Going turbo on the R50 is a lot of work and can get expensive if you don't know what the gotcha's are.

Will stock motor not hold any boost?

My red one is a 2003

The short blocks are different. Heads have larger valves in the R53, and the piston/rods are different.

@@powerlifter_garage6211 so you can make an NA r53....? I need a replacement SB for my r50...so getting a 53 seems wise...especially when getting your kit down the road?

It’ll run with the R50 ECU but will cause all sorts of problems due to the compression. I highly would advise against it.

Yea, DONT BOOST IT !!!!! it's the wrong lower end and does not support boost..it's a whole different internals than an r53 ( supercharged engine ) you cannot just boost the n/a engine and call it a day. It's not a honda

That is correct, the R53 has forged bottom end. The R50 does not. But at 5-7psi the R50 will work fine. We still have one with this setup on.
