Mizuno JPX923 Forged vs JPX923 Hot Metal Pro
Both Irons are the very much so a bridging set where golfers look at going either way depending on many different aspects of their game. Some need the extra help and think about moving to the Hot Metal, some want as much help as possible but want to know if they can get away with the Forged.
Which is more Forgiving, which launches the ball higher?

Once again, another excellent comparison review! Thanks for doing this one, nobody does the testing like you do or gives the information and detail that matters to most of us. You also make it entertaining and interesting. We appreciate you for listening to us when we tell you what we’d like to see. I can’t imagine how it could be done better. Thanks again for all you’re doing! 🏌

I find this channel as one of the best evidence based in depth analysis of different golf clubs. One to one comparisons are very effective for amateur golfers to understand the differences and similarities. I would love a one to one analysis between JPX 923 Forged and T150, if this is possible. I've tried the Mizuno 923 forged and hot metal and liked them both. I wound up buying a set of Mizuno 921 SEL (since I'm left handed) and love them and the more traditional lofts!

Again an excellent,relevant thorough test - thanks. I can definitely testify to the 923 HMP's forgiveness. I sometimes have what feels like terrible mishits, and i just don't pay the bill - the HMP's saves my behind almost every time 😍. It sometimes almost feels a bit like cheating 😅 There is plenty good feel in these, and I love the looks and forgiveness, so I'm happy to leave the Forged to the überconsistent ballstrikers for marginally nicer feel but less forgiveness - for my game it's HMP 😃
@MrMatthew262
@MrMatthew262 Год назад
Thanks for review. Your findings seem exactly in line with the engineering and marketing of the two clubs. Forged is for the better player who wants some of the technology of the hot metal line but in a players package. The HMP is perfect for the middle handicapper who wants a better looking and feeling GI iron. Both great options from Mizuno. I’m one of those with my game on the fence of both of these irons so very hard to make a decision 😅 I’m actually similar to what you mentioned how I prefer a more compact blade than the HMP because it seems narrowed focus on making good contact, but the forgiveness and ease of play of the HMP are hard to ignore. it’s still a very nice shape for a GI iron.

Thank you Jay! Very grateful for how you put so much thought and effort into providing the most helpful and thorough information your subscribers need when looking to make a choice between these two irons. Looks like a couple of incredible irons from Mizuno either way. Very impressed with the slightly higher peak height and steeper decent angle on the HMP with the 1.5-degree stronger loft. Same standard deviation on carry and very close standard deviation on total distance. Still very good spin and combine that with the edge on forgiveness (and great feel for a game improvement iron) I'm happy to have my choice of JPX923 HMP confirmed for what I was looking for in an iron. I have a request. The Srixon ZX MKII utility iron ("2" iron with 18-degree loft) is getting a lot of high marks in reviews. I would be very interested if you compared that Srixon to the JPX923 HMP and HM 4 iron (19-degree loft so only 1 degree weaker than the Srixon). I think a lot of JPX923 owners (or considering buying) would be interested as well.

Hi Mark, generally worries me how many golfers still buy 4 irons and less when most don't have the speed to make them functional. Really only very very few golfers have the speed to use them properly or have specific requirements for use of them. I can remember reviewing the Mizuno Pro Fli Hi 2 iron. That thing was an utter monster but had zero chance of going into a par 5 green with any form of understanding where it would end 😊 a pattern unfortunately with irons that have now been basically redesigned as only real use from the tee 😕 Thanks for your very kind words and feedback 👍

Another outstanding review! I went with the Forged. Easy to adjust loft and lie being forged with better feel and looks! Forgiving for a single billet forged iron. In my experiences cast clubs rarely ever come out exact specs from production and after bending (if they don’t crack) go back to the original specs.

Jay…in the States, Miz has improved hitting their own lie* specs considerably. I measure every head and every set I receive. Given the depth of your data, you might include :…lie*; total club weight ; and SW in your test club specs. Further, if you want to understand the ‘swinging ‘ differences, get a Golf Mechanix MOI unit which measures rotational differences, and is essentially length squared X mass (g). Given your desire for 2* up, vs what your hitting…I’d expect to see hard draws with std lie*…vs 2* up. But no…in the hole ! Awesome ( assuming the lie * is std at 61.5*)…

I am 66 years old and my swing speed is slow. I bought a set of Hot Metal Pros with Modus 105 shafts and simply could not hit them. I changed the shafts to DG 95 and I could hit them much better, but I was still having trouble getting the 6 iron (25 degrees of loft) in the air and some problems with the 7 iron too. I read in many articles that strong lofted irons are not for slow swing speed players. So I got rid of the Pros and got a set of 223 instead. I could not be happier. I hit them very well despite my slow speed and find them very forgiving.

Very much so, in having to manipulate delivery to try and hit target. By bending then to suit I could then swing normally and gain a little extra in consistency 👍 saying that though at my speed having a 28.5 degree 7 iron would mean larger than ideal distance gaps so I'd go Forged and even then possibly with weakened lofts 👍

Jay, I saw the JPX 923 Hot Metal Pro stops at the PW which is at 42.5 degrees of loft. If I wanted to add another pitching wedge and a gap wedge, would you lean towards the JPX 923 Forged or New S23 wedges? Which of those 2 options is more forgiving in the PW & GW ? Thanks, Joe
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
Hi Joe, really at this amount of loft, the physical loft is the most forgiving part. Some people still pedal the myth surrounding bladed wedges being hard to hit and leff forgiving than cavity back wedges..... Where in essence due to the high lofts the left right stability that a traditional game improvement design gives actually works more in the vertical plane, this then nullifies it's very purpose. I'd personally go for which one you need strike point wise (S23 has a much more centred middle where other wedges tend to be heel biased) 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
@joelane2845

@@AskGolfNut Thank you Jay! I am 70 yrs age and playing for 50years and with my old mizuno mp60 irons have proble s with 5 iron though perhaps due to lack confidence as seldom seem to give it sucha good swing as with shorter clubs. Thinking of getting jpx 923 forged irons but pity cant try 5 iron. I seem to hit 7 iron around 15yrds further with jpx 923 forged compared to old mizuno mp60 using 7 iron.

4120 chromoly is a much tougher material less prone to cracking. My guess is they can use a much thinner face and create more of a trampoline effect from the face without it cracking. They probably don't do it with the shorter irons because distance control would be more uniform with the thicker faced 1025.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
That and loft deflection becomes the biggest driving factor in the technology not working to propel the ball forward than just upwards. What would be interesting is if they can make these new Chromoly materials as crazy springy as they are but then coat them with copper underlay to gain some nice feel.... Saying that, no one needs any excuses to raise prices any more 😊🤦😊

@AskGolfNut

Hi Nate, thanks for the comment. Flying the green by that amount I bet is more than mildly frustrating. Good news is that its not a massively expensive problem to fix as it's not an equipment issue (so no need to purchase brand new clubs 😊). This amount can only be from either strike based differences or delivered loft differences, or a mix of both. If you have a video of your swing, one from down the line and one face on view and you email it to askgolfnut@gmail.com I'd be happy to give it a once over to see if there are any glaringly obvious things you should know 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
