. Dont remove both bolts. Remove one bolt. Attach the deadbolt cover. Commpress the sping and use a zip tie to keep spring compreseed. Install the bolt dont tighten all the way. Remove the other bolt, zip tie the spring, slide deadbolt over and install the bolt. Tighten the bolts cut the zip tie and your done.
Cat Shield should also mention these are essentially undertrays that improve the aerodynamics. It's minimal but things like this will increase efficiency and reduce drag.
Great video must see before installing! my Miller cat shield came vith a tool to install the rivets so i took the gun back. Used a breaker bar to remove the spring bolls and a lot of patience to reinstall them. Rest much easier now!!
Great video. I just installed the same exact shield on my 2008 Prius. I started with trying to install the deadbolt. I was able to get the spring bolts out of the exhaust manifold flange. However, when I tried to install the deadbolt I was only able to get one spring bolt installed. The thickness of the deadbolt ears that the spring bolt goes through was jus thick enough where some force was needed to compress the spring on the bolt to install the other side. As I was doing this like you on your back under the car on ramps I couldn't get into a good position to exert enough force on the bolt to compress the spring to get engagement. So I just ended up installing the shield, and will take the car to my mechanic and use his lift to get the car in the are and install the deadbolt.
I found the use of a electric impact gun 3/4” worked best, 9/16” socket, 12” extension. On the exhaust manifold connection point. I’m sure a pneumatic one will work as well
Hi Drift Geek. Thanks for making this video. It really helped me do the installation. I've got a 2005 and a 2009 Prius. So I bought two of these. Expensive, but I haven't been ripped off and hope these motivate any dirtbags to not even try to take my converters. Also, I saw some desert camo morale patches on your wall. You've probably been in the sandbox like me in the past. Thanks for your service bro.
Glad this video helped. They stole our converter twice from my driveway. The last time they stole it I had just gotten back from my second time in the sandbox. Thank you for your service as well. These shields are built very well so I hope they do help in stopping thieves.
Good video. Unfortunately, the cat shield is NOT a DYI. As mentioned, the deadbold collar is too difficult to remove. The spring bolts require too much power to turn without a lift and plenty of room to use high torque or breaker bar. The main shield is a no-brainer. I paid midas $100 to do the job. Don't let a shop quote more than an hour. 20-30 minutes tops, even for someone who as never installed one.
Hi Drift Geek, Thanks for the video. You might want to re-title the video to indicate this Catshield is for the Gen 2 Prius and it's the second version shield (V2). You might get more hits. Currently, I think yours is the only one out there. Looking forward to the follow up.
when trying to remove each of the three 10mm bolts at the front, they all sheared off, leaving stumps but not way to reattach those nuts. Help! Any ideas of how to deal with this most gratefully welcomed. Specific process and replacement parts would be most helpful. Thank you.
If you use the Doyle rivet nut tool a little differently, it is easy to do lying on your back. The trick: Do Not screw the riv nut all the way on the mandrel at start. Screw it on only enough make the arms move out about 1/3. Squeeze the arms together, then give the mandrel a couple more turns in. Squeeze the arms together again. Repeat until the process until the riv nut has fully expanded. If you start with the riv nut screwed all the way onto mandrel, the arms of the tool go all the way out. It is very hard to get leverage on the tool in this configuration. Especially while flat on your back, under the car. I am going red Loctite the tamper-proof bolts after a few weeks. Has anyone done that? the screw the mandrel in pa
Thieves stole the catalytic cinverter of my 2022 Toyota tacona twice. I bought a Miller cat shield and a Glock 45 caliber pistol. Hopefully they dont steal it the 3rd time for their own good.
Do you still have the prius and has the cat shield proven to be effective? I'm looking at installing the same one probably. Had mines taken from my driveway.
You had 2 stolen with this new version of the shield? Yikes. I heard that thieves could get around the old flat version but was hoping this one would be better protection.
Great tips. Nice to see another person had a lot of trouble with the Deadbolt. The Millercat website made it look like a piece of cake. I too could not get it out on the first attempt. Then off to Home Depot and Harbor Freight, and acquired some Pb Blaster (Home Depot) and a breaker bar. Then I tackled our part 2 and got the bolts out, but then getting the bolts in with the metal piece was an endeavor in contortion techniques. So, I gave up and felt lucky to get the thing back together. So, it is going to have to be a part 3 for me. On taking the shield out to put in the Deadbolt, the rivet nut bolt stopped threading on reinsertion as the rivnut was damaged and would only insert part way. I used a TV mount spacer to do a temp fix. To remove the rivnut, I used a Harbor Freight $2 special. www.harborfreight.com/12-in-six-flute-countersink-61552.html Also, if you do not want to spend money on a rivnut tool, use a coupling nut: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cel7FllhxJM.html Glad someone else found the deadbolt an absolute PITA to install. It should have been designed as an external cover without the need to remove anything! Maybe Millercat can design a CAT V3 for us? Thanks for the Drift Geek experience. If you ever get the Deadbolt in, please come help me!
