In this video I go over spidermans biggest villain, MARY JANE WATTSON. I hope y'all enjoy and laughed at least once. Outro Song- Break by ZaQuay- / okopbq471akhtct1a Remember to Like ;)
Ugh, totally. I hated when she repeats the upside down kiss with him just to be "sure". And she still goes on with the wedding because of fame Me being JJ Jameson will do everything in my reach for that hoe to never get a job in town ever
TBH, even as a child in the early 2000's, I always felt MJ was trash. WHat she did to the guy at the altar was messed up and I saw that as an 8 year old.
As a child I didn't even know her name. I literally have no idea I watched films I literally ignored all dialogue. I just didn't. I just straight up didn't.
The girl who lived in the apartment with the landlord was the best girl for Peter in the whole Trilogy, she supported him and also was very understanding of him
right? I don't get why even in cartoon girls/guys go for clearly toxic full of huge red flags relationships but shit on the right guy/girl, who support them and care for them
I remember my mother saying MJ is a bad woman and I should avoid woman like that at all cost when I was watching Spiderman as a kid. I got angry at her because I really liked MJ. As I grew up, I realized how right my mother's advice was.
Idk how anyone at any age can even like her at all. I mean it, even physically, she's really not all that hot. And as far as personality that's just trash.
As a child I just saw MJ as a perfect love interest for Peter. It just made sense that guys struggle to get the girl when I was that age. But watching it as you get older, you really can see all the psycho
she's diabolical in these movies man. I even thought that as a kid, I was constantly confused on what her goals or character was. she just spends every scene shes in actively trying to fuck over everyone.
John Jameson is a stand-up guy. Nowhere near the raging, psychotic lunatic his dad is. Except when he became Jupiter Man. But this one didn't. So he's good.
It's kinda funny cuz originally in the comics, Gwen Stacy was the annoying toxic damsel in distress who was always mad at Peter for not being around her for 5 seconds, while Mary Jane was the cool, laid back girl who always supported Peter and seemed like she always had everything under control.
a lot of the different adaptations end up swapping them around; Gwen originally was the first Parker girlfriend, and MJ came along later. The 90's series not even having Gwen exist is what shifted that part of the lore, and nowadays Gwen is better known for the Spider-Gwen incarnation.
It's weird because Gwen was kinda mid in the original comics, but everything since then with her has been far more interesting and enjoyable. Ultimate Gwen Stacy was a nice change of pace being more rebellious. Spider-Man Blue made her far more likeable and we see how Peter really felt about her. The Amazing Spider-Man movies portray her as being very sweet and less of a nagging mean girls cast member. Then Spider-Gwen came into the world and changed things up again, making her similar to her Ultimate comics self, but more modern. Idk I like her a lot.
Gwen Stacy - Just as smart as Peter Parker/Having the same skills as him. Black Cat - Willing to fight crime alongside him/Is *way hotter* Mary Jane Watson - Excellent at getting kidnapped/No combat skills/Career failure (depending on the story) For someone so smart Peter really fumbled that bag.
In the actual comics gwen stacy was a bland boring character and the readers loved mary jane because she had actual personality and stood up for peter. Black cat only loved the spiderman persona and constantly manipulates peter for her own interests. The raimi movies just did a horror job at adapting mary jane and the recent comics have beefed doing everything in their power to assasinate her character
@@giosbizarreart9048 Actually in some versions felicia is an excellent companion for Peter. She learns to appreciate the man as a whole and not just Spidey. Read "The Evil that Men Do"
In the original comics, MJ literally flirts with Peter in front of Harry, whom she is dating and even gets mad at HIM when he calls her out on it, to the point where he almost OD’s on drugs. After he gets home from the hospital, she continues flirting with Peter in front of them in their own house!! How this trash human being became such a staple is perplexing.
Yeah you’re 100% correct. I never liked MJ in the movies, or comics. There is always some unnecessary drama with her. Another example is the insomniac games. MJ broke up with Peter because she got tired of his “overprotective attitude”. OK can you blame him? He experienced a terrible loss and she does get pretty reckless in a lot of situations. What’s even worse is that she kind of flirts with him even after they broke up. For crying out loud, MJ make up your mind! They should’ve been a chill couple in the first game and then get married in Spiderman 2. No ridiculous drama.
I don't know if this is the case in English but in the French version of MJ in the Spider-Man game on PS4 (or the Isomniac games) she talks about the breakup ALL THE TIME, like it speaks quietly then suddenly she adds a "Do you remember our breakup?"
@@misterok5978 In the English, she doesn’t mention it every 5 seconds but still her reasons for breaking up with Peter in the game felt selfish. She jabs at Peter about the breakup 4 times in the story. I just think that Peter & MJ should have been a couple from start to finish in the 1st game and then they get married at the end of Spiderman 2. Sorry for the rant lol 😂. Its just that the drama between these two is getting really old.
@@misterok5978 Oh that’s a fact. I mean she’s a “supermodel” in comics if I recall correctly(Not exactly a proper job for a wife). They went in the right direction with her being a journalist(more interesting story wise) in the games but they kept her irritating attitude. Lol 😂
Peter fumbled the bag MAD HARD when he skipped his neighbor girl (the one who made him cookies and was very kind to him, obviously had a crush on him) in favor of that toxic redheaded bih
The question is would Mr. Ditkovich have allowed Ursula to date Peter in the first place? I'm pretty sure he's well aware of her crush on him. She's not exactly subtle about it.
One think more frustrating than MJ's toxicity is Peter's simping. No matter how much she breaks his heart, he's always there waiting for her to start the same toxic cycle again.
Dude I don't blam half of the simps ita Part of male evolutionary psychology to seek female approval and we have a society that Cranks that up so much in a society where women can literally have an entire career of complaining about men my aunt is a gender studies professor lesbian who leers at young college chicks and basically go all men are trash and its a woman's right to mentally abuse them. We have so much that warps our minds and most men are gotten when they are Children and its done by their mothers they don't have a defense to that I didn't either it took a lot to break my brainwashing even when I knew about psychology and anthropology of it.
@@sigmarine Odd nobody's calling you an incel yet when you're here speaking facts, but good on you homie, you're not women's emotional punchbag because they had daddy issues.
I always hate that trope of how someone knowingly dates a bully, and then viewers are expected to feel sorry for her when the abuse is turned on her Screw that noise. Heck I disliked Sam from Cobra Kai the first 2 seasons, but credit where credit is due, her bully boyfriend began hurting her AFTER she dumped him because she witnessed him beating up 3 defenseless teens, and was like 'hell no'
As kids we wanted Mary Jane. As adults we all wanted Ursula Dikovich. She was always trying to be there for Peter. In Spider-Man 2 when he was going through his crisis, she gave him cake and milk to cheer him up. In Spider-Man 3 she made him cookies and was even willing to make some with nuts for him. And even though she clearly is crushing on him, she told him MJ called back because she just wanted him to be happy. That's wifey material, MJ belongs to the streets.
As a kid, I had always preferred Gwen. I had spent so much time researching reasons as to why Gwen was better and in the end I found that MJ literally no redeeming qualities. Gwen Stacy was perfect for Peter.
I know she came from an abusive family but yeah leaving your fiancé at the altar is cold af. Imagine the humiliation and embarrassment he would get considering he’s a well known astronaut. Suddenly her being rejected by her theatre in the third movie is karma catching up to her.
I have a theory that mj will have a cameo in spider man and then after secret wars when Spider man 5 comes out she will get rebooted to mary jane watson and she will have red hair
You forgot one of the worst ones: PS4 Mary Jane. While she never cheats or does anything like Raimi MJ, she sure as hell is annoying She says "I may not have spider powers but I'm not made of glass" directly after sneaking into a facility guarded by HIGHLY TRAINED SOLDIERS WITH LASERS. I'm sorry, but in a world where demon mobsters and 8 foot tall Rhinoceros men run rampant through the streets, yeah, you ARE made of glass, MJ
@@kiteman02_64 doesn't stop her from being incredibly annoying. She's just as annoying in the dlc. When she finds out Peter might be a father (mind you Peter wasn't cheating, he and MJ were apart) MJ just says "uck" and hangs up. Like, how fucking rude is that? Sure, she apologizes for it later. But you can only apologize for being a bitch so many times before it no longer means anything
@@kiteman02_64If I remember correctly, she doesn’t outright apologise for this specifically. I think she just generally apologises for being rude or something, or for being mad at Pete, which is just lackluster. I would definitely love to be corrected, because PS4 MJ is one of my least fav.
You can really see how the film industry makes us believe that this kind of behaviour is romantic. But in reality, it's the worst and makes women and men completely incapable of having a relationship.
Sadly true. There's been a lot of toxic romance portrayed in a lot of art/media and in a lot of entertainment industries. I wouldn't be surprised if some of that is a reflection of how some of our societies has turned a blind eye to toxic relationships for centuries. It relatively wasn't that long ago when there were laws about women not being able to open a bank (which meant they couldn't afford to move out/do almost anything independently) without marrying someone, so I wouldn't be surprised if the pressure for people to hook up and get married too soon and too quickly was cultivated back then, and lead to ending up in toxic relationships... 0_0
Yup trying to sell the “playing hard to get” and “chase after her if you really love her” and “women are so indecisive”. Nah it’s just cruel. Fellas if a gals not interested, she’s not interested. Move on to someone worth your time
Damn man! You hit a homerun on this one. In my youth, I was just so caught up in the Spider-Man story that I must've been tuning MJ TF out! Cause I straight up DID NOT REALIZE how toxic she was! And then when you went into the 90's cartoon MJ, I was like "Tsh, I know this clown ain't got nothing on h........." Facial expression = @_@ I have never stood so firmly corrected in all my life. Why did my memory make her seem like such a good person! I thought what they had was so pure and undeniable. God damn, nostalgia really does blind fools!
Her marriage to Peter in the comics was the more interesting part for me. She wasn't in the thickest of the fighting, but she had her own struggles too. They both had to work together through their marriage with the personal stuff they both had going on. Know what else? They were a pretty good team in that regard.
Comic MJ: "Peter, you go deal with the current villain while I *explain* the realities of life to these other MJ's" Comic Peter: "Ladies and Gents, the REAL Mary Jane Watson-Parker!!"
she didn't love peter, she loved that peter loved her. i feel like her true self and attitude were really shown in spiderman 3, some of her quotes were crazy. "tell me again, was i really good; the applause wasn't very loud", "tell me you love me, peter".. like it's so obvious how self obsessed she is
I think that’s why they showed her having daddy issues in part 1. She is a person without any love given to her which is why she was obsessed of being loved
@@dipayandasclassxisectiona6578 this is a fictional story, it’s not like she has a choice of what they wrote for her to do, they wanted her to be like that, than that’s what you get 💀
This was bang on and exactly what I thought when I watched the first movie. She doesn't actually love anybody by the way, only herself. She zaps attention and energy from several, tortures them all. Sadist.
You would if it was her early comics. Lately it seems that Marvel has no idea what to do with her and the same goes with Peter. Neither have grown up for the past 17 years since their marriage was retconned and that's because Marvel doesn't want them to stay married, so because Marvel doesn't want Peter to grow up-- MJ as a character is affected by this.
@@anon9060 Im to young for that and plus I live in iran, there are no comics here. I saw the one in sam raimi spiderman, the one from the game and the one from the animated series. consider all the things she did like leaving her fiance at the alter or humiliating peter at every turn and she was clearly pleased with herself when doing them. no man with a shred of masculinity and respect for himself would ever go for a woman like her.
Even as a kid, I never liked the MJ portrayal from the Raimi films. Her cheating/running away from poor John Jameson, her hopping between Peter and Harry and breaking Peter's heart, her kissing Spider Man without knowing who he was 😭😭 she added so much misery and stress to Peter's life. Thank you for pointing this all out, I love your humor and points and cuss-free content that I can watch with my sibs. New sub :))
? Peter rejected her wen they both liked each other, John was a rebound, Peter after losing his powers tried hard to get her back and she accepted her feelings to be with him. Harry knew Peter liked her and in part 2 said "she's waiting for u"
Dude, stop saying women are oversensetive cause look at men in the comments criying cause a character has personality and some deep. Both, mj and peter are real and complex characters and they are cool, if you want perfect goofy ass characters go watch a kids movie god 😅
Toxic women need to be called out more. Not erased from scripts, but called out. I have an ex who always sides with the toxic women in movies and she has no reason to acknowledge the red flags because the movie treats them like they're perfect
That's actually insane but like the movie Scream said "don't blame the movies." I think she would have justified her behavior movie or not. Then again I don't know maybe you're right
To be honest I am a girl and in never understood why everyone liked this toxic relationshipp no mather what I can't understand this. Some of my friends I try to advice to let this toxic relationshipp and find one who is really ther for you and wants to supportyou bot no they never listen to me. Three gusses you can make where is always coming crying to me becouse her boy-friend or girl-friend makes her/him emotional trouble?
wanna know something funny about all this? across all the movies, they make it seem like peter wasn’t capable of getting a girlfriend besides mj. but in the third movie he was juggling Gwen, Betty Brandt, and the landlords daughter like it was nothing. he’s not ugly, he just lacks confidence lol.
@@LWLProductions I think she was supposed to be younger than Peter just by the way she acts and also because she seems to live with her father. But they had very non-teenager looking actors playing teenagers in the first film so I’m not completely sure myself. I just get “high school girl with a crush” vibes from her.
I want to see a story line of Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy are the main villains of a Spider story. With MJ being pure evil and Gwen being a broken hero that redemped herself.
They both played peter and he ended up getting revenge in return....he beat up harry and brought gwen to the place mj was working at just to flirt infront of mj with another woman...and slapped mj on top of that, oh yeah I forgot he got revenge on Eddie too...damn now that i think about he got revenge on sandman aswell, peter went of a revenge spree in spider-man 3 lol😂
One has to wonder how much damage this toxic to-and-fro inflicted on the minds of young men who were trying to figure out relationships in this era. Doubtlessly, this is where many poor dudes took the idea that IF you REALLY LOVED HER--and you didn't 'deserve' her if you didn't 'love' her--then you'd persist and be patient no matter how she treated you, or how little regard she showed for you.
She's def not like this in the comics. She's very supportive to peter, and isn't a damsel in distress, until the most recent run in the comics ruined her. If you wanna see a comic accurate version watch spectacular spider man, or just look at gwen in spider man 3, because they literally gave her comic mj's personality
@@abdoucisse894 No, Gwen was a literal antagonist in her early years then became a boring source of terrible drama. Ala Mary Jane in the overhyped raimi movies. They killed her off for a reason and MJ stepped up as the waifu. She was without a doubt welcomed with open arms over Gwen who was quickly forgotten about. Even Black Cat was just a super slutty cat themed version of MJ.
She is AWFUL in the Maximum Carnage arc. She knows Peter has his hands full with the chaos in the streets, yet she constantly nags the hell out of him -- even making it a point to go to the CLUB and flirt with other men, nearly getting killed and having to be saved by Peter anyway.
Yeah, but Maximum Carnage had Shriek using her powers, to brainwash the entire city, bringing out the worst from EVERYONE in New York. You can't blame MJ for not being immune to something that was affecting even the superheroes, to the point it hindered their efforts to stop the villains.
I'd agree, but Amber from the animated Invincible is AWFUL. "I don't care if you literally had your guts punched out, you weren't at the SOUP KITCHEN!"
@@thedrewdog "yeah, I'm not an idiot, I figured out you're a superhero risking your life and limbs every day to protect the innocents, and by proxy have enemies that will target everyone close to you, but WE'VE BEEN DATING FOR 2 MONTHS AND I DESERVED TO KNOW!" “From the streets did she emerge; and to the streets she will return. And I say unto you, ‘She is for the streets.’ So be not weary when she must return from whence she came.” Book of Future, Ch. 1 Verses 1-3
The Sam Raimi universe’s Mary Jane is the definition of a selfish human being. In Spider-Man 3, when MJ was talking to Peter in his apartment, she says: “This isn’t about you, this is about me.”
I was 19 years old in 2002 and even as a literal teenager with no experience in relationships I HATED this version of MJ. I genuinely could _not_ understand why Peter was SO hung up on this awful, unfaithful girl. She was SO wishy washy and untrustworthy. And the fact that she was CONSTANTLY flaunting her relationships in Peter's face was honestly _disgusting._ She WANTED him to give her a reaction. I think she got off on seeing him hurt and miserable and suffering and looking like a crushed puppy. She very obviously could tell that he had a crush on her. I was SO disappointed when in _Spiderman: No Way Home_ Tobey McGuire's Peter confirmed that he was with her. How much drama and stress must she be putting him through _on top_ of his stress of being Spiderman? How many guys has she cheated on him with? How many times has he _forgiven_ her? I just _can'ttttt._ 😭
Fun fact: Stan Lee himself believed Peter's true love is Gwen Stacy. So all the "ship him with MJ" Marvel does always felt weird in spite of having better girls for him.
@@XZAVIER-DAA-GOD not exactly that, gwen only loved peter yes but that change later as she get to know him and spider (and stop beliving tha spider killed her dad) and become supportive of peter and spider. Same thing with black cat where she just loves pier and later star to discoverr what she missed by dimissing peterand that he is actualy someno she could love. Mary Jane in general have nice felings for the 2 and as she get realy in love she knows that the 2 are the one and same and now marvel writers break her too sadly, because spider never get a break.
Gwen was too clingy in the comics. If you think about it,MJ killed Gwen. She toyed with Harry about their relationship which led him to doing drugs.Eventually this causes Norman to snap back to being the Green Goblin and boom,Gwen dies.
When watching spiderman 2, I really felt bad for Jameson's son. He seemed like such a nice guy that didn't deserve being left at the altar just because he was being used to get to Peter.
@@vorpalinferno9711 MJ straight up ditched him at the altar. I'd get it if she told him she wanted to break up sooner, but waiting until the last second was a messed up thing to do.
Thank you for pointing all of this out. Bc watching this younger, I learned all the wrong lessons. When I got my own MJ, a gorgeous girl of my dreams, I learned all about what toxic was, first hand
@@itsnotmeitsyou7615I don't think that word means what you think it means. Ignoring a character's shit behaviour because they're hot and you want the main character to fuck the only option the movie will actually give them is the opposite of nuance.
The sad thing is that the Mary-Jane Watson-Parker we had in the comics from 1987 to 2007 was a great and well written character, for the most part, but because Joe Quesada had a massive hate boner for the concept of marriage due to his own one going tits up we saw both the Peter/MJ and Cyclops/Jean marriages well an truly get thrown under the bus.
@@williamedwards4151 for me Quesada was one of the worst EICs Marvel had. Seriously, though the 00s turned out a lot of stuff that was better than what we had in the 90s or what we would go on to have from 2012 onwards, a lot of editorial mandates he made were horrible. Seriously, there were times he made DeFalco's EIC tenure look like Stan Lee's or Jim Shooter's.
@@Ntwadumela89 Pretty much, but the way Quesada portrays it is a tragedy that they had to be separated, when in reality Peter should've been on his grindset.
I think she was at her worst in Spiderman 3. She made it all about herself and even resented Peter for being more popular than her. She treats peter as if he's working a 9-5 job doing overtime that doesnt give her enough time but in reality peter is doing a very important duty that she herself knew what it was and what she'd have to tolerate at the end of Spiderman 2. Given, Peter messed up kissing Gwen, but I'd say Bully Maguire gave her a taste of her own well deserved medicine.
As much as I love these movies, the did MJ’s character so dirty. It’s to the point that everyone thinks that this is what MJ is like, which for the most part is just not true in the comics.
Denial someone literally made very much contrast between different characters MJ is not the one she just not she literally started zero purpose so stop dick riding for a minute
@@danielendless honestly, I don't know what is up with the writes/ higher ups, but they are doing everything they can to make MJ seem as unlikable as possible, and unfortunately, it has worked on a good set of the fanbase. And it's a shame because in older stories, she was a great character and her development was beyond most other "love interests"
MJ in the insomniac games definitely tracks with this. Girl goes out of her way to put herself in the most danger and gets mad at Peter when he just wants her to be safe. I appreciate her bravery and willingness to be on the frontlines but I emphasize with Peter’s frustration so much.
For me, it was that she didn’t take a mask, web bombs or a drone, or ask for any type of emergency gadgets for if stealth failed. Being proactive was fine, she was just being stupid about it
I sort of get why she didn't like Peter constantly treating her like she's made out of glass since she's clearly done this so often that shes almost an expert at it, but at the same time, there were so many times where she only got out of because of Peter soooooooo....
@MrKingJson tbh the only reason she survived was luck and thugs being stupid. I mean, the thugs hear some boxes fall or glass breaking and don't immediately call for backup to secure the whole area? That's pure stupidity. And mj was also super lucky that that taser she grabbed somehow managed to work on enemies covered in advanced armor from head to toe.
Peter shoulda got with Ditkovich's daughter. She likes him, she's sweet and she can cook. And who knows, maybe Ditkovich may not be so hard on the guy that treats his daughter right.
As a kid I thought the same thing but in the end I realized Peter was influenced by the Symbiote so maybe it was the best not to though she clearly wanted him
I remember when my dad was watching the trilogy with me, he said, ‘This woman is an opportunist. She doesn’t care about anyone as long as it benefits her in any way.’
Sucks that Raimi dialed MJ’s toxic traits to eleven since she’s only acted like this in the 60’s and dumb recent comics. And the former was presented as a character flaw that she worked on before she got with Peter and became one of the most sweet and relatable couples.
Raimi wrote the villains really well but he *did not* get any of the protagonists. Aunt May sucks, she exists to make Peter feel guilty and that's it. Peter's just a loser and he removed his intelligence because Raimi didn't find being smart relatable. He's not funny, he's just pitiful. MJ is...MJ.
@@Dertzer Do you think May exists to make Peter feel guilty? Do you think Peter is meant to be an average dweeb without any kind of personality whose sole goal is getting with the super toxic childhood friend he has no chemistry with?
