Yermin Mercedes epitomizes baseball’s version of a “Linsanity Run.”
Linsanity: “When a seemingly average, unspectacular person suddenly erupts with success and develops a ridiculous cult-like following.”
This video will cover some of the most notable instances of Linsanity in MLB’s recent history, starting with Mercedes.

I think the reason this is so much more common in MLB is because of adaptation/exposure. Guys can come into the league or season with a new approach that pitchers aren't ready for and be dominant to start until someone figures out their weakness, then every opponent begins exploiting that weakness. Happens for both pitchers and batters

I turned 14 during the 2011 World Series and I watched every Cardinals game during that post-season. I had such bad anxiety watching them but I couldn't stop. I remember sitting on the couch during the 9th inning of game 6 and was just hoping and praying David Freese would do something and he did. The next inning when Josh Hamilton hit that home run I was deflated. Later that inning when Lance Berkman came up to bat I thought the game was over but he handled his business too. By the time David Freese came up to bat the next inning I already knew what the outcome would be. The whole 2011 season and post-season was just great.

11:54 “mysteriously and for no reason at all, his home run rate ballooned” strike outs, walks, ground ball rate, fly ball rate. This is essentially what is in the pitchers control. Unless you are an extreme case like Andrew Heaney or Justin Verlander, a very high or very low HR rate that isn’t on a very high or very low fly ball rate pitcher is mostly the result of luck / random variance.

Crazy part was after the cubs traded Baez, Rizzo, Bryant that the cubs had not 1 not 2 but 3 linsanity runs at the same time! Schwsidom (Frank Schindler and Patrick wisdom) and Ortega all were batting .300. Wisdom has hit 80 home runs in the last 3 years and can’t evem see starting time anymore

Eric Thames? I remember a huge home run tear from him and then nothing else.

David Freese was traded for Jim Edmonds? I can't believe I don't remember that. But yeah, definitely greatest out-of-the-blue stretch for anyone I can think of. If he played like that for 10 regular MLB seasons, he'd be a first ballot HOF'er.

Hell, Eli’s gonna make the HOF for beating Brady twice, might as well put Freese in the Cardinals HOF.
