A journey into the Filters & Modulation on Argon8 with Modal's Sound Designer, & Product Specialist, Jackson. Download the accompanying patches from our ARGON8 product page: bit.ly/2YUS9JN
Of the dozens and dozens of Argon8 videos I’ve watched over the past six months, this was the one that physically moved my mouse over the buy button and clicked.
I just got my Argon 8x, and WOW! What an awesome synth! The filters are so unique and refreshing! If it only had a 4 pole ladder type lpf it would be my only synth! Even still, it compliments my other analog gear perfectly. Great work Modal!
What makes this thing sounds so good? Is it high resolution? Some special agorithms? It sounds undeniably digital, but has that quality of analog synths where even basic simple patches sounds full and present. What's the secret? I have a bunch of digital synths, but they all sound good only after lots of tweaking and modulation going on...
We could tell you about the secret sauce.. Honestly, it's probably more down to the fact that we are a small and dedicated team working on these products from the ground up so our united focus is pretty strong.
How can I achieve proper filter tracking? The user interface is great, but the values are strange. Maybe the modulation system (offset and normalization) should be reworked.
Thanks for the explanation! I have a question: When i hold X+ (shift on hold) and then turn the Wave1 knob it says "Parameter not Modulatable". But when i set it in the mod slot menu it works. Am i doing something wrong?
I am not with my argon at the moment but are the animators polyphonic? And by the way is the random lfo really random? Or is is just sort of random repeating itself? Very curious how it was done since it starts as a wavetable
Is there a way to set the starting point of the LFO? For example, instead of starting in the middle of a sine wave, if I want to start at the trough? Useful for slow, intentional sweeps. Now that I ask this question, I realize I should try using an automation track to accomplish what I'm trying to do ... but anyway, I think it's still a valid question. :) Keep these webinars coming! They are super useful!
Hi Jason, Thanks, The LFOs can be set to Free which would allow for the LFO cycle to be decoupled from the note triggers but there is no way currently to set the phase of the LFOs. It's an interesting suggestion and we will pass it on to the development team for their consideration. Best, Modal
Hi, these webinars are great. I have just bought the Argon8 and love it. Still working it all out though. Have Modal considered doing some shorter quick reference videos on specific topics relating to the Argon? It would be nice just to have a 5 minute video on LFOs for example, or a 5 minute video on the basics of the sequencer, as an alternative to getting all the detail in longer videos...
The argon and cobalt plugin overloads the cpu in Ableton 12 and constantly crashes on a 12-core xeon MAC with 64gb ram, how is it possible? Please fix that now and offer support so I don't have to put these types of comments in public, thank you
The ARGON8X should be available worldwide. There are some shortages due to high demand, but if you pre-order with your retailer you should have your ARGON8X soon delivered.
Turn the page/param dial until the display shows Mod. The first option is cut-off. Click the button and turn the dial to access Y+, Aftertouch etc. Use the Preset/ edit dial to change the value of that function. Hi Tarnlicht, based on your description it is hard to say what to do Please contact our support team with additional detail via support@modalelectronics.com.
Own wavetables, RT oscillator display (tough one I'm sure!), and that's a perfect finished synth. Currently it's bang on but they would complete it for me. Oh an another 8 mod slots. ;)
