As this 320 sqm new build comes to a close, we test the heat pump and heating system.
With the temperature outside dropping to 5 degrees we had the flow temperature set to just 35 degrees and the internal ambient temperature showed amazing results.
Often we are asked, can a heat pump deal with all of the heating and hot water for my home, will I need back up, shall I keep my boiler just in case; This really does showcase what a heat pump can achieve, the importance of insulation for heat retention, great design and a fantastic installation of the entire heating system.

I have an 11.2kW Ecodan which was running for two years in Weather Compensation mode till Oct'23. Because it is a linear curve it never worked well because I always had to intervene once room temperature was reached by dialling down the curve by a few degrees to enable longer runs. Since the beginning of Oct'23 I switched to fully automatic (target room temp/auto adaptive) mode. After 3 months I'm amazed how much difference it has made - at least 15% better COP with like for like room/outside temps, and I have checked and double checked these results so many times now. The operation of the heat pump is so much better "managed", with more gentle startups (not so much initial power spiking), lower flow temps, longer run times, and better management of the effect of defrosting in really cold temps. You can clearly see in MelCloud how flow temps are modulated automatically as target room temp is achieved and then maintained for the longest possible runs at the lowest flow temps. Best news is that I don't have to intervene at all now - I can just leave it to do its thing all the time. Very impressed indeed with this superb piece of software from Mitsubishi.

It would be great if you could go through the settings of the Ecodan. I have a 14kW and I’d like to see if the system is set up right as I don’t trust the installation eng.

No problem Damien, I can get that done for you. Do you have a Mitsubishi cylinder??
@damiendoyle
@damiendoyle Год назад
@@dorewoodman no I don’t. We have a Joule 495 l installed. Our house is about 500m squared. I’m also confused by the manifolds being installed. Mitsubishi say leave the Heat Pump on 24/7 yet they installed Heatmiser to control each room, which is more eco friendly. Personally our electricity is cheaper from 12am to 9am so we try to only run it then. Our HW is set to 55c but allows a maximum drop as it’s measured on the bottom of the tank and still leave’s enough hot water at the top for showers, we do this to cut down the amount of time the heat pump cuts in and out during summer which I hope is saving money. Do you ever come to Dublin for a working holiday? It would be great sometime to get it all fixed up properly.

thanks Jason been following the videos and have a few questions about the controller, already have the cylinder with the wifi so my questions are can i use the app as the controller and a wireless heatmiser wireless rather than the ftc06 controller? thanks Simon
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
Hi Simon, thank you for watching. You can use the MELCloud app for thermostat control if you use the mitsubishi controller as a stat or the wireless mitsubishi controller. The only way to use the Heatmiser through an app would be to also install the NeoHub and download Heatmiser App. Do you have a Heatmiser just dealing with one zone?

The 14kW has been recommended by our installers on a 3 stories 200m2 property (ground, first and second floors). The aim is to get 24 degrees all around. I am wondering if they have oversized. I am also wondering if our electric bill is going to bankrupt us.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
That all depends on the fabric of the building, does it have filled cavity wall, high levels of insulation in the loft, good quality double glazed windows etc. What types of radiators do you have, are they appropriately sized? To try and achieve 24 degrees will be a challenge and extremely expensive, is there any reason for such a high internal temperature?
@DragonXDrei
@DragonXDrei Год назад
@@dorewoodman Built is 2003/2004 so it has all the insulation it came with, plus loft and double glaze. The 24 degrees is pretty much what we always had using our gas boiler, between 22 and 24, the upstairs would always be 24+ as the hot air rose then won't go anywhere. Wondering if this will be the same. The radiators have all been removed and new ones specced for the rooms, had a full heat loss assessment.
@DragonXDrei
@DragonXDrei Год назад
I guess the bottom line is, do heat pumps generate as much heat as gas boilers and will it cost the same for achieving the temperature you were used to.

I got this pump about a month ago. Outdoor average temp has been around 0 degrees celcius. It only has COP 2 which is frankly terrible. It's also very noisy.

We usually install the Viessmann or Vaillant heat pumps but Mitsubishi has tapped me up for a demo day. Unsure whether to bother or not. How do the ecodans compare to the German Vs?

Ry makes a good point. We install Vaillant also, 140 years developing heating products and the quality of the product is exceptional, however, in some environments, particularly in the retro fit market, fitting the Vaillant products can be more complicated. Definitely worth looking at the Mitsubishi as an alternative, single fan units up to 11.2kw, no buffer required, on the control it is only up to 2 zones but can easily configure a solution for more if required and the outdoor sensor is attached the to heat pump. Not has the pleasure of Viessmann for heat pumps, how do they fair? Are they away from R410a?
@rymoe6299
@rymoe6299 Год назад
@@dorewoodman I wanted a daikin as I done there training back in 2011. Long left the game now. My fitter (long time Freind) been using CTC and Mitsubishi He said about the 7 yr parts and labour warranty on the Valiant was good 👍🏻 He also said Mitsubishi were not the best for technical or asking to deviate from there recommended designs. (Very experienced commercial installer Biomass etc etc) CTC we’re apparently amazing and would even support and warranty the support my solid fuel wet heating link up however becoming way over priced. I’ve lost count of the amount of people looking for help and repairs on ASHP manufactures such as Samsung LG etc where there is in installers to support these products. Any way I’ve settled for a Mitsubishi 8.5kW with there pre plumbed cylinder but also adding a small buffer to aid defrost. Love this Channel Dore Woodman 👊🏻👍🏻

Stick to a manufacturer where by you can get parts! And there are already F gas engineers specialising in air conditioning etc. Your customers will also be able to get a fix even if Have to contact and air conditioning company Grant hitachi Worcester bosch etc Are all just experimenting!!!!!! With your customers and using your reputation to support them! Worcester bosch jumped on the solid fuel market the other year What a complete disaster There just buying crap and rebranding it There new outdoor unit looks like a scrapped old washing machine

@@dorewoodman Yeah viessmann are on r290 now with the latest units. What about running variable temperature circuits with the Mitsubishi units? Could we have a rad circuit and a ufh circuit running different flow temps and different curves and what additional mitsi hardware do you need to buy to achieve it if possible i.e Like with Viessmann you buy an EmM1 module to run each mixer.

Hey guys, please can you to advise whether the noise coming from my Ecodan is normal/close to normal? It's an 11.2kw model just been installed, and I don't know if there are grounds to complain or if this is normal when running a little harder. It was flowing at around 45c at time of the video, to heat the hot water tank. Video on my channel.

@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 6 месяцев назад
@@Rusteh100 should really be done to the installation company as you would need to isolate the electricity to the outdoor unit and remove the panel to the right of the fan as you look at the machine. There are some labels inside the machine where the compressor sits that instruct where the packaging sits, if the labels are still there, there is a good chance the packaging is too.
