I don't think people will realise (yet) what a powerful option Smartmorph is. Yamaha literally made the world's first synthesizer that can come up with it's OWN sounds that doesn't even exist yet. I've been fiddling around with it for an hour, and already I'm crashing into new sounds that I have to save all the time, because they're amazing.

WOW - Yamaha just keep making this powerhouse more powerful. I bet the ones who sold them second-hand want to buy it back. The FM Morpher just lifted the FM synth power to sky-high. Thanks Yamaha, much love! Keep developing stuff like this, and everyone will end up with a Montage or MODX. Add the sample editor - and it's basically complete. Thanks DOM for showing how it works.

I apreciate the fact that you can keep the arpeggiator running on hold while you running your finger over the map. I have only one healthy hand that helps me a lot. Made some really badass edm basslines that way. And so much fun. Thank-you appreciate iate your vids very helpful.

Great video as always Dom! So many great features with OS 2.0 and now with 2.5 on the MODX that I think that it is time to get a new MODX, that unfortunately I had to sell some time ago... or maybe a Montage :-)

Huueeey, this is the best update for Montage / Modx. To be able to change or add sounds while recording on the pattern seq., importing modx files to montage, the EPIC Supermorph! and many more. It's like I bought a new synth for free! Thanks Dom, and Yamaha Oh no!!! I can't find my USB. :8(

Thank you for uploading this, it's good to know Yamaha are committed to evolving such a fine instrument. The sequencer isn't up to par with the one on the Motif xf or the xs (it's more like the even older RM1X), which is on another level entirely for ease of use and flexibility, but I'm convinced that Yamaha can replicate and perhaps better that on the next update. 👍

I just saw the video and I think it's huge. The new sounds created without mathematical thinking or tweaking for hours. Imagine taking best DX7 patches, convert them and then Morph with each other! This is big.

Many thanks for the video, I've had modx for over a year and I'm disappointed with the complexity of building my own sounds, maybe new software will change that. I have the impression that this is a Yamaha response to Korg Wavestate and maybe I am wrong. Greetings from Poland.

Hi Dom, one enhancement would be so great : the ability to record all the places of the morph point so that it wouldn't be recorded on a single line only but on all the matrix. For example, recording all the finger motions on the screen would be great.

Thanks for sharing that. Good to see Yamaha are keeping up with Roland. All they need now is to add piano roll style edit facility and repurpose all those buttons for TR recording and you have nearly everything. VA would be a great one to add also. BTW Dom how do you display the Montage screen on the big screen behind you? An ability to transpose the touch screen to a bigger touch screen would be handy. Cheers

Would love to see an update where DX7 system exclusive files ( the standard 4104 byte 32 patch ones ) can load straight into the Montage / MODX. Would be great to just plug a USB full of these and browse / play at will.

Is there a smoothing feature on the way to avoid the glitchiness? Would make it sound much more organic.

Dom This update was genius. The lack of audition feature was a dealbreaker, but I hope it also solves a smaller issue I have with the internal pattern mixer. Sometimes channel volume does not lower the sound or change dynamics of the sound. Haven't figured out why. Has anyone else experienced that or have a solution I overlooked?

Hi I have Modx 8: I wanted to say that I am surprised that the latest update 2.5 does not yet have the option to Element Edit / XA Control / Legato: The set that has almost every sampler keyboard is "UP Legato" and "Dw Legato" To enable professional editing For example: Editing a Strings library is known to have samples glissando UP and glissando Dw, as well as in most brass libraries, guitars and more .. There is currently only one selection option in Legato and this greatly limits the options Edit sound libraries perfectly. I would love to expand on the matter if I ask .. I have to say that I love the sound of the tool and I would be very happy and thankful :) if they solved this problem in the next update

seems to be more useful if FM-X sound have all the same algorithm to make a smooth sound. All the sharp changes sound like algorithm changes.

Can we hope for onboard sample recording, editing and looping in future updates or is it not possible with the given hardware? Already has a stereo input and gain control, doesn't seem too far off to me.

I was wondering why there was no announcement in advance. I came across the download page by accident. I would be more interested in whether you also get new waveforms or arpeggiator patterns. After the update, my MODX sounds excellent. I don't know whether anything has been changed on the filters or the like. The benefits of the morphing function will have to be gradually explored. The included performances are not really smooth and sound, excuse me, rather ugly. Sorry, Yamaha. But the user community may deliver better things there in the near future. Good to know that the user manual has already been updated.

Any chance of a deeper look at linear type sequencing? Yamaha's always used to be fantastic for that, and not everyone is happy just doing songs in small loops.

I wanted to know about the MODX DAW Control - is it the same as what the Montage does? Is there a video for that?

I really need to connect an external screen to my Montage. I know it's "unofficial", but does anyone have a list of currently supported devices that would allow it? I can't lean over for more than a minute or two, so using the built-in screen is really difficult.

Except morphing, other "new" features make montage more and more close to its old brother, motif xf. Now let's see if YAMAHA could give a "new" cool feature like what they have done on MoXF, step recording

Hey Dom I had a question suppose I have a yamaha mx61 connected to my laptop (cubase) and I've shown cubase to use the mx61 as an audio interface(connected via USB) so whatever I play on the keyboard gets recorded as midi and to listen to my keyboard sounds I load up a separate midi channel for that keyboard Now.. If I buy a new audio interface for recording vocals and I connect it to cubase via USB will i be able to use both my keyboard and audio interface simultaneously and seamlessly?

What is new added to pattern sequencer. Piano roll editor ? like Fantom killer workstation has and it's so easy to record.

The smart morph and sequencer improvements are great!.... but, the one feature that I most want is missing… MPE support.. my Roli seaboard and my Osmose (coming soon) paired with my Montage with MPE support would be amazing and unique in the industry. I know that you can program the same sound in multiple different parts and get a somewhat usable way to do MPE... but it is so painful to alter such a sound that it’s not practical to use. If montage had a mode where changes made to one part would be updated in real-time to multiple other parts, MPE Usage would be practical, even if all aspects of MPE are not supported. Also, I hear Yamaha is working on midi 2.0, hopefully for the montage. I think MPE is a subset of MIDI 2.0, the only subset that I care about at this point. I hope Yamaha doesn’t take an approach like Roland and implement a subset of MIDI 2.0 that excludes MPE… Pretty useless IMHO.

I love my MODX although I'm struggling a lot with the non-intuitive menus and workflows, however these new features are great. Dom, sorry for rather off-topic question, but is it possible to create a shimmer reverb effect on the MODX or something that approaches it?

Next: a proper VA engine and Wave Tables. Should be fun to see a proper sampler in the Modx/Montage, instead of relying on external devices to edit the sounds. PS - Now that I'm on it, could Yamaha release a good choir pack?

Is it possible to record the morphing in a DAW (i have Cubase 10.5)? Super knob don't send MIDI messages. Or can we modify the morphing with an external x-y controller?

I think it should be smoother. I’m really disappointed, I don’t know why Yamaha change the good things of motif series, sequencer for example.... Why montage is not a workstation? Why to do more complex and unintuitive?? I have a 3k dollars beast on my room like a pretty and expensive table because when I want to play and create something my creativity disappears because of hours of unintuitive programming... Having a BIG issue after MODX Update 2.5 "audio interruption due to usb error is detected" I am having problems with the USB connection to my PC after the MODX 2.5 update. When I try to use my MODX8 as an interface (with Studio One and Cubase) I'm having a lot of dropouts, and the driver says: "audio interruption due to usb error is detected" I have already updated both the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver and the MODX Connect to the latest version. I also tried to go back to a previous version of the driver, or uninstall the MODX Connect. I tried to reinstall the update. None of this solved it. When the USB is connected to the PC, sometimes the MODX screen freezes when you turn it on. The synthesizer works well as a MIDI controller, but I can't record anything via USB. I love the update, but is there any way to get back to version 2.0? It's impossible to play anything with dropups, the sound is too interrupted. When I close the DAW or change the driver to my Focusrite Scarlett I can play the synthesizer again without sound interruption, but obviously I need the USB mode. Please, has this happened to anyone else? Did the upgrade break down my unit? Note: I also tried to change the USB cable and the port it was plugged into, but it didn't help either.

...its a shame that the new firmware wont allow sample loop when importing audio samples into modx montage....its possible to do with melas tools but not into modx....
