Miquella is Melina | Elden Ring DLC Speculation 

Thank you all so much for watching! I never expected such a huge response to my first video, which I mainly wanted to make to convince my friends I’m not insane. I’d also like to draw your attention to the fact that some geniuses beat me to this theory on Reddit OVER A YEAR AGO. They have some different evidence and conclusions than my video, but I’m convinced one of us will end up being right. If (WHEN) the DLC validates us all, be sure to flood those Reddit posts congratulating them as well. Peace.

I recall Miyazaki saying in a recent interview that he's surprised nobody's figured out "something" that staring us in the face... I have no clue, but this, this Melina/ Miquella theory looks solid

This may be a bit of a stretch. But ranni destroyed her empyrean form so that she would maintain control over herself. It is possible that miquella divesting himself of his flesh is something very similar in theory. One thing to support this is the eye damage both ranni and melina have. Maybe somehow signifying the destruction of their original empyrean forms.

I think in Greek mythology it’s told we were originally chimeras. They had 4 arms, 4 legs, and a complete soul, making them perfect. A god grew jealous, and split them in two, even their very souls. This created man and woman, in search of their other half, their soulmates, to recombine again. Miyazaki could be referencing this myth as to a god, a perfect being. That’s what dictates Empyrians from champions and demigods, they have a second half. Radagon and Marika, Ranni and the Doll, Malenia and her daughter Millicent, and now Miquella and Melina.

Melina also serves as your Maiden after your maiden is killed by White Mask Varre, who follows Mohg, who is under the seductive spell of Miquella.

I started out very skeptical, but I have to say you cooked. Like Thops's, this is "a discovery worthy of a whole new conspectus"

seeing this popping in my recommendations I just smiled in complete disbelief, "oh, these schizo conspiracies are certainly funny, lets give it a watch for the lols", but after watching it, I think this makes sense, you may have cracked the code sir, it makes so much sense that now I'll be mad if this isn't true, I may want to add that melina was the one character that had somewhat less spotlight relative to her contributions, its kinda weird how much lore we got from the characters from item descriptions and dialogue, yet the one who welcome us, give us a horse, let us level up, tells us the story of the world and take us to the roundtable remains obscure, I think that could be intentional, so the revelation later on can be mindblown, damn I'm so eager to play that dlc that I keep coming back to see people speculating, but this in parcitular left me thinking, thanks for making my day and possibly ruining the surprise, 2 months to go, please blow my mind with another theory meanwhile.

Something that comes to mind to me is that when characters give fake names, they give names that are remarkably similar to their normal name -- Margott gives Margit, Ranni gives Renna, and Melina gives a name very close to "Malenia" - Which knowing the bond between Malenia and Miquella, it sounds like a very "Miquella" thing to do to use his sister's name instead of his own as his pseudonym

Makes sense to me. Miquella is known to be very persuasive. How to convince lonely tarnished to do what you want? Turn yourself into a girl to make them simping after you. After all he had a great example of his parent Marika turned herself into Radagon to gain control over Raya Lucaria.

Just because of the fact you mentioned that they could be like a radagon/marika type situation with different motifs but are still the same person that actually still makes melina being the gloam eyed queen completely plausible and also most the other theories about her. More things to add! Melina tells you straight up that she's not a maiden, yet can "play the role". Only someone who can act as a sort of conduit of the two fingers can do this. So if Melina can do so without being a maiden, she must have some sort of connection to the Greater Will, of which Miquella has in spades. Not only can she do this, but she can grant *us* the ability to power *ourself*, which strikes me as odd. Just a hunch, but I don't think other maidens could do this as it inherently allows a Tarnished to power up without adhering to the wishes of the Fingers. I find it interesting that nobody - not even Gideon is aware of Melina. He doesn't even mention her in any kind of dialogue, which seemed strange to me because he talks about everyone. But then he says that Miquella is basically a mystery to him still. And obviously he doesn't suspect you have a "false maiden" because he's very clearly an up-tight prick when it comes to the Roundtable Hold. So he would snuff that out immediately, I feel.

This is the kind of theory that you never really think about until someone points it out and then it seems pretty obvious

Fuck the theories this music choice is stellar. Great video On another note, if this is true, and Melina is the Gloam eyed queen, that means miquella is not only Trina and Melina, but also the Gloam eyed queen. I think that would make it incontestable that Miquella is truly the strongest Demigod. Not only does he have the ability to influence the will of others, unending youth, the ability to travel between and create realms, and the ability to kill Gods.

I don't like the Hands argument, Rya teleports us to the Manor the same way. Other than that, very good video. Could be also that the purple Beast Eye that Gurranq gives us is that third eye St. Trina has on their forehead depicted on that torch.

It sounds like St. Trina/Melina conspired with Ranni to kill Godwyn. Look at the opening intro image of Godwyn getting stabbed: it looks like St. Trina’s sleep mist is surrounding him. The knives used to kill Godwyn were imbued with fragments of the rune of death, and the Black Knives’ weapons literally look exactly like Melina’s knife with a few “teeth” from the rune of death added to the blade. Both Melina and Ranni have the mark of death tattooed over one of their eyes, which I think is both symbolic of their covenant with each other and possibly linked to the fact they both “divested themselves of their flesh”. If they used St. Trina’s mist to subdue Godwyn before he was murdered, then I think that’s also why he didn’t die a true death. From what I can tell, evergaols are also small areas that exist in the Land of Shadow, and you get there by kneeling on a seal glowing with the same purple color as anything linked to St. Trina. They also appear to be “veiled” when you enter them, just like the Land of Shadow and the Roundtable Hold. I’m pretty sure the way people get trapped in evergaols is that they’re killed while asleep from St. Trina’s mist, which seals their spirits in the Land of Shadow, and we enter the evergaols by kneeling and possibly losing consciousness on the seal. I think Melina and Ranni intended to use the rune of death to avoid this fate for Godwyn and give him a true death, but his spirit still got sent to the Land of Shadow, and now the Erdtree is spreading undeath by trying to resurrect Godwyn’s corpse without having a spirit to reincarnate. If this is the case, then I think the entire goal of the DLC will be to enter the Land of Shadow and kill Godwyn. That’s why Miquella wants to guide the player there, partially to give his brother peace, but also because he shares blame for what happened since his alter-ego cooked up the whole plan. If Godwyn dies then it could potentially solve a lot of the greater scope problems facing the Lands Between. I also think St. Trina compelled Mohg to send his follower Varre to kill the player’s maiden, so Melina could take their place, and possibly also compelled Mohg to become obsessed with Miquella. I believe Mohg was inside of Miquella’s body because he’s aware that the real Miquella is in the Land of Shadow and was trying to brute force his way there through the hand without knowing exactly how it works. All the Black Knife Assassins wore veils to conceal themselves, and I think they worked similarly to the One Ring: they make you invisible by putting you between worlds, on the precipice of the Land of Shadow. I’d also like to point out that to get to the Haligtree you have to enter the biggest evergaol in the game and face multiple invisible Black Knives within it. It seems like St. Trina doesn’t want anyone to get there. It’s also possible that Faram Azula is also in the Land of Shadow. This may be a stretch, but the only place you can see Faram Azula from the ground is at the Isolated Divine Tower, which is both a place you can’t physically walk to and also the corresponding tower for his sister Malenia’s great rune. Seems significant since there are several other places where you logically should be able to see Faram Azula, like the Forge of the Giants.

Dude the evidence you presented is really good and I think you might be right. Respect if you figured this out alone before the DLC.

I've assumed Miquella is guiding us the whole time, but never put two and two together like this. Point of note: when first meeting Melina at a site of grace, the time is forcibly set to night. The Tarnished dozed off and meets Melina in a dream, which is, of course, St. Trina's domain.

Miyazaki has indicated the community missed some lore secret. Maybe this is it.

9:40 Miquella has a pretty strong interest in repelling the Outer Gods, particularly the Scarlet Rot, the reason for this is pretty clear since his dearest wish is to cure his sister. Nice theory tbh, idk why Miquella would want to burn the Erdtree as much as Melina tho, since he wanted to harvest it not so long ago. Maybe now that his Haligtree plans are ruined he's going for plan B. Also i feel it would be strange to go to the Haligtree with Melina if she was Miquella. Same with Castel Sol. Good choice of music btw \o/

A few notes that may be relevant to this theory: Miquella being Melina and the gloam-eyed queen would cement the double helix as Miquella's symbol. This symbol is present in a lot of godskin stuff (like the godslayer greatsword), as well as the Haligtree and Miquella's needle. If this is Miquella's symbol, it would tie him to Messmer's story as well. Messmer's crest is an impalement (the heraldic term) of two coat of arms, the flame (Messmer's flame) and a double helix ring. Melina's charred body may therefore have something to do with Messmer's flame, or Messmer burning the Erdtree in the past. If we look at the roundtable hold symbol, it has the same double helix ring around it as that on Messmer's crest. The land of shadow has definite ties to death. The Erdtree essentially replaces the process of death, perhaps bypassing the land of shadow's previous purpose (I believe there's an interview in which it is stated that Marika separated the realm of shadow from the lands between). I think that Melina (Miquella) wants to burn the Erdtree to be able to access the land of shadow again. She specifically says after talking to Enia about burning the Erdtree: "I know... I'm asking you to commit a cardinal sin. But it must be done to reach the path beyond. And that is the path I wish to travel." She also says "This world is in dire need of repair... and Death... indiscriminate...", and when she's burning she says that "The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death." This also maybe relates to Miquella wanting Godwyn to "die a true death". He doesn't want him to be reborn by the Erdtree, he wants him to be able to die instead.

I was always under the impression that Melina was a supressed or sealed version of The Gloam Eyed Queen. Or in some way associated with The Gloam Eyed queen. But I guess this kinda makes more sense. I would also like to add another thing to your theory, that when Miquella was fusing himself with the Haligtree I believe that it was only Miquella who is being assimilated leaving Melina. But of course Mogh-lester had to butt in and ruin the ritual somehow, which led to Melina having full control of the body from that point on or maybe even have her own body, or be part spirit part physical? Either way, the ritual went wrong which lead to Miquella somehow ending up in the Shadow lands, his physical body being in Mogh's egg, and Melina bodyless just wandering the lands between.

Mogh praying to the hand doesn't mean it is Miquella, especially if it's being hinted that it is a conduit to the shadowlands. He's possibly attempting to communicate through it.

Saint Trina's Torch and Melina's 'Lord of Frenzy Ending' appearance are an amazing example of this theory, which I heavily agree with. (schizos come one, come all) The marking on both of their faces is almost identical, especially with Melina's eye open. When opened, the marking is completely faded but the imprint is still there, kind of like a scar which looks much more like the mark on the torch. Also, with speculation of Melina (and of course with this theory, St. Trina as well) being the Gloam-Eyed Queen it would make sense to understand the definition of Gloam: "twilight, dusk" or "the time of day following sunset." This just lines up far too well with the heavy implication of St. Trina and their correlation with sleep.

Also take into account melina's speech the last time you speak with her on the frenzied flame endings where she talks about "however mired and tormented this world is, life endures, birth continues, isnt there beauty in this notion" pretty sure thats the type of stuff youd expect coming out of someone trying to create a world where everything can flourish

I am SO glad someone put a video out on this. I honestly was thinking Melina might be St.Trina after my first two play throughs (because she puts you to sleep and because her eye is purple, not a whole lot of evidence but ya know) but no one ever seemed to be talking about it, so I kind of thought well I'm no lore expert and dismissed it.

Melina also wears the same outfit as Millicent. Millicent is an aspect of Melania, so maybe further proof Melina may be the equivalent for her brother.

Dude I was thinking the same thing because the intro of the game really makes it seem like Torrent and Melina have that bond as master and servant. Another thing that I noticed was that Miquella/Melina don't have that same bright shock of red hair that Radagon/Ranni/Radahn have which made me think they're either tied to the Gloam Eyed Queen (which seems like a red herring) or they're someone in disguise.
