MIZZOU is a BROKEN FOOTBALL Program… (What Has Gone Wrong?)

For the better part of the 21st century, Mizzou football has been a winning program and nationally known. This narrative began to change after Gary Pinkel retired and after a hot start in the SEC, the Tigers have cooled down and the program has been on the downfall ever since. This has become evidently clear over the last two seasons and things seemingly are getting worse. Today, we will talk about the downfall of Mizzou football, enjoy!

As a dawg fan… we’re the dumpster fire. Great showing from the tigers last night. I promise you there isn’t an honest UGA fan out there that woke up this morning thinking last night felt like a win. This feels like a heartbreaking loss. Y’all should’ve won that game. Good luck on the rest of the season.

Agreed. I don’t want to take anything away from Mizzou. They played their butts off for 3 quarters. Dawgs just have more depth and that’s the only reason we won. Mizzou out schemed and out coached us. We just had the depth in the 4th quarter to eek by. Good luck on the rest of the season Mizzou!

People are overreacting IMO. We had 3 chances to win this game since the last 1:30 of the 4th Q. We are still transitioning the roster and are missing a D1 QB. I think Cook is a great kid and Im rooting for him, but he doesnt have the arm to make us competitive in the SEC. The OL doesnt do him any favors, either. Drinkwitz's job is to put the team in a position to win. We were in that position several times. Auburn looked terrible for 3 quarters of the game and that was no accident. The biggest issue with Drink is all of the god forsaken penalties, which 100% land on coaching.
@BigDog-zk8pr
@BigDog-zk8pr Год назад
@@elliott8833 agreed, we had the whole second half to win because our defense was shutting them down, and penalties ultimately gave Auburn their only chances in the second half. Coaching does play a role in penalties, but not when it comes to in game. I played with several guys that would do sprints until we tired of watching them for all of the dumb penalties they had. Coaching will help with discipline, but when it comes to the snap of the ball, its the decision and mindset of the player that decides whether or not he will commit a penalty

It's the same thing that went wrong with Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers. Sometimes leaving your conference can not only make you lose how you scout players in different regions, but also loses your identity as a program. This is why I don't like the direction how college football is going. We're starting to lose that connection to the regions and the rivalries with other programs. It feels more unnecessarily conventional than a genuine process for competitive college football programs.

The decision to move to the SEC was because of money. Mizzou was losing money each year by being in the Big 12 and their uneven split on TV money (Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M got a higher share) made it difficult for the agreement to make sense. This was also around the time the Big 12 was starting to turn into a higher-profile Conference USA.

The first four years of Pinkel were atrocious. Lost to Troy State, New Mexico, Bowling Green and got bullied by Nebraska, K State, Oklahoma and Texas year in and year out. You cannot build a program overnight at Mizzou. Drink’s success on the recruiting trail makes me think brighter days are ahead. The damage done by Barry Odom in his last couple of seasons cannot be understated. But a losing season and Burden hitting the transfer portal would be a disaster and I don’t know how we’d recover.

Mizzou chocked the Auburn game 3 times. Not once, not twice but three times. Not the coaches fault, players fault. First time: Mizzou on Auburn 6 and runs clock down. Probability of making a 26 yard field goal has to be 98%. He misses it. Second Time: Over time, Auburn missed their field goal, now all Mizzou has to do is get the ball, not really have to move it much, kick a field goal and win, but nope, your dumb ass defensive tackle is off side. Third Time: Runner for Mizzou running for a TD, will make it, but for some strange reason believes he has to extend the football. Looses control, game over. It was really unbelievable. They say don't blame the players well it was THEIR FAULT.

Something that never gets mentioned is the revolving door at the AD position, which I think has hurt the football team along with men’s basketball, baseball, and ladies softball. I tend to feel like having that position stable leads to more success. As for the team, they’re only four games in, I think it’s wayyy too early to be quite this jaded about a program that’s turned it around and made bowls under Odom and Drinkwitz after really bad starts, just some food for thought. That being said, 5-7 sounds realistic to me

Same goes for Nebraska. We all should still be playing each other, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa. They listened to the media who always props up the SEC as if it's the NFL and dogged the big 12 because our offenses we're so good at running the spread (what the NFL basically is today) that every defense looked bad playing against 4 and 5 wide every play from the shotgun. And to be fair padded the offensive stats and inflated to defensive stats. But FF to today and the NFL is basically the big 12. No one is under center. QB's are passing for more yards than ever. We had a good thing here Missouri! Why did y'all have to mess it up?! The NFL doesn't look like the SEC anymore it looks like mid 2000's BIG 12 #IMISSTHEBORDERWAR

But, it's nowhere but up. It starts with a GREAT HIRE at HC. A great hire will win some with what he has AND recruit to the vision he has. Jon Smith is why we are competitive again, and that's all any of us can ask for short of Bama, Georgia, and Ohio State. So, as a Mizzu outsider, I would say a fresh start with a great hire at HC is action number 1. Easier said then done but its got to be done. Recruiting is great but gotta have x and os that work. I know I'm biased because I'm an Alabama fan but one can't help to notice that they never change uniforms. I know it's because messing with their uniforms won't win them a game! They aren't the only program who doesn't get sucked into that kind of thinking but typically those who don't are the blue bloods and they usually sit somewhere atop the polls week in and week out. Note: To be fair, I wouldn't mind seeing Bama wear their script "A" instead of the numbers on helmets for a NON-PLAYOFF bowl game at some point. I agree a lot with what you said is wrong with the team. I think the biggest issue is the same thing that was at my high school, they only expect to beat the FCS teams. I was at the K-State game getting bullied by my friends, who go to K-State. They play too timid against the good teams. When they play a low tier team they look like they are trying to make big high risk plays every down. When they play FBS, it seems like they are trying to just be safe and not mess up. The best way to sum that up is they are playing to not lose, when they should be playing to win.

I think you are right on the money. Coaching sucks, and if u don't have a leader than you can kiss your chance of winning a game good bye. I also believe it's the fan base. No fans liek mizzou not even the students. Nonetheless when we played Georgia we were almost sold out. But that's only because.....it was #1 Georgia at that time. I love mizzu football but unfortunately the way things are looking now. Mizzou will be known as the worst college football team compared next to you guessed our week 12 match-up new Mexico state. I will always be a tiger student but as a fan for athletics I choose to support a place where they actually take college sports seriously.

Mizzou should go after jacolby criswel from UNC. He will be a RS jr or RS senior so you won’t have him for long but he was a 4 star and mr Arkansas out of high school He was also beaten out by 2 generational QBs. Sam Howell who at one point was a Heisman candidate and still had an amazing junior year even though it was considered a “bad” year and literally a once in a lifetime QB in Drake Maye who will be a top 5 pick guarrenteed. As a Mizzou fan who grew up an hour south of Columbia, we have nothing in common culturally or geographically with the SEC. The whole college football realignment as everyone knows is all about money and nothing whatsoever to do with regional affiliation or rivalry. Just a really unfortunate time for Pinkel to get that horrible diagnosis that caused him to retire - truly horrible and personally ambitious chancellor and AD, threats of funding cuts from the state b/c of an election year, a bad year from a win loss perspective, and social upheaval in the state and university following Ferguson, which led to some alumni cutting support. Kind of the perfect storm. The NCAA sanctions a few years later for absolute BS was the cherry on top. Mizzou fans forget just how many bad things happened in Missouri over the last 8 years - the revenue losses to the university (which was never rich to begin with) has been a major hurdle. This goes deeper than x and o play. Only way to overcome it is with renewed investment in the university

From an ex-coaches perspective….Well, it has not been fun, but I was really impressed with the effort at Auburn….they are not the best in the SEC but they are a good football team and to go toe to toe with them at their house is encouraging. Those 2 misplays (FG and Fumble) just happen….ask any coach…when KIDS (18-22 yr olds) are trying really hard. THEN to turn around and play the number 1 team in the rankings as hard as they did….I love the team and the effort they are giving. I think with experience and seasoning things will turn around scoring wise, but they have to keep up the intensity and effort. True the QB situation needs improvement and that can come with experience or otherwise. I have coached a lot of years and many times have seen my teams or opponents get SO close to gelling and getting that all important key win that allows them to realize they can beat anyone, but they didn’t quit, worked hard and finally got that first hard win and things took off. I think this team is close and hope they get in that work and keep playing hard…they will get that win.

I mean they almost played for a national championship and now are a bottom feeder but I still haven't found one Missouri fan who would take success over the conference. I mean I get wanting to be in the sec, it's the best by far. But at what point do you start to miss the days of being a top 15 or 20 program. I realize that Missouri won the SEC East twice but that was in the first year with their big 12 talent. Man dont let us become another Nebraska. After they lost Tom Osbourne they have almost literally fallen off the face of the earth. So we had the best Coach in our schools history in Gary Pinkel the Mizzou GOAT. But it is a new era in college football and the world. Uniform combos and social media (+$$) is what gets recruits in 2022-23. Drink is young and I think he can speak to this generation. He is calling plays down to what he has at QB. I say let him have a chance to instill his culture and personality at least. I mean the last 3 years have been world changing. Drink has been here thru all of that. Let some of the recruits have a chance to make a difference. Give Drink 2-3 more years to get a QB. We're not some big money school that can afford to keep buying out millions of dollars in contracts.
