That is a rare set! great job keeping it alive. it does look a touch washed out (at least the recording of it on RU-vid does), like maybe the screen voltage is too high. That would also cause it to look "softer" as you mentioned. Is it a hot chassis?

Save your crocodile leads, use a resistor in series.
