More Porthcawl - Beaches, Bays And The Mysteries Of Newton Burrows

Another Porthcawl walk, this time heading to the beaches and bays to the east of the town. Starting at Coney Beach, Sandy Bay then onto Trecco Bay, Newton Bay and finally Newton Burrows with its mysterious well and ancient settlements.
Sandy Bay, is also referred to as Coney Beach. There’s a funfair which is open in the summer months and they even have donkeys on the beach.
Trecco Bay is a blue flag beach which is bordered by the Park Dean Trecco Bay Holiday Park.
Newton Beach another long sandy beach which stretches east from Porthcawl to the River Ogmore
It’s a popular beach for windsurfers, jet skis and small boats as it has a slipway.
Heading onto Newton Burrows you’ll find the burrows well a limestone spring hidden in the dunes and there is evidence of a settlement in the area.
Near the burrows well is an unfamiliar site known as Candlestone Manor (found on the Historic Wales website), it is thought to be the remains of a boundary wall dating from the 1500s of the Candleston estate.
So that was a winter’s walk along the beaches and Newton dunes to the east of Porthcawl.

Do you remember when there was a hydro slide centre on Sandy bay back in the 80s would love to see some images of that. Also can you raise some awareness about all the trolley at the river at ogmore by sea. I counted 14 the other day and loads of tyres

I vaguely remember the slide, it didn't last that long and I think it got wrecked in a storm. Yes, the amount of tyres in the river visible at low tide is staggering.

There are tremendous beaches in Wales. Rest Bay is the obvious one but I would also recommend Monknash beach-but beware an unofficial nudist beach and and they do jog.

Loving your videos.. Porthcawl is one of our favourite places.. We would love to see a video or before and present on sandy Bay and Newton. Also would u have any knowledge of the little empty house on the sea front I think it's called beach road in newton. Its been empty years.

Thanks. Do you know which one on Beach Road? A couple of the houses down there have recently been developed, if you an idea of the location, I could take a look next time I walk past

@@flydriveexplore hi.. I'll try and explain. As u come into Newton from trecco Bay entrance on ur right. U go up passed a pub on the left and then there's a right hand turn down passed grass and a park. The street has houses on each side. As u get to the bottom the houses stop on the left and u have the wall to the beach. Right there on the right there is a bungalow style house with nice grassy ground and trees it looks empty. It's next door to a house which has advertisements for development. I have a photo somewhere I will dig it out. Also the last time we was down Porthcawl last year they was doing work on the building on the seafront where they store the caravans for trecco in front of where sandy Bay used to be. I'm interested to see what they have done there. They had smashed the front of the house off when we was there.. Thankyou 😍😁

Also we love ur videos as we are unable to visit at the moment. We loved beales for fish and chips and also the Cantonese round to the right for a Chinese 😍 we usually visit once or twice a week for a walk and some nice chips 😂😍

@@berrowsmk2xr25 I know where you are on Beach Road, I'll take a look when I'm walking past next. The other place you mention by the beach near the caravan storage is nearly demolished but no sign of redevelopment. I don't know what they can do with it as that area is eroding away quite fast.
