MORE COMPLAINTS with 2023-2024 Lexus RX according to owners

This is a change in a new generation of infotainment screens. Soon those would be fixed and then we go back to the outdating tech. Mechanically, the cars are fine. Mostly it's the new tech that is causing most of the issues.

I have not seen this myself. Did it resolve itself or you needed to go to the dealer?

@@lsft It seems to resolve itself next time you start the vehicle.

Actually the tow eyelet most often used for attaching to shipment from Asia; not needed here. Also why no hook in trunk. Here in North America you can only put the 500h on flatbed for instance and cannot two by wheels unless putting rear wheels on a mini trailer lift.

@@ChristopherSimmons Yes, it's mostly used for shipment from Japan. Someone did ask what happens if you fall in a ditch during the winter and they need to pull your car out of the ditch. If they had the tow eyelet, they can attached it there and pull the car out. In this situation, they will need to find a place underneath the car and pull the car out. No references on where they should attach the tow straps or wire to pull the vehicle. I assume it's the subframe mount where it's designed to lift the car.

@@ChristopherSimmons well the NX and RX is very similar. So hopefully be able to spread the news more. I'm surprised that so many ppl didn't know that car owners got one keyfob starting Oct 2022. And hopefully soon that is over. I guess you need to be a Lexus fan to know the details of things happening

Did you bring it into the dealership for them to look into it?

@@btk6357 these type of issues are the hardest to remediate.

Is the AC set to Eco AC? Press on the climate and turn off the ECO AC mode. Should have it checked as the 500h is not that slow of a vehicle.

Have you tried pulling the manual handle when there is power?

@@lsft I don’t own this car, but I saw videos of manually opening the door from outside which I thought is cool.

@@ddxxbb1 I own the NX and I recall that the manual handle only works when there is no power. The inside works with or without power.

@@lsft I read the manual, it states that you need to insert the mechanical key and turn it to operate the manual release from outside.

I believe putting the trickle charger in the front will work. It is just a bit slower. I assume you have a hybrid RX? You could get a hand warmer and wrap it around the door handle to hopefully melt the ice build up. You should be able to open the door when you have the 12V up and running. I am surprised that they are not able to boost the car. Hopefully the trickle charger will work. The Lexus trickle charger is connected to the front terminals so it should work. I have a trickle charger pre-wired to the back, so I just open up the back seat and pull the trickle charger plug and plug it in. Let me know how it goes.

@@lsft After calling a Toyota dealer in Gatineau, who said that I could use them, (being family day in Ontario no Lexus dealers were open) I tried to trickle charge at 2 amps. No luck as the voltage will not go above 6 amps and the battery tops out at 30% At that point, my Motomaster Eliminator battery charger kicks off line. All the while the battery is charging, I hear a clicking sound and the Park light on the transmission is flashing. I have no idea what is causing those events and the manual gives me no guidance. I am not willing to risk using a higher charging rate nor to risk the 60 amp start function. I doubt the latter would work anyway as the Lexus Roadside Service tow truck could not get the car to start with their power bank which supposedly has started large trucks. Looks like a tow to Belair is going to happen whenever they can fit me in. I will let you know what happens next but, at the earliest, that will be tomorrow.

That typically happens when the 12V battery is dead. You should try to see if you can boost it now since the 12V has some juice. But having it towed to the dealership might still be the better option. Last time when my 12V died, I trickle charged it for many hours and it didn't seem to work until I boost it and it woke up and then I let it run a while with the trickle charging charging at the same time. Do let me know how it goes.

@@lsft On the THIRD tow truck sent by Lexus Roadside Service, the RX started. The first driver tried a battery pack/booster pack on the terminals in the engine bay to no avail. The second driver repeated that failure and did not arrive with the dolly that he would have needed to get the 2023 RX350h out of our garage as it was in PARK with no way to get it into NEUTRAL I had stressed to the clerk at the Lexus Roadside Service that a dolly would be needed as the car was immobile and I was not going to let them simply try to drag our car out of the garage with it in Park and with the Parking Brake engaged. The second driver called a third driver. The third driver, a young man of small stature, got into the back of the vehicle, somehow got access to the battery, where I had failed when I tried the same manoeuvre, and boosted the battery. I immediately went to the dealer and asked for a trickle charger to be installed with an external plug that I can power on when we take extended trips. The dealer’s service representative said that he felt that battery in the RX is underpowered as he has had to deal too often with flat batteries in winter. He will have our battery checked to see if there is a problem with it. He also told me that he had been told to expect a newly designed driver’s exterior door handle to be in by the end of March to fix the issue with our being frozen out of our car. He expressed scepticism about that date. Another customer, immediately ahead of me, raised that issue and had been experiencing his fuel cap not opening one out of three times. I guess I now know why the conventional wisdom of not buying the first year of a news design is solid advice. That said, Belair’s service reps are willing to do all they can to make things right. I am enjoying the loaner NX.

@@retiredarmstrong Glad you got it to the dealership and they are looking into it. Well, you gotta keep in mind that the RX is already the 2nd year for the NX with the same door handles. I still think you should get a trickle charger in case of any issues in the future. They most likely replace the battery with a larger one, but I'll wait to hear about the outcome.

New tech is causing this issue. Should be resolved very soon and then the door handles will no longer be an issue

My 2024 RX 350 premium is made in Japan. I picked up a premium plus earlier, built in Canada but immediately switched to premium trim after noticing the Vin J. But Japan built in trim lacks traffic jam assist even in some entry level premium plus option.

Typically the sensor issue and a sensor needs to be replaced. But interesting that the dealership is useless. Is there another dealership close by?

Most RX sold in North America are made in Canada. The RX450h+ is made in Japan. Some hybrids sold in North America shipped from Japan. Depends on allocation.

Some 2024 RX 350 premium & entry level Premium plus trim are also built in Japan, but those lack some options like traffic jam assist, available in Canadian built RX 350 premium.
