Okay, but to play DH in today’s game means that you have to be significantly above the average hitter to have any value. Otherwise what is the point in having a player like him? Not saying that I think he’s bad or even meh, but it would make sense if you were to say that. He’s not the type of player you would want to extend to a long contract due to batting average difficulties, so he’s destined to be a journeyman.
@longneck6456
@longneck6456 Месяц назад
I think “meh” is perfect for him, looking at his baseball reference page all of his stats are just above league average (with exception of batting average that’s below average and too many K’s) Which wouldn’t be a problem if DH/ OF wasn’t such a competitive market. I think he’s a perfectly capable Major League Baseball player but not much more. This is coming from a DIE HARD Braves fan btw.

I was at Singleton's return to Houston. They put a note in the bottom right of the scoreboard showing how long it had been sonce a home run, and congratulating him. With Jose Abreu not performing like Jose Abreu. Jon Singleton has his chance and so far us doing excellent. At home, he's batting exactly 300. With 6 hits in 20 plate appearances. Half of those hits have been fir a home run. Im so happy to see more Homerton bat flips.

Gausman's time in baltimore is around the same time Arrieta went to the Cubs and turned into God himself. The Orioles just didnt know how to make good pitchers at the time. Lindor getting the HOF badge over everyone else is crazy. I’ll take Seager, and Xander over him for the hall. Both have won it all, Cory being a two time WSMVP. Xander is always in contention for a SS and batting title. Lindor is great, but without the accolades he’s not sniffing the hall imo. Especially since the Mets won’t do anything after October for a few more years.
@JesusDanielle
@JesusDanielle Месяц назад
They all should’ve have gotten the HOF badge, apart from a World Series MVP lindor isn’t missing any accolades at all. 4 all star games, 2 gold gloves and 3 silver sluggers and he’s been decent in the postseason. If the hall was only for ws champs and mvp it would be a pretty empty hall

Baseball isn't like some other sports... you don't need championships or MVPs to be a part of a Hall of Fame conversation, you just need to be consistently good. But even if you wanted to consider that, Lindor's 2016 postseason was awesome (he hit .370 in the ALCS and .300 in the World Series) and Cleveland lost the World Series in extra-innings of Game 7 because they had no pitching, so it wasn't his fault. He's finished Top-10 in MVP voting 5 times (3 times in the AL, 2 times in the NL), doing so while playing one of the most important positions on the field at a Gold Glove level and switch-hitting. In fact, you could argue he's the greatest switch-hitting SS in MLB history. As long as he has a healthy 3-4 more seasons at his usual numbers, he's an easy HOF choice.
@DiedPool2199

Love the video!! I respect your opinion but have to heavily disagree on Glasnow. Definitely love videos like this and would love to see more!
@AndThatsBaseball

Idk if you can call a guy that had an ERA+ of 140 from 2015-2018 a bust. Like I get it, he was drafted as a starter and didn't really pan out, and his career had a steep decline, but I would argue the Cubs got more than enough out of him during that 2015-2018 stretch. Obviously taking a whole career into account, maybe I agree with you, but if we're judging him strictly as a reliever and from what the Cubs got out of him, I believe they would say they hit on Carl Edwards Jr. From 2017-2018 alone he had an ERA+ of 153, with 118.1 innings combined over the two seasons. Great video and definitely enjoy the content, we may just have different criteria for what a bust is. You don't necessarily need to have extreme career longevity, especially for relievers, I believe a 3-4 year stretch of great pitching is more than enough to say he was at least meh.
@AndThatsBaseball
@AndThatsBaseball Месяц назад
I get what you’re saying, but short term productive relievers aren’t too hard to come by. Edwards Jr. was supposed to be a starter when he was ranked here, so the fact that he was a reliever is already falling below expectations. I personally don’t think he was great for long enough out of the pen to overcome that.

Great video, I think the grading system presents an interesting question on which kind of careers you would take from a prospect. The Blue Jays would probably take the career of Aaron Sanchez, who was a very good starter for them during their contending years in 15-16 over someone like Heaney who has made a longer career but hasn't had Sanchez's peaks. It’s a completely different world than 2014 as far as prospect go. Everything prospects is different. How good the actual prospects are, the rankings, the amount of rankings and people involved(prospects is big business now). How important prospects are to a franchise is even different and they are more coveted and thought of more highly(smaller market teams spend more of development than payroll now). And as early as 2019 everything has changed as far as the quality of the prospects. Ever since the pandemic the quality of the baseball athlete has completely changed. Look at College Baseball and the Prep players now. It has never been this talent laden(especially the pitching). And like I said, it all changed during the pandemic. Athletes(at least in baseball) all got their sh*t together and found all those outside baseball physicality where they are getting stronger, faster and smarter(with all the data). And in turn everything has changed as far as the quality of prospects. And like I said, prospects is also big business now too(baseball is catching on with the Spring breakout game). The NFL draft has already been big business for the NFL for years and now MLB is catching on. The amount of people involved in prospects now compared to 2014 is substantial. And that’s not even mentioning Fantasy and Dynasty baseball. Everything has changed!!

It’s so different. So much more data, a massive leap in talent evaluation and development. Idk how much more there is to uncover when it comes to maximizing player ability at this point.

I think instead if the 'hit, miss, or meh' system, should have possibly just ranked each player from a 1-10. 4-7 could have been considered meh. If Soler falls into the meh category he'd be a high meh, 7 out of 10 im thinking.

Lindors defense declining is crazy other than that good list

No way Austin Hedges is a bust! One of the best defensive catchers in baseball for a decade. That’s what’s made him a good prospect, that’s what’s made him a good ballplayer.

Hedges defense has to make him a "meh" imo. Elite catcher defense is so valuable!

It’s unfair to not mention all the terrible injuries Polanco suffered. He had a cannon for an arm and then had a bunch of shoulder injuries and just couldn’t throw anymore

You know Alan Webster was bad when his segment ends on a Jeff Mathis Homerun. As amazing as mathis was, he was significantly better behind the dish than with a bat. Ok thats understatement. God tier Catcher, Bartolo Colon Level hitting.
