Being serious. This is one of the best channels to come to and just experience places you’re most unlikely to visit. It’s just true peace watching Shieys videos. We appreciate what you do everyday.
for people wondering: this is ACE high nato base in the italian alps. it was in use till the 90s. used for radio communication with distances going 4000 km.
beg to specify. This particular ACE High base is not in the alps but the Northern Appennine Mountains. Its called Monte Giogo and the city Shiey looks at in the distance is La Spezia :)
If I remember correctly this particular base is still used by the local radio amateur club for their experiments. Ace high base looks all pretty similar and are scattered from Iceland to turkey. I had IDGZ close to my hometown and was lucky to explore it before was trashed by vandals, the engine and radio comms where still there, then they stolen even the fences. Still worth a visit since is located at 2100m.
I can't help but smile at these three wholesome boys enjoying themselves and each other, they really have a great friendship dynamic. Perfect vibes for the vid
I've been watching you for years, and I still get so excited everytime you upload. I started when you had a small following, you never ever showed your face, and barely spoke. Being here for this journey amazes me, knowing no matter how hard a platform tries to take you off, you still upload your adventures. I love it, stay safe out there
@@N8forest you should check out Oscars Borg Fortress in the Oslo Fjord! I live in the town next to it called Drøbak. It’s really famous for defending Norway during ww2 and you can still see the canons that fired upon the German task forces arriving to capture Oslo!
2 things to always remember - 1. asbestos is everywhere in these older buildings - learn how to identify it, it is fine when it is solid but when it is broken up into bits it is extremely dangerous. 2. Never walk in front of any form of semi-modern panel antenna or link dish unless you know it is 100% off.......otherwise over the next 10 years you will get irreversible lung cancer and brain tumors from RF exposure. Perhaps both. Love your content, just giving you a heads up because sleeping in these "dusty" buildings that look harmless is actually very dangerous.
Noo, RF is perfectly safe. The cell phones in our pockets definitely aren't slowly mutating the DNA of our testicles giving us cancer and reducing testosterone levels.
This is completely wrong. RF freqencies dont tear cells and DNA like gama radiation does. It can only heat and couse burns in the worst case scenario. Microwave oven uses that principle to cook food.
Checkmate seems like such a chill down-to-earth individual. Silent and gets shit done, not to forget the climbing he's capable of. Mad respect, such a groupmate is invaluable in tough situations.
Thank you, Shiey, for going to places most of us cannot go, climbing things even less of us dare to approach, and showing the world these historically significant, though forgotten places with unfathomable grace.
Its crazy seeing this channel grow, the editing getting better and such simple scenes getting so cinematic, the friendships and the bonds. Ive been watching this channel for a few years and im just speechless.
Yeah I’ve watched a bunch of these nato sites, even on other urbex channels and this is the one I’d choose to see. Dunno if I’d climb the whole way up these dishes but I would definitely do a little bit. View from the ground is still amazing.
Man I really wish I wasn't so afraid of heights. I'm deathly afraid.. to the point where I start shaking and sweating profusely. I've tried many times to climb up on high places and my body just doesn't allow me to. It's wild how much of a mental hurdle it is, but I just can't seem to overcome it. It's nice living vicariously through you though, you've got some balls of steel and you really push me to get out and explore more. Even if it's just in my neighborhood, exploring is such a blissful and brain healthy thing to do and I can't appreciate you enough for the content that you put out for us!
You’re probably so afraid of heights because it’s your survival instincts telling you to avoid danger by climbing dangerous stuff . You probably got acrophobia, a version of an evolutionary survival mechanism. Normally people don’t want to put themselves into dangerous situations unless there is some type of reason as in they are getting paid to do it , or it’s in their line of work or something .
Done a lot of exploring in my day, from deep forest winter treks and abandoned places to backpacking through LA for over a month sleeping outside. I don't explore anymore but i'm glad channels like yours exist. I enjoy yours the most though.
I love this channel. Thank you Shiey, you been here over the last 3 years when I found you and it never gets old man. Feel like you all are friends of mine living your lives out there! I can’t do what you all do because of medical and financial reasons but you do it for me and I thank you all for brining all of us along I mean it. Thank you.
Shoutout to Shiey for sharing his incredible experiences traveling and seeing the sights most people wouldn’t see. A true meaning to the word “exploration”.
Shiey, first off, love your videos (which youve heard a thousand times so I wont drag on). Anyway I wanted to say its very refreshing to see content so down-to-earth and authentic. You live an awesome life and I want to thank you for putting in the effort to share it with us. Blessings from Iowa!
I love the respectful kindness, support and friendship between Shiey, Matt and Checkmate ! The kind of cool relationship everyone wants to have with friends !
Love your stuff, those moments of sheer bliss you have on your journeys reaches your viewers. I legitimately am able to relax while viewing, I get to see places I won't ever visit through your eyes. Keep bringing us along just keep yourself safe along the way. Take care brotha.
Shiey cures my depression. Shiey is the reason I don’t run away. Shiey is also the reason I’m confident I’d be better off running away. I love shiey. I’m a fanboy and am obsessed with him.
Nice visit! These are ACE High (Allied Command Europe Hiband) relay stations, unfortunately these aren't particularly rare - there's over 90 of them, but still nice to see one I've not personally visited. Despite them being superceded by satellite systems in the late 80's, some are still in amazing original condition. One I've visited still has computers, offices etc all with original equipment in place.
your videos are awesome Shiey! I'm in the hospital getting chemotherapy for cancer right now, and your videos are keeping me happy. Thanks bro! Hi from Texas
Those sites were part of the "Allied Command Europe Highband" ore "ACE High" for short. Basically a wireless communications network using high power transmitters and big antennas to cover vast distances.
Shiey you don't know how much i appreciate your videos. Been quite down lately although people don't even know that because i am a good actor and hide how i truly feel. Anyway videos like yours cheer me up and chill me at the end of a stressful day. Thanks. 🎉
not even sure youll see this but, been watching you for a couple of years and i just want to say i appreciate the content you upload and its always brought me peace of mind when ive had none or needed it the most. i hope you stay safe and continue to seek the thrills of life :)
Context: This is the NATO radar base Monte Giogo located in Italy between Modena and the sea. It was used as a radar station in the cold war to detect any incoming Sowiet bombers or missiles. After the invention of submarime based and hypersonic missiles, it got outdated because it wouldn't have been fast enough to detect them.
i would like to mention something odd, if you listen closely when he is near these antennas you can hear interference on the camera mic, even though it would (probably?) be shielded. but just speculation
Amazing as always! Thank you shiey, for bringing us along and for teaching me to enjoy the time alone with myself, I've went to many new places and experienced many different things, because I was inspired from you. Keep doing what makes you feel free, we love it!
dude your mic setup is so crisp and clear.. literally the asmr experience you will not get from any other channel.. Love the vids lately and always, can't wait for the next surf
Found your channel been watching all your videos. Thank you for getting to see some beautiful country. Your travels are amazing not a care in the world. Just making the best of what you have. Keep on the great videos. Be safe.
Another awesome video man...I definitely took my time watching this one. You got yourself a good group to go with and your videos are absolutely a rewatch. Keep the content coming man... It's a good day when you got something new but even check out your older stuff... All great content! Just settling down for a rewatch of your pripyat videos... Can't wait for more... 👋 From Los Angeles
Hello again Shiey! I've once commented on your video saying I rarely leave a comment but I've decided to change my habit and make it my "new tradition" to leave few words from me here. Just watched the video and as always it took me to a better place - world of a real freedom, not its ilusion. Thank you again for ,,taking us" with you on a journey. The serenity of these hills, these clouds and these colours... what a beautiful place ! I am so glad that I could see it and get a feel of this place and that's thanks to your ability to capture this unreal feeling - it makes your videos like a mirror to the only real and true world... 💙 Greetings from fellow ,,wild cat soul" ;)
I know Shiey is Pro in climbing etc...But Checkmate?I think safe to say, never judge a book by its cover . Btw: its good to see three friends haveing fun.
When you upload a video, i don't click on it immediately. I notice a new vid. Remember it and when i feel like i have the time to truly watch ur video with all my attention, only then i will watch it. You deserve all the credits Shiey!
Been watching your channel for like 3 years now. Always entertaining and sometimes I'm like you're crazy. I enjoy the scenery in a similar way you do. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us .
You’re a great creator and a hell of an adventurer I hope one day I can say I’ve explored half as much as you in my life keep exploring and hopefully one day I can too
i'm always happy to see a new shiey vid. not just because of the extremely interesting locales and adventures, but also as a way of knowing that shiey made it thru at least *one* more adventure safe and sound. i know the point of all of it isn't pure adrenaline thrillseeking, but seeing the gopros of the crew teetering on rusting soviet era architecture definitely gives me major pucker factor! safe travels, friend!
Man your channel just fills in parts of my day perfectly so I don't feel bored. absolutely amazing and beautiful scenery and places. Stay safe and keep being curious!
I don't think this base was used for SATCOM, it looks more like a tropospheric scattering array. They basically bounce the radio signals off of the outer edge of the troposphere (the lowest layer of the atmosphere).
Very nice view, been climbing stuff myself for about a year, I’m 18. Only from a small town and don’t do much travelling so I’m pretty limited, but the plains allow for great sunsets. Had the courage to solo climb a cellphone tower not to long ago, there wasn’t a ladder, rather X shapes supports which made it a bit of a mish to climb. Ur a true inspiration to me. Stay balanced. ❤️
It's good to see you well bud you made my day releasing a video I need to get lost right about now lol keep up the work my dude I been a fan for many years stay safe Brother.
Wow this looks absolutely amazing! Love watching your videos , huge fan here from USA Florida , thanks for what you do Shiey. Congrats on the new music 🎶
