This is a run through of the basics of the i-Pilot Terrova. This covers the basic functions and how we use them on a daily basis. We also take a look at how we set them up for our customers. I hope that you find this helpful!
*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*
Thank you, after watching a dozen other 'common sense' videos I found this one that actually shows you how to use the best features with the remote. Video very well done.
Great video and thanks so much for the information. I just had one of these installed on my boat down in Foley AL. Looking forward to the use and operations.
This video is by far the best I’ve seen on these smart trolling motors - thanks for taking the time to absolutely nail it! And for showing us the best place to keep the remote - I don’t like heavy lumps round your neck on a lanyard so I think I’ll follow your example. I also cannot believe someone is getting preachy on how to pronounce the word sammich!! 😂😂😂 getting one of these, in the UK unfortunately but thanks for the advice
Great tutorial man! Just bought a boat with the ipilot and didn’t know anything about the unit. Didn’t know it had all of these features until I watched your video!
thank you very much for the simple you tube tutorial. i had my salt water minn kota installed and they were closing when i picked it up so no time for showing me anything. thanks Brent
I have the 112 36v longest model (72)riptide. I just realized there was such thing as lift assist as mine didn’t come with it. Is it easy to install on the shaft? I’m up front of my Maycraft 2550 in choppy conditions 40 degree weather. It gets heavy after doing it multiple times a day looking for tog in nj winters.
When deploying the unit, how do I make sure it's locked in so it will operate correctly? Do I just turn it until it clicks into place? Also, what keeps the TM from moving up and down in the sleeve when you're in really rough waters? Thanks.
It will seat itself when in use but you can turn it manually into position too. Also when that motor is deployed it's moving with the boat and the lower unit is so much heavier than the head unit, it will never lift up like your asking about. Plus when it is in use the pressure from the unit makes it so that you can't move it up without turning it off.
How has that MK2 charging system worked out?? Interested because I was told by my dealer here that they could not wire the Minn Kota batteries into my cranking battery circuit. Apparently they have tried this before and over time it burns out the circuit board in the Minn Kota motor. They are qualified marine and auto electricians here in New Zealand, would the Mark2 system you referred to fix this issue?
@@LostAngler Thanks for the reply. I'm query this again on the next service. Makes complete sense to have the motor charge the Minn Kota battery bank as well.
Just measured my Mako skiff. I have 19" from mounting surface to the water. So in that case should I go with the 54 or 60? I didn't see what boat you wished you had a 60 on. Thanks
Thank you, I love your video. my questions is it does not seem that my Ipilot 80 will hold a straight line when i go into AP. Any suggestions? Do you have to hit the check mark if you make adjustment when in AP?
That depends on how strong the current or the wind you're fighting is. I have a 20ft bay boat and in the wind and current of the bay, all day and then some. In the gulf I'm happy to get a full day out of them. Next go around I'm going to upgrade to a 60" and a 112# thrust terrova.
@@Cdawg1871980 that's your problem. We have never had luck with the Ulterra. I don't even sell them at my store. I hope your problem gets resolved. I would love it if they would work out the kinks on that unit.
Lost Angler it’s not like it was cheap either it was 2200$ hopefully the new power head fixes it ! It looks exactly like the one in the video even the remote is the same
@@Cdawg1871980 I know! It is a very expensive unit! And hopefully fix you have rolling will do the trick. And the unit in the video is the terrova. We have had no problems with those
Why do you use MK 2dc alternator to charge trolling Batteries and not conect it to Starter bateries directly making a Batteries bank. What is the difference?
So this boat has a two battery system for the cranking and accessories. This is a separate system all together. We didn't want to run the risk of allowing the trolling motor to run down the cranking and accessories battery as it can be used to crank the outboard as well. So a bit of redundancy for additional safety
@@LostAngler thank you for your answer. When you use MK alternator charger only charge the trolling battery when the starter ones are Full. I have a Robalo R222 EX with Yami 250 offshore 70 amp alternator and Im thinking of adding a trolling motor. What Minn Kota is more reliable Terrova or Ulterra because I don't want to buy Problems in the long run.
No I actually prefer the 80#. It does an awesome job and you will be in no danger of running out the batteries in one day with a full charge. But that being said, no one ever said they had too much trolling motor. So if you feel like you want to roll a 112# unit, then go for it. But 80 is more than enough.
@@LostAngler I actually have the Ulterra but the remote looks the same. I thought the up and down arrows were used to trim the motor, but does another button have to be pressed first. I have not found clear instructions for this in the manual or on any video on RU-vid.
Installé sur un zodiac 11.5' il délivre exactement ce que Newport donne comme spécifications Vraiment content du résultat et pas mal plus fort que mon Minn Kota 46lbs
@@LostAngler there is a 12volt plug in the inside wall of the boat where you plug a trolling motor in, looks like there use to be a trolling motor of some kind on there before i got it
I know everyone says it's no problem to fish by yourself with the remote, but that realistically can't be, you are forever taking a hand away from fishing to make adjustments. The foot pedal appears to be the answer, it's easy and you never have to drop a hand. Both hands fishing, WHILE making adjustments as often as you wish. Why do more people not use it? Extra cost? Unaware? Maybe I'm missing the simplicity of this
@@LostAngler thank you for the reply. I spend a lot of time in weeds, thus the constant adjustments. Cruise control a bit difficult in tight quarters. I get the thought process you describe for open water
Good afternoon. When turning the engine to the right, it makes much louder noises than when turning it to the left. What can it be? Here on video. ru-vid.comqCgITsiLa8g
Yeah this was a customer's boat and I didn't want to risk dropping the remote the day before the delivery. I will be upgrading my own trolling motor this spring and I will do a much better video with multiple camera angles. And I promise to unclip the remote!
I'll do another video on the trolling motor soon on my own boat. This was a customer's boat and I didn't want to run the risk of losing his remote. With my luck I'd end up dropping it in the delta
The trolling motor was for a customer and not mine so I didn't want to risk losing his remote. And when I fish with mine that's where I put it. I plan on doing another video when I upgrade my trolling motor and it will be easier to see the remote and what to do. I will also include tips to make its usage easier. I hope that answers your question and thank you for the feedback
