It starts out sounding creepy and foreboding, but that rhythm and the melody of the chorus gets unexpectedly funky, it makes me feel like Vaal is a complicated sexy man who no one understands.

It eludes to his character. At first, Vaal seems like nothing more than a rotting, walking, living corpse, hence the creepy and ominous sound of the music at first. However, as we look more closely and break more parts off of him, we come to realize that he is actually a creature wearing the decaying remains of long deceased monsters, much like how his battle theme becmes bombastic and funky with the creepy and foreboding aspects taking the backseat. From death breathes new life, I guess you could say. Although, in Vaal's case; it's from life death breathes, anew. :P

"Name: Vaal Hazak Title: Corpse Coat Dragon Average Length: 2095.4cm Average Height: 712.05cm Foot Measurements: 158cm Order: Elder Dragon Suborder: Corpse Coat Dragon Family: Vaal Hazak Habitat: Rotten Vale" "First sighted by the Third Fleet over twenty years ago, Vaal Hazak is an elder dragon that disappeared suddenly before it was officially discovered." "After Zorah Magdaros's death and Xeno'jiiva's pulsing power, the surging energy in the New World caused multiple monsters to come out of hiding and become more active, including Vaal Hazak. The recent activities during the latest Elder Crossing caused it to awaken once again." "Vaal Hazak can be found living in the deepest parts of the Rotten Vale. Although Odogaron is often seen as the apex monster of the Rotten Vale, Vaal Hazak is considered to be the true ruler of that environment from its relationship with a unique bacteria there." "The Rotten Vale is home to the effluvium. This unique bacteria decomposes organic material, including corpses, in the ecosystem to gain energy and breed. Most creatures, including humans, can't handle being in it, but Vaal Hazak sustains itself on it." "Vaal Hazak doesn’t hunt for prey, rather it breaks down organic matter. It sucks up the nutrient-filled effluvium and converts that meal into energy. Vaal Hazak has a small stomach, and its gastric acid has a low pH level, allowing it to sustain itself on effluvium alone." "Vaal Hazak's other internal organs are small and short as well since it doesn't eat any plants or meat, but its liver is large since it needs to get rid of toxins inside of its body. From its unique diet, it has a horrible taste to other creatures that may attempt to prey on it." "Besides feeding on the effluvium, Vaal Hazak is capable of manipulating the bacteria when attacking other species. By using its gill-like organs, Vaal Hazak can spread the effluvium around its body and take it directly from other creatures covered in it." "While covered in effluvium, other creatures are known to become more aggressive and attack anything else they encounter on sight." "When Vaal Hazak sucks up effluvium from nearby creatures that are covered in the bacteria, they become sluggish and weaker as they lose vital energy before eventually dying. Despite the size of its internal organs, it can store a large amount of effluvium inside of its body." "Vaal Hazak lets smaller monsters live in its territory, so it has an extra supply of effluvium if left in a dire situation. It can manipulate the effluvium, but can't produce its own, meaning it will lose it over time as it fights and is damaged in combat." "Most monsters fear Elder Dragons, fleeing the moment one appears in an ecosystem. When Kirin appears in the Coral Highlands, for example, Raphinos will leave their habitat to avoid it, but smaller creatures don't run from Vaal Hazak for some reason, rather they stay close to it." "It's possible that Vaal Hazak is somehow controlling the monsters within its territory with the effluvium, but that's only a theory and very unlikely." "Usually, effluvium can only be found in the middle section of the Rotten Vale, but it’ll also cover other parts of it if too many corpses fall in the area at once. Large amounts of oxygen is needed for decomposition, and too much effluvium can affect the fragile ecosystem." "If it wasn’t for Vaal Hazak, the Rotten Vale would cease to exist. By feeding on the bacteria and making the tainted meat on its body a breeding ground for it, Vaal Hazak is able to maintain the bacteria’s population and spread it evenly throughout its environment." "Vaal Hazak is called the "Corpse Coat Dragon" from it covering its body in rotten flesh that it has gathered by using the many hook-like spikes that adorn it. It uses that tainted meat to produce effluvium for itself, and it leaves a large amount of it in its nest (Area 16)." "Vaal Hazak doesn't need to move often to feed when there is enough effluvium around, which is likely the reason why it's rarely ever seen. Without the flesh on its body, Vaal Hazak is revealed to have silver scales, and ripping chunks off it lessens its abilities." "Although losing its main means of protection leaves it more vulnerable, it becomes more aggressive and faster since the deadly effluvium isn't cloaking its body." "Inside of Vaal Hazak's mouth is an extra jaw that isn't used for ripping flesh, but for holding down prey. It doesn’t need to swallow prey whole, it just needs to capture its victim with its extendable jaws and pull them into the hidden ones before using its effluvium." "If the monster it caught doesn’t die from the bacteria, then it'll become a new medium for Vaal Hazak to use in the future. The temporomandibular joint allows Vaal Hazak's mouth to open extremely wide, meaning it can capture larger monsters." "Despite Vaal Hazak living in areas filled with effluvium, it needs oxygen like any other living thing. Vaal Hazak's height allows it to stand over the gas, and it primarily uses its wings to push effluvium away from its body so it can get some fresh air." "To minimize the effects of the effluvium, Vaal Hazak is known to wear black pieces of flesh on its body. It also uses said coat for camouflage as well, especially while young." "Sources 1. I love Vaal Hazak in every single way possible, the design, the fight, the concept, the behavior and the theme. The theme fits it perfectly and if you really listen to it, Vaal Hazak's theme actually tells a story, one of pluge, a dying monster, and the will power to never give up even when the body is rotting. Once you understand it, you'll actually see that Vaal Hazak is actually the embodiment of not just sickness, but also the unwillingness to give up and die. Vaal Hazak continues fighting till the very end, I think that this is something we can apply to ourselves, to never give up.

When collecting spores around the ancient forest I was expecting to be fighting a jumpluff on steroids rather than a Vaal hazak subspecies. While I find normal Vaal hazak more cool looking than anything, I was genuinely disturbed when I saw blackveil Vaal hazak. Not only were my expectations completely curbed, they went ahead and made a freaky monster even more terrifying. It just felt so wrong seeing those Jagras suffering from the effluvia gas.

Effluvium isn't a gas - it's flesh-eating bacteria that can get around in an aerosol form. Also, Blackveil Vaal Hazak is able to travel on the surface because it teams up with a moss-like fungus that somehow allows the effluvium to survive outside the Vale for extended periods. And there's also some implications that the effluvium, at Vaal Hazak's command, can control infected creatures, similar to the real-life cordyceps fungus can do to ants or other insects. In other words - Vaal Hazak might be a freaking NECROMANCER.

This guy was the first Elder Dragon I fought, so I made his armour (with Death Stench boots) and combined it with the Eternal Schisms for maximum dragon damage. After learning it's role in the ecosystem, it's fitting that this set enabled me to completely demolish the other EDs xD
@SlawBunnies909
@SlawBunnies909 6 лет назад
balrog0444 Haha yeah I used this set for all of the other ED's too. But it had a weakness to fire and Teostra one shot me at one point. :
@balrog0444
@balrog0444 6 лет назад
OverSeer909 I was worried about that going in, but I've been playing MH since Freedom 1, so years of experience fighting Ol' Toasty kept me out of range of his stronger attacks. Kushala though... The changes they made to it's moveset caught me out more than once.
@SlawBunnies909
@SlawBunnies909 6 лет назад
balrog0444 Kushala was a cakewalk for me. I started playing since Freedom 2. Flash bombs make it a super easy hunt. I did it with a group w/ no flash bombs and it took us about 30 mins then did it with a team where everyone had flash bombs, it took us 15 mins.
@SlawBunnies909
@SlawBunnies909 6 лет назад
balrog0444 They revamped their movesets but Teostra felt very "foreign" to me. I never liked him back then and I still don't now. That's probably why I had difficulty with him now.
@balrog0444
@balrog0444 6 лет назад
The main problem I had with Kushala was his breath attack being a cone aoe in front of him rather than a straight blast. Once I wrapped my head around that and stopped trying to attack the side of his head during that attack, he dropped like a stone. Only changes I noticed for Teo were ones that made him easier, honestly. His Blast attacks were more clearly telegraphed, and Supernova had a longer charge time. Truthfully all the EDs save Nergigante feel really easy. Here's hoping when G rank comes around they go back to kicking our asses.

I was actually shocked at first when this big bad suddenly popped up from beneath the corpse pile. Blood Borne flashbacks intensifying in that moment. Then it turned out he's the easiest Elder Dragon in the game for me to kill. Didn't cart me once like Teostra(Mostly my own dumbassery. Got him down to a science again.) or Nerg(Freaking divebomb), and certainly didn't cause me to rage like Kushala and his bouncy tornado fun house. I want to know how the Elder dragon that i've found so easy to farm since it's first appearance, suddenly became the most annoying thing in the series to fight. Constantly making me do time overs... Got to admit though. Val is stupidly fun to fight. They built him up just right, and his theme made it seem so climatic.

Fun fact: Vaal hazak is not a fish dragon. It is like a hybrid kushala without its steel. it became like this cuz it has been sleeping for a very long time in the pile of corpses. Plus the dead body makes the effluvium.

This fight was tragically easy, the amazing intro cutscene, the creative design, the absolute banger of a theme all led up to a clash of champions! It wasn’t that, I love the fight but it really could have benefitted from some more challenge, same with Teostra

Yeah the thing with vaal is that he has attacks that covers a massive area also it does a shit ton of damage also it cuts your health in half but vaal is slow and those powerful attacks last long so if youre close to him you can do a lot of damage also vaals body is covered in Flesh that protects it. Also the eflumium has layers on his chest so if you deal enought damage to his chest and there is no more enflumium hes attacks become very slow and after he completes them he has to take a long break after each one but he can do a move where he takes all eflumium out from other creatures and gets all his layers back but it takes him long time to do that wich means that you can dealhe masive damage to his legs or tail while Hes doing that also can roar and only gets 1 layer back when he has no layers he can do an atempt to gain eflumium only to fail. Hes so well balanced

The start of 5:27 gave me Shin Godzilla vibes for some reason, I find it quite similar to the start of “Who Will Know”from the movie(ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eBqCDuwZsCs.htmlsi=HZaq1EJs99q5wSQz). Could it be a coincidence or maybe they took inspiration. Maybe trying to convey that Vaal Hazak is in pain? That’s what they did in Shin Godzilla, idk, just an interesting but sad and depressing idea to think about.🤔
