Young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is haunted by a dark secret: he is visited by ghosts. Cole is frightened by visitations from those with unresolved problems who appear from the shadows. He is too afraid to tell anyone about his anguish, except child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis). As Dr. Crowe tries to uncover the truth about Cole's supernatural abilities, the consequences for client and therapist are a jolt that awakens them both to something unexplainable.

I never noticed that, but it makes sense when you consider, for example, Malcolm's first visit to Cole's apartment. To an audience member, it looks like they were talking, but I always thought of it that if Lynn was actually talking to Malcolm, she would tell Cole someone was there to see him. Damn, this movie is so good!

If you pay close attention, the color red in this movie is used to show whenever death is close by. The dress the woman who killed Kyra was wearing, the doorknob whenever Malcolm tried to turn it, the nail polish on Cole’s mom’s fingers when she’s looking at the family pictures and notices Cole is always looking away, the bike helmet the lady who died in the crash was wearing; there’s so many details like that in this movie.

Toni Collette absolutely, totally NAILED the car scene. They both did. She was brilliant, and Haley's performance is quite possibly the best child performance I've seen, and who could have believed Bruce could pull off such an understated, measured performance, that hides so well the killer twist. And, by the way, DON'T feel dumb. I saw this back in the day, before spoilers, and NO ONE I know of, saw the twist. NO ONE. It is so incredibly well hidden and yet was there all the time. It's what made M. Night so famous. It's also incredibly well directed and written. A classic for sure.

The best part of the movie is rewatching it and seeing all the clues that showed he was dead the whole time. No matter how many times I see this film, I’m struck by a few things: •Donnie Wahlberg is absolutely unrecognizable (and brilliant) in the opening scene. •Cole is so pure of heart he doesn’t want to lie to his mom & say he took the bumble bee pendant. It would have been so much easier for him to have said Yes, I took it. •Toni Collette is one of the most underrated and under appreciated actors in the industry. Seeing this in theaters, there was an audible gasp and collective jaw drop. It was amazing!! And it’s always such a treat to watch someone else who hasn’t had the twist ruined for them!!! Remarkably, it’s one of those films no matter how many times I’ve seen it, if I’m channel surfing & it’s on, I’ll stop & watch it to the end. Some other great twist films- •Primal Fear w Edward Norton •Presumed Innocent w Harrison Ford •And going legit classic- Whatever Happened to Baby Jane w Bettye Davis & Joan Crawford. The last perfect for October viewing!😱 Another great reaction; Thank You!🎃 Stay safe & love much💖

If you look carefully at the scene where Malcolm kicks the door at Anna's shop, he's holding the place he was shot. Also, I don't know if you noticed, but his chair was positioned in a way so that he could sit down at the restaurant without moving it and there was no placemat. Fun fact, but in the original storyboards, there would be a brief moment of a waiter and waitress kind of flirting before walking away and M Night. was trying to show two people in and out of love and the line "happy anniversary" was actually given to Malcolm. You should really check out the behind-the-scenes of this film for all the little details they used. Like for example, the color red, which was used to show someone or something that was tainted by the "other world" and any time there was red by accident, they quickly got rid of it and also thought the hospital scene was a bit much because it felt like the audience would figure out the twist. Minty Comedic Arts has a really interesting video on this.

24:40 Munchausen by proxy. Munchausen is like being a hypochondriac except that rather than just imagining illnesses the person is deliberately hurting themselves or making themselves sick as a way of getting attention. When it's by proxy it's when someone makes someone in their care sick (like a child or an elderly person) to get validation or attention, a 'she's so strong, to be put through all of this and to keep going', or a 'I don't know what we'd do without him' or a 'I'm needed here, they need me to take care of them' (originally in the script the mother said 'I looked after her' after being confronted with what she did). The aim isn't generally to kill, it's to keep them continuously sick for years so that they'll stay in power over that person (remember the 'you know how you get sick in the afternoons' and the 'don't tell me it tastes funny, you know I don't like to hear that' and how everyone at the funeral was saying that she'd been sick for years). Either it was a writing mistake or the mother just got careless and killed her daughter by accident.

That shot going down middle of road with cars on either side following the cop reminded me of the happening lol. Yeah its like split and unbreakable this is his super power lol. I remember this when it first came out and that twist lol

LOVE Shyamalan. My favourite is The Village - so underrated. Please watch it! Lady in the Water too; not quite as good but still an unfairly maligned Shyamalan entry.

The old courthouse in my hometown is also haunted. They used to jail and hang people in the basement. Now ots used as a backdrop for newlywed and quinceañera pics. And they shot an American horror story thing there

Fun Fact: Toni Collette was approached to play Bridget Jones in ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’. (Also, me subtly giving you a sign you should watch that iconic trilogy)

Lol what a strange thought. As much as I love Toni Collette I can’t imagine anyone but Renee Zellweger in that role

This is one of my favorite movies of all-time! I’ve seen it many times now and after the first time you start to see the clues that he’s dead too! Malcolm only ever talks to Cole! He can’t open the closet because of the table but it probably wasn’t there when he was alive so he didn’t see it there and though it was locked! And there are many other hints! The Others is another of my favorites with a twist ending!

21:41 Like the woman who showed him her slashed wrists. She killed herself because her husband hit her. She wants him to be held accountable for what he did to her. And I bet the boy who said "I'll show you where my dad keeps his gun" wants whoever it was he was showing the gun to to admit that he shot him, I think whoever it was let the authorities think that he was playing with the gun and accidentally shot himself rather than admit "He showed me the gun, he turned around, I didn't mean to shoot him, it was an accident".

What Bruce Willis movie should we see next on this channel? My vote is for the dark comedy 'Death Becomes Her' - though some may say that's more Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn's movie than his movie, still all three are on the main poster so it really doesn't matter. Either way it's a hilarious movie that Timothee should watch.

16:23 The first time I watched this movie, when the kid's in the bathroom at the toilet and that figure of someone walking by with that LOUD scary music made me flip my popcorn UP in the air and it all came flying down on 3 of us (this was in my home - NOT in the theatre!)
