Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal Pro Irons Review Forgiveness and Looks in ONE, can it be true that you can have most of the looks of a Players iron but in the body of a Game Improvement club? The Hot Metal Pro takes on this difficult task, slightly strong lofted for added distance yet smaller top lines, sole thickness, blade length and Offset gives it a different appeal to a different golfer.

That 19° 4 iron is an old skool 2 iron. I use Mizuno MP20 HMB's PW to 16° 2 iron, which is really a 1 iron. I only play irons as they're fitted to me and I find them easier to use than hybrids or woods. Ive always been able to use long irons and find them more accurate. After 20+ years of playing and wanging drivers and 3 woods into oblivion Ive embraced my limitations and use just irons. Good to have you back !

I've just started playing with these, I've still got my Zx7's but between the two: there is approx 5mph ball speed increase for me over the ZX7 equating to 10-15 yard increase; height is a very consistent 100ft, 15ft higher than the ZX7; feel is pleasantly better than I thought, short irons are a really nice shape but a bit hot, def need a full forged head in a 48*. Overall they are an excellent set of clubs for most level of golfer, for the price they are a steal.

Why do you need a forged gap wedge instead of the set gap wedge ?

Great review. Imagine that 4 iron lofted down 2 degrees, half inch longer...you've built yourself a monster off the tee!!
@connorbatts5598

In Colorado there is a bunch of tee boxes that are elevated in the wind above the fairway. Winds ripping at like 25 mph. The 4 iron is great to keep it relatively low and rolling. A wood or hybrid just dies in the air with no rollout.

Absolutely there is the place for the longer iron in certain high handicapper bags, when golfers, reduce in handicap and they learn the skill of dynamic loft delivery, they can then flight any club regardless of CG placement. It's another thing that golfers learn down the line.... 👍🏻👍🏻

Glad mizuno are now making clubs that last more than 2 seasons, so many sets lofts and lies all mixed up and dinged to death, these look great

Really like your approach to reviewing ❤😊 Would love to see the HMP’s compared to forged alternatives like Cobra Forged Tec or Callaway Apex - or even JPX 921 Forged. Particularly from a feel vs forgiveness perspective.

I love my current 21 degree 4 iron as it is one of my go to clubs. I do have a #3 19 degree that I like too but the shorter shaft of the 4 iron would be great in a 19 degree iron. My concern with the JPX 923 HMP is stopping power but a high 40’s descent angle would be great as you were getting on a 7 iron.

Choke down the 3i ~~ 1/2” and hit compare. I have no one hitting a 3i, except in the older HMB head model. The Miz Pro FliHi with heavily weighted and wider sole in a Hzrdus 80g/6.0 graphite is working well for many.

No problem stopping my 921 HMP. Absolutely addictive irons. One hop and dead stop is the name of the game. I have no problem getting very good spin out of them.

Thanks for this 👍 Looking forward to Jpx 921 HM range tested against these new ones. I’m currently in jpx 921 HM and looking to see if worth upgrading. I’m just worried about the stronger lofts on these new ones but I assume with the new thinner face and weight changes the decent angles will compensate? Will see I guess. Thanks again

Great review! Going to be checking out the 923 and 923 Pro soon. Do you know how these compare in head length to something like the Ping G425? Significant difference?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
Not really as the G425 went under the knife compared to previous models. So head size should be quite comparable. Pro will have the least offset and better looks of all of them though 👍
@De4dpool
@De4dpool Год назад
I had the same question so measured the blade length of my G425 7 iron, which is 90mm, the HM Pro is 80.7mm, so approx 9.3 mm shorter.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
Just now editing the G425 against 923 HM review. Even looking at them right now and there's not much visible differences between the HM and G425. The Pro has sleeker looks so will look a touch smaller in all dimensions but it's not something which is an eye watering difference...... To my old eyes anyway 😊

@sloswingspeed9535
@sloswingspeed9535 Год назад
Craig…’a lot of fliers/hot shots’.. is not data based. ie… yardage, dispersion etc. face impact location when that occurs ?… etc. watching AGN videos, and he’s a really good ball striker, he has some heel, toe impacts too…Vosh has excellent descriptive head tech discussions on MyGolfSpy as well and speaks to head design, relating to MOI across the face, high toe down to low heel, as being areas Miz collected Optimizer data, and have redesigned the 923 face to compensate. So I can’t offer more. I have a Miz fitting cart.. I see longer, straighter, higher ball flights on ‘nutted’ shots. Use average data for suggested gapping etc. AKN’s hitting videos are excellent, IMO. TXG/Vosh present sound info and feedback. I enjoy AKN.
@craigtalbot9316
@craigtalbot9316 Год назад
@@sloswingspeed9535 I enjoy it too, I'm merely coming from first hand experience where I find some shots nearly every round I play coming off 20 years longer/hotter than usual. TXG, AGN all these channels are first class, I merely asked a question due to what I find with my current set 🤷‍♂️

Great reviews 👌🏼 I got fit by Mizuno only a month ago for 921 HM Pro and thankfully held off as I figured this was around the corner. Should I bother to get another fit or am I right to take my specs and order the 923 based on the previous fitting with 921? Thanks keep up the great content

923 Pros are .5 loft stronger. The head weights are the same. The FIT is a shaft match. Up to you but I wouldn’t do another fit. I’m in the process of putting new 923 Pros on an existing set of SF fc80f4( S) shafts.

Really looking hard at these. I've been playing with a used set of MX200 irons for years, and I feel like it's time for an upgrade. My only concern is going from a forged iron, which I love, to a cast iron. I have a JPX800 4 iron that I added after the fact years ago, and just don't like the feel of it. Now I probably don't strike it as well as my higher lofted irons, which could make a difference. Nothing feels as good as puring a forged iron and feeling like you didn't even hit the ball. Any thoughts?

You won't miss your forged irons with the added forgiveness. I made the same move(but went to pxg) and I don't miss my forged mizunos at all. You'll be psyched at the stopping power on greens with the descent angle and you'll be so excited about the ability to control them and... They still feel great.

If you order the Hot Metal Pros 1/2" longer and 1-degrees flat, Gap Wedge to 6iron, you will basically get a near-perfect set of modern irons that covers the very traditional 48-degree wedge to 25-degree almost 4iron. The 1/2" longer will bring the Hot Metal Pro 33-degree 8-iron up to the spec of a 37" 7iron with the commensurate 7-iron loft of 33-degrees (it will just say 8-iron on the club)

@@sloswingspeed9535 they have lighter heads that they use to mitigate some of this - and you can also just add a slightly heavier grip - but yes, overall weight will increase - I use a Mid Sized Plus 4 Align grip so it is never a problem for me

@@bradleystuart8608 you are correct - except I think they make it as a GW for both sets - like they did with earlier models - and when you look at the club's offset @ 0.098 it falls right in line with what you'd expect if it was the Pro version. I actually have the 919 version, which was 50-degrees, I bent it to 52, and it made for a fantastic club around the green as it has a really nice wider grind & bounce

Hmmm more like players distance / game improvement. Players distance are irons with semi traditional lofts for players, that, already have a certain amount of speed, some forgiveness in the head although not as much as Game Improvement irons so the player still needs to do a decent job of hitting somewhere middle 👍🏻
