I show in the video how to hook up a auxiliary air tank to a Air Compressor. I demonstrate how much of a difference it makes by using my Air Wrench to take lug nuts off of a vehicle. In the video I refer to the tanks in pounds, please excuse my forgetfulness . I’ve worked in the propane business for years. The harbor freight tanks is 5 Gallons. And the Porter cable compressor is 6 Gallons. The combination is 11 gallons. Also please forgive me for having a brain fart on the air pressure Regulator. Thanks SK

Time to replace that old porter cable, check out the fortress @ HF.

I think charging an added on tank should be done slowly at first. And possibly separating them after the charge is complete. Maybe. I would like to try this though.

@@KawaiiArcadeMasters yeah it that’s the best way. Just fill it a little at a time. So not to get the compressor hot. The old porter cable was old anyway. I replaced it with a craftsman 6 gallon same deal. Still running the add on tank too.

Great video Brother. This will help me tremendously when rotating the tires on my GMC 2500 van! 8 lugs on each tire. 66 years old & used a 4 way. Last time I changed oil and rotated the tires took me over 5 hours. This will save me all kind of time! I'm headed to Harbor Freight as soon as they open to purchase an 11 gallon tank. I'll check back later with an update. Thank you!

Awesome Man! I hope it works out for you. It’ll definitely help with air volume

Your compressor needs to be 100 percent duty cycle or dual stage for this to absolutely work and not burn up but you did try it so bless you for that brother.

It’ll definitely work until it burns up the compressor. Ask me how I know lol

I appreciate seeing you do this. I have a harbor freight 5 gallon compressor and I want to use an air hammer to take some glass blocks out of a basement window. I heard those air hammers can use some air! This seems to do the trick to at least give me more time to chisle out those blocks before I lose too much pressure to make the air hammer in-effective. Great solution for a one-time or seldom-use situation where you just need more air volume. Thanks!

Is it possible to take my old working compressor from a rusted 25 gal tank and plumb into a HF tank as the primary tank?

Yes, just regulate the pressure for the tank.

I was thinking of doing the same way hook up. How long did it take to fill the external air tank ? I have 11 gal 125 max PSI CENTRAL PNEUMATIC AIR TANK from harbor freight.
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife Год назад
It didn’t take very long, I would fill the compressor tank all the way up. Let rest about 10 mins, then equalize the tanks. Then run it another 7 to 10 mins and it’ll be full
@roberttijerina6717
@roberttijerina6717 3 года назад
When doing this does the Cfm remain the same ? in the new auxiliary tank
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife 3 года назад
Yes. It’s on the back side of the regulator. It’s just making the tank bigger
@Inkling777
@Inkling777 Год назад
If you're running your tools off a long air line you might get better results locating the auxiliary tank close to the tools.

Definitely agree, I hardly use air tools tho, just for lug nuts. Or spray off dust from my truck or clothes

Yup it’s a burned up compressor now. I have recently replaced it with a craftsman 6 gallon pancake same deal. With the add on tank. Works perfect
@944LS
@944LS Год назад
Just so everyone knows, this doesn’t increase cfm, but it does allow you to run a set cfm for longer, so you get longer working times. Also, make sure your compressor is rated lower or equal to the max psi as the auxiliary tank! This video the compressor is 150, and the tank is 125.
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife Год назад
I had a regulator in between the 2 tanks so it only put a 125 psi in the auxiliary tank. And your correct about the CFM it only helps for volume. I thought I said all this in the video. I guess you just caught the highlights or either I forgot to mention it. Either way thanks for pointing out the technical aspects
@johnclayton2101
@johnclayton2101 Год назад
I think the REGULATED output of the compressor should be set to the MAX pressure of the auxiliary tank, yes. But the max pressure of the compressor is that. The MAX output of the air compressor. Keep the regulated output of the compressor to at or below the max rated pressure of any Aux tanks and it should be fine.
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife Год назад
@@johnclayton2101 that would be the perfect solution but when the main compressor kicks on it won’t shut off until it reaches max pressure which is 150 PSI that’s why I had a regulator in between the compressor and the helper tank to keep the pressure at 125 PSI. It has a release valve on the tank so if it goes over 125 PSI it’ll release the pressure. So it’s safe. But I get what your saying. If you had a 125 PSI compressor to match the tank you could do it.
@johnclayton2101
@johnclayton2101 Год назад
@@ShinyKnife Maybe my compressor is different. The output of my compressor has a regulator before it gets to the main tank. If I add an aux tank after that regulator, then both tanks compress equally, right? It's as if the main tank and the aux tank are now one larger tank. At least that's how I understand it. I think the power to my compressor motor monitors the compressor side, so that probably does go to max. But the REGULATED side, I mean the regulator that came with my compressor, is shared between the two tanks. I guess I'll just have to try it. That's the only way I'll know. Until then, you are probably correct. I mean YOU DID IT, and I have not.
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife Год назад
@@johnclayton2101 I put my aux tank on the back side of the regulator because it was broke. I took the safety valve out and went off of that side. That’s why I had to add the regulator the way I did it. But you are correct if you come off of your regulator you can equalize the tanks.
