Missy, your story is so inspiring. It’s amazing how you got your kids back full-time by waiting on the Lord’s timing. That gives people hope when they are waiting on the Lord timing for something in their life.

I LOVE how you handled the situation with your 16 year old when he thought he was an adult! Your testimony is amazing, and I'm so grateful you were able to find your way back home to the loving arms of our Savior.

Missy, I can relate to much of your story but the part that resonated the most was about not pressuring your son who doesn't want anything to do with the Church at this time. You said you "just love him". I can tell you that this is what my mother did for me and was a big part of my returning to the Church. Thank you for telling your story.

For empathy, though fragile in its grace, Holds the power to heal, to erase. It bridges the gap between our hearts, In moments of darkness, it imparts. So, I shall fight against the raging tide, Embracing empathy, I will not hide. Though wavering at times, I will be strong, Finding solace in the understanding song. For even when demons clamor loud, I know empathy can break through the shroud. It binds us together and helps us mend, A force capable of bringing darkness to an end. So, let empathy be my guiding light, A beacon of hope in the darkest night. With it, I’ll navigate this troubled shore, And find my way to peace once more. Omg our drug and alcohol story’s are almost identical. Both of my parents were addicts. Those of us recovering addicts know what that statistic means. After 40 years of being out of control my last DUI .386 and wrecked my Jeep with my 4 year old granddaughter in the car. That was DUI number 5 and 3 within the last 3 months. Thank god it wasn’t just a fender bender and no one was injured. That was my wake up call. The 3 months in jail helped too. While in AA they suggest praying to our higher power whomever that was. So for the first time since leaving the church at 15 I had a sincere heartfelt crying uncontrollable prayer with my Heavenly Father. Eight years later I’m active in church I’m awaiting my Patriarchal Blessing next week. My wife that stayed with for some reason and I have never been happier. Life is great thanks to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I love the direction the Church has gone under the leadership of our current Living Prophet. Daily repentance and our fellowship with the LGBTQ community. Jesus taught us to love all. Amen. (Sorry I went in to long)

Thank you Missy. I’m the one that needed to hear your story. I’m at the beginning of a path of addiction and despair with my adult child. I hope the she will have the courage to embrace the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ sometime in the future. I listened for the choices your parents made because none of mine seem to be right - nothing seems to make a difference. You gave the answer - it’s so simply to just keep loving and trust the plan. Healthcare is in turmoil and the jobs are going to continue changing for decades. I hope one of those changes lands you in a better position.

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m bawling listening to your gratitude for the Savior. I never became addicted to anything. I never lost my testimony. But I was willfully disobedient to the commandments. I knew better. I’m so amazed that the Savior has not denied me one blessing once I decide to repent. I too didn’t feel worthy, but we all know where that came from. Satan is so good at what he does. Thank you for your testimony on timing. I so needed that today. ❤️ The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most amazing gift.

I have a hard time understanding how this propensity and repetitive behavior happened. Starting with the high school drinking. My friends who went head on into this behavior after being raised in the church usually hit a trigger after having an experience of molestation or something and after puberty they got triggers. I had a friend who was triggered with what turned out to be a Priest Quorum Advisor trying to get his trust and get him into a relationship. He ran away from it and the church. I didn't know about all that until he was in his 40s. He had never discussed what happened to him and went down the addiction and behavior path for decades. It sounds like he parents were fine. Was there somebody else or DNA propensity to go against authority or church teachings? I'm a little lost on what the triggers are.

Read the Gospel of John, fast and pray. Ask the Jesus of the Bible if He alone is true, or if the jesus of the BOM is true.
