Informal conversation, trying to explain the differences in feel between the DK2 and DK2+ motion systems while trying to keep the mighty Miata on the track. In our next video we will tackle off road tracks in iRacing using the 4x4 Trophy Trucks. But the Miata here is a great baseline. Previous DK2 Motion Talk video is here: • Motion Talk 4 - DK2 + ...

The DK2+ system uses larger motors and actuators and is able to support more weight than the regular DK2. The larger motors offer a more powerful and toque-y feel than the regular DK2, and provide more attitude in the motion experience. The DK2+ is recommended for all sim center or similar commercial applications.
The DK2+ motion system is a professional motion system for serious sim-racing enthusiasts, drivers and researchers. The system shares the same design and construction as our industrial-grade motion systems used in our full motion vehicle simulators. Additionally, DK2+ is mechanically and electrically engineered around our unique motion algorithm to provide the most realistic and representative vehicle motion feedback.
DK2+ takes a modern approach to our signal processing and motion control to create the most responsive system on the market. Every elevation change, vehicle movement, surface change and gear shift, is captured and reproduced within 2” (50mm) of the available mechanical stroke.

more specifically YES. 😁

When you said that the dk2+ had a higher frequency, what did you mean?
2 года назад
The DK2+ motors have more torque, although slightly lower max RPM. But the torque is key at maintaining positional information and hence with the higher torque we can represent higher frequencies (which are harder to achieve with smaller motor). Hence the DK2+ can represent a higher frequency range. We are constantly tuning our algorithms to get more out of the software and motors/drives. Firmware and software updates are installed automatically via our over-the-air windows installer. Simply by restarting the Sigma application.

For engine vibration, is it dynamic, (for example based on engine type, number of cylinders, or car)? I ask because in the video you talk about the little in-line 4 engine struggling up the hill.
2 года назад
Yes, the engine vibration (EV) is dynamic, in that it auto-tunes for various engine types, RPM limits and types of engines. So you really get a good range of feel of the RPM with the right resonance. More information on EV here: www.sigmaintegrale.com/document-motion-layers-defined/ Motion systems that rely on effects are more likely to use triggers for such effects and would need the engine type, number of cylinders and max RPM defined in the software so they can be triggered appropriately. This is a quick way to add "EV" to most games and it works for the most part. But we are constantly tuning our algorithms to get more out of the software and motors/drives. Firmware and software updates are installed automatically via our over-the-air windows installer. Simply by restarting the Sigma application. This means our algorithms/software and hence EV is always improving based on community feedback and our continual research/development.

@ very cool! Love it! Looking for to the 6” system video, hopefully with a variety of sims/game genres (DR2/F1/ACC/Truck Sim/ Flight)

@@netlawman2001 We will definitely post videos soon. DK6 actuators are probably the shortest 6" system out there. Still need to validate that claim but it seems so right now. But they are definitely the heaviest with massive side load abilities.

how many amps does the DK2+ draw compared to the DK2 system?
2 года назад
These are the numbers, also available on www.sigmai.co: 1) DK2 average total system draw at 110V is about 290 W/h 2) DK2+ average total system draw at 110V is about 330 W/h

What kind of cockpit are you using for these? It looks great, with no frills, not overbuilt, and not too heavy.
2 года назад
Hi Carl. Thanks. No frills is right. This is something we built in a couple of days from McMaster.com which is a local engineering supplies provider. Its a little on the heavy side and overbuilt, but we needed really strong connections as we are always testing and faulting motors causing extreme tripoding which stresses most chassis out there. I believe the total price of the chassis was about $800 USD + 6 hours of built time and some cutting. We then use dust covers to keep the cables tucked away somewhat nicely. We also built something similar with a mono-arm for the wheel, had just a little bit of flex but not noticeable and easy for some clients to get in and out without having to swing their legs in each time. ;-) Cheers!

Single screen with motion system, it does not make sense.
5 месяцев назад
We mostly use our rig for testing hardware, software and algorithmic changes between all software. So one screen makes that easy. This is one of our many test rigs. Actually we just donated this rig and switching to a new welded steel chassis. ;-)

You guys have to try VR with the motion system.
2 года назад
Thanks Virtual Apex. We definitely do use VR when we can. Screens are just easy to jump in and out of for testing and validation. Our lab is a constant array of wires and peripherals. We have 6 chassis that we are constantly switching between and currently using HP Reverb G2 on the flight chassis as its the best option for all those fine details in x-plane.

Is there a chassis you recommend for this setup? I’m concerned my NLR GT Track is too heavy. It’s 106 lbs.
Год назад
106lbs is not too heavy and it's the total cumulative weight that matters, meaning everything including the driver. For example our chassis with simucube pro, heusinkveld pedals and some other lighter accessories all weigh in and about 210lbs, and we range from 135 to 245 lbs... still all below the 500 lbs weight limit if you add up the heaviest driver.

Alternatively, we have a list of integrators here that have their own chassis or integrations with our DK motion system : www.sigmaintegrale.com/pages/buy-try

Would be great to get insights into 3 vs 4 actuator system. It seems that for 3dof a 3 actuator system would be all you need? Not much advantage to 4.
2 года назад
Hey dangandres. You are right. 3-Actuator 3DOF is all you need for 3-DOF and it feels pretty amazing specially with the heave. Perfect for flight actually. But what you do miss with the 3-actuator over the 4-actuator is the individual high frequency motion coming from the individual front wheels. So when hitting curbs with the left or right side, you will only feel the vibrations coming from the front and not front-right or front-left. Minor detail but it helps with feeling the wheel placement. Thanks for the great question!

@SURG3NT 2 года назад
Hi, is there any noise difference between the DK2 and DK2+ when in motion? As in this video the DK2+ system sounds practically silent?
2 года назад
Good question. Noise levels are really determined based on many factors. Here are just a few: 1) the intensity of motion or what levels of intensity each layer is set to 2) the material type that the motion actuators sit on 3) the measurement device and its location from the motion actuators 4) the age of the actuators and the ball screws within them It's really hard to effectively portray how quiet or loud the DK system is, but from about 24" away from the rear two actuators (equidistant), a regular iPad with a measurement app reads between 60 to 70dB when the motion is at full load and max settings. ;-) 65dB is like a regular discussion. Hope that helps. [Just uploaded a RU-vid short for you too] 🙂

@@SURG3NT our pleasure! Please keep in mind that a 4 year old iPad is not the best measuring device. We will post another video, maybe with more detail once we get the proper tools to measure. ;-) Cheers.

@ what would your take be on this? Because d-box seems more refine and advanced. Would you recommend this over the d-box?

@@RobertoOrtis we are obviously biased as the makers of this system so its really hard for us to be any source of good comparison for you. Just being honest. That being said dbox is a good system and we have used it many years ago before being pushed to develop our own and take advantage of some of the opportunities we saw. @ thank you for the reply. Cool, i haven't made up my mind yet. Are you planning on make it upgradable? So we have surge and traction loss
2 года назад
@@RobertoOrtis yes its in discussion. Since we use a network connection from the computer to the controller, it should be a simple integration. Probably two controllers, one dedicated to pitch, roll, heave and engine vibration/road vibration. And another controller dedicated to surge, sway and possible yaw. Would happen next year as we are still improving and adding titles to the current 3DOF system. ;-) Thanks for the questions!
