Ive always loved the fact that even the opposing teams doctor and trainers come out to help. And the response to the EMT'S sports have the best doctors and medical staff ever.
The way I see it is that being employed as a medic for a sports team doesn't necessarily mean you have to be a fan of that team (or even sport)...you're there to work, not watch the game (if you enjoy it, that's just a bonus). Once your services are needed, any team allegiance goes out the window and you're in work mode.
The dude who got beaned in the head on his major league debut said he was holding onto his head because he was convinced his brain was falling out of his skull
Chase Utley was playing old school baseball.Thats the way the game is supposed to be played!!!They have sissy rules now.I played second base before I and I used to get taken out like that.Thats real baseball!!!
@@billybudd8085 Intentionally injuring people has never been part of the game. Can't stand people like you that relish in truly despicable actions. Playing the game clean is how the game is meant to be played, just like with any other sport.
@@christophercancel934 it is now since that play honestly like the way I was taught to slide was do it sooner and then if the second baseman is in the way you can knock them outta the way but not like a football player does
I used to remember back in the old days of baseball when they used to allow collisions at home plate. They don’t do that anymore since they added the Buster Posey rule which they cannot do that anymore but I still remember the collections at home plate back in the the old days.
pitchers should wear a special lightweight helmet that can seriously reduce impact, those balls are coming way faster off the bat than they are off the arm
They'll never do it. A large number of professional pitchers would refuse to wear them claiming it messes up their aim. Trying to enforce it would lead to a massive walkout and holding major games hostage.
@@jeffcarroll1990shocksame thing happened during Dale Earnhardts era. They wanted them to wear neck races but drivers said they hated it because it “restricted them” and he died during a crash due to a neck injury becuase he didn’t want to use it
The ball cargo hit i remember seeing on the atbat app was hit 116ish mph, its amazing that nothing worse happened. Id imagine its probably the hardest hit ball to hit someone in the face, or at least very close
I remember and injury I seen but cant find it anywhere!!! Can u help maybe... It was a yankee game i belive but not sure the batter hit a one hopper to 3rd and the ball hit the 3rd baseman in the throat
I wish that they redesign the Baseball Helmets with a Clear plastic cover or Faceshield like the 1970's Motorcycle Helmets so they don't hit in the Face area. I seen in my younger years playing pee-wee Baseball kids BADLY Hurt and we need to protect all that play this game.
Still to this very day in 2024 as a die hard mets fan Chase Utley deliberately Broke Tejeada's leg I remember watching the game as it happend anf ive seen this play many of times non of them were as terrible as this play. MLB let stupid Utley get away with it he should have not played the remaining of the series. I dont buy Utleys apology it was not sincere just like ther 2017 astros him and Wnder Franco I will hate till the day i die mark my words
Miguel Montero quickly called for the Milwaukee Brewers trainers to get out there after that scary hit by pitch to the head of Segura back in either the 15 or 16 season when this happened
When Segura got hit by a pitch in the head, I thought; oh, no; thank goodness for batting helmets and luckily he was able to get up and got a nice ovation from the Wrigley Field Crowd. That was scary though.
Omg! If I was a pitcher that hit a batter.... cause it obviously happens... but to know I threw a pitch that hit a player, I would be RUNNING to his assistance!!!
Little league teams are required to wear masks from pitcher to fielders... if they can see the danger ... why can't MLB follow their example of safety! Train with the equipment 🎉 no excuses except pride. And pride isnt worth a life or a life with disabilities 😮❤
The contrast between football/baseball, or any sport where giving someone a concussion isn't the goal like in boxing/mma/all the fighting sports, when it happens the crowd is overjoyed while one guy/girl runs around celebrating and the other person lays on the ground in a life threatening condition. The crowds are silent and concerned in one, and the injured is removed and goes through a concussion protocol, but in the other the ref counts to eight and asks the injured if he/she wants to keep going, and he is cheered or booed for the decision by the not concerned at all crowd. The Miami pitcher Jennings, hit in the head at the 44 min mark, looked just like a boxer getting a concussion and trying to get back up. While Jennings was tended to by trainers and doctors the stadium is silent. If that was an MMA event the crowd would have been going crazy happy that they got to witness someone getting brain damage.
Pitchers need a helmet or something. During a cricket match in Australia, a batsman (who was wearing a helmet) was hit in the head below where the helmet ended, it was just the wrong spot. He was taken to hospital and a few days later he died. No one thought it would ever happen, but it did. Helmets are now designed a little differently, they finish lower and offer more protection. Pitcher’s have absolutely no protection, just their reflexes and a glove. When a ball is hit back at head height there is no where to go. I fear the day a pitcher is hit in just the wrong spot and it doesn’t end well.
If I had to guess, it's to try to cover for the hollering between the dugout and the umpire or to fill the "dead air" in the park (to take the focus of the fans away from the injury).
Tejada should've made an "attempt" to throw to 1st that accidentally that "accidentally" blew out Utleys skull. Scumbag ruined a guys career just to lose the series.
The moment Utley entered the dugout, he’s out! No questions asked. Plus he never touched the bag. Bad rule interpretation by the PLAYOFF UMPIRES. That’s supposed to be the best. Supposed to be
That Saunders injury gets me everytime I see it. I have to look away. The way his arm just flops is horrifying. And the posey collision I can’t do either. I sprained my ankle when I was a kid, and it almost knocked my bone off the growth plate. I broke it years later and still remember that the sprain was worse than the break. Sprain: crutches for 3 months. Broken: crutches for 2 days, walking cast for 3 months. So leg and feet injuries I can’t handle. I do miss collisions at home plate though. Easily was one of the best parts of baseball back in the day.
Out of line? No! Premature? Yes! Nevertheless? He was only attempting to ease the concerns of those watching at home. Some of which may very well be family members?
He was right and had a point - you can see him moving some but they're still treating him as if he's unconscious, because they're being careful. He wasn't saying the injury was minor or that he was overreacting, just that whether he was in a lot of pain at the time or actually experiencing a severe head injury they would've done the same thing.
Theyre not clapping for the fact he got hurt theyre clapping that hes ok enough to get off the field and is like saying hopefully it isnt too bad. Its a sign of respect for the injured player @oscarorozco7368
not gonna lie theres like 3 scary injuries this whole video. a baseball to the side of the head could give you a mild concussion under the right circumstances but its usually just a matter of pain. most of these dudes dont even have a lump on their head lol
When a person's skull can fracture with a simple fall, taking a baseball (a smaller point of much more force) at the wrong angle can cause serious damage...
...not to mention being the cause of a concussion (brain impacting the interior of the skull) and/or fall (which can itself cause a concussion or fracture).
@@Alsebra a fall has the weight of an entire body apexing at the head with a tremendously hard surface as the collision point. a baseball is made of rubber and leather and weighs a handful of ounces. yes they are dangerous but really only cosmetically. they'll knock your teeth out, swell your eye shut but you'll be alright.
You’re a major league pitcher. If you hit someone in the head; you’re doing it on purpose. There is no excuse with your control or the ball for it. You get paid 100s of thousands of dollars to do this. That’s my dad I’m meeting you with a thirty eight and a bat at night.
I dunno, I do believe accidents happen. You can tell in some of the pitchers reactions that it wasn’t the expected result (maybe it was an accident or maybe they meant to hit the batter but not necessarily in the head). But, I’ve never been a pitcher, so I can’t speak to the kinda things that throw off control.
Counterpoint: Batters should be able to control their hit just as much as a pitcher controls their pitch, meaning they're at fault for line drives nailing a pitcher/infielder/umpire.
@chloehennessey, as a pitcher it honestly depends on who you’re facing, but most of the time it is an accident. Most pitchers nowadays use substances to get a better grip on the ball so things like hitting batters doesn’t happen. However, some pitchers and batters won’t get along and pitchers will intentionally hit the batter. It’s not common, though. @Alsebra, while what you say is true, hitting in the exact spot you want to is very hard to do, because of the amount of pitches and velocities a pitcher might have, but also your reaction time can put a play in it. So while it is important to be able to control where you hit the ball, it doesn’t always come out exactly how you want it to, and can sometimes (not often) end up hitting someone in the head. Plus, hitting a baseball into someone’s head will never be anyone’s goal in the majors, so they will always be accidents. I’ve seen instances where batters have hit people in the head, and their reactions always said “I didn’t want to do that”. So a quick summary: batters will never intentionally hit someone in the head, because one, they will want to hit it in a location that benefits them most and two, hitting someone in the head won’t get you anything except guilt on your shoulders. Pitchers will almost never intentionally hit the batter in the head because one, since 2015 they use substances to get better control of the ball so hitting batters won’t happen (or will if you want to hit someone’s head, which is not cool), and two, pitchers will want to throw pitches that benefits their chances of winning.
Oh my a$$, a paycheck doesn't make them non human. So does that mean every wild pitch or non strike are on purpose? What about fielding errors, those are committed by major league players with big pay checks, I guess they are doing those on purpose. And strike outs, next time someone strikes out they should fine them because they make a lot of money and are major league players who can bat really well. Why would any of them strike out.
Perhaps you're unaware of what ligaments do...they connect bone to bone (generally in the form of "joints"). When one snaps, it immediately transfers the stress to the other...
