My friend is suffering from the same disease and it's hard for him to even move. Seeing Mick rocking his guitar with this terrible condition is astounding. When he was younger he was a beast. Live Wire all downstrokes at high tempo, very clean and groovy. Wishing him all the best, he's an inspiration to all of us
it amazes me to see so many 'he's a shitty guitarist' comments below, granted he's by no means a virtuoso but he's had a hand in writing some of the greatest tunes in hard rock. I'v played the guitar for years and I can tell you that crue as a whole had 'it' If it was so easy everybody would be on stage playing in a successful band for 30 plus years its not! as for his health problems this guy is a fucking inspiration have no doubt! i recently was told i had ankylosing spondilitis earlier this year after a long period of unexplained pain, the only reason i even knew what it was was because of mick mars talking about it in his autobiography with the crue, this guy is made of fucking iron to tour with this shit in his 60's, iv always loved motley crue and mick mars and my respect in the last year for him has fucking shot through the ceiling, rock on mick, fuck the guitar snobs you're an inspiration
i agree with you i play guitar and i have AS i started playing drums but had to give that up about 20 years ago as is a terrible disease it can effect any part of your body not just the spine skin eyes digestive system made worse by the NSAID drugs you have to take for this disease Micks a great player and an inspiration to disabled muscians everywhere
Not the most technical guy.. But a riff writing badass. Loved Mick growing up. Such a humble guy even though he was in one of the biggest bands in the world back in the day. Anyone else suffering from his condition would have packed it in. Mick is a LEGEND.
For all the haters “Fuck you”. No one can understand what Mick has been through with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Movement = Pain with this fucked up disease. It deforms your body, fuses your bones, bends you to its will and constantly tests your will to live. People say Mick is standoffish, not sociable, a loner. People can hurt you even when they don’t mean to. I will do almost anything not to sneeze. That simple natural action makes my body feel like I’m being hit by a truck. That Mick has accomplished what he has is a testament to his iron will. Please don’t judge but instead rejoice in the indomitable human spirit that this man exudes. Rock on Mick.
Our kids were VERY happy they saw Motley Crue prior to any retirement! It was our 4th time seeing them in concert, Mick was a great entertainer! Fantastic concert, great memories :)
unfortunately not.. just feel .die for you is written by mick mars nikki sixx alice cooper on the album hey stoopid and mick plays guitar.. feed my frankestain nikki sixx plays bass on the same album
I'm sure that's a big part of it though. They know how hard it is for him to be up on stage night after night doing this stuff. But you're right. I've never seen someone who loves playing on stage as much as Mick does despite the fact that it actually causes him physical pain. That's a true musician right there.
I love this man my true hero I hope motley crue keeps on playing till their graves they are the greatest metal band who ever walked earth! thanks Vince, Nikki, Mick and Tommy love you guys keep on rockin!! \m/
He's an average guitarist technique wise but he sure as hell knows how to craft an awesome tune, starting with crushing riffs and pulsing rhythm parts e.g. Kickstart My Heart and Ten Seconds To Love, Same Ol' Situation and Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away). His solos always fit the songs too. He proves that virtuoso technique isn't everything to writing good, memorable music.
He is clearly not an amazing guitarist from a technical standpoint (relatively speaking, for a rock god)...but many of his licks, rhythm sections, and the way there are woven together, is genius.
A lot of people like to take a piss on Mick because of his playing, calling him amateur and an all around terrible guitar player. The way I see it is he was never trying to be anything he wasn't. When Nikki and Tommy read his ad in the Recycler it stated "Loud, Rude, Aggressive guitar player seeks band" and thats exactly what he is. His "Style" is sleazy, aggressive, and he likes it that way. He said in an interview not too long ago that he likes his style to be a bit sloppy. Not to mention that with all of the amps he's running and how hot his pickups are he's basically controlling gain this whole solo. I'm liable to get a lot of flack for it but it reminds me of Hendrix and you can hear that. He's not trying to be Van Halen or Satriani. He's an old school blues guitar player.
Did you just compare Mick to Hendrix!!? 😂😂 Adding you can hear it.... You gotta be joking right!? Because I heard NOTHING that sounded even close to what Hendrix did.
@@davidpaul6656 that's 100% true about Jimi Hendrix there is only one person that could beat Jimi and that was Robert Johnson even Jimi said that him self Robert Johnson was the best that's just my personal opinion on this subject
So are... other very BAD artists who I shall not name... I aint got nothing against Mars, but if you're gonna defend the man, use arguments that arent based upon flawed logic.
just my personal opinion on this subject Mick doesn't have anything on George Lynch or Warren demartini I feel sorry for what he is going through but Mick is not the best
I used to be all about soloing and technique. Then I grew up and appreciate songs and not guitar solos. The riff and song are the most important thing, and only guitarists really give a s*#t about solos. Mick's riffs and tone have always been killer. Simple? Yes. But catchy and grooving as hell. That's what matters to most music fans and musicians who look at the big picture.
Idk.., thought Edith Mcgrail was dripping in sarcasm.., but it's probably just a case of really dreadful grammar skills.., which seems to be the norm with kids these days.., AND...., the 13 people above me seem to agreement soooo.., Hold On Nelly.., Edith ain't no kid.., she's an old fuck like me so its for sure.., she's being sarcastic as hell!! I'm feelin ya Edith.., u go girl!!
I saw the Crue on the Dr. Feel-good tour in late 80s or early 90's, can't remember. It was so loud I vomited and wasn't drinking anything. Still the best show I have ever been to and I have been to many.🤘😜
Micks incredible, he has great skills that a lot of the idiots on this comment section are blind to, sure he is no john petrucci but he isn’t trying to be. He is a loud rude aggressive guitar player just like he says. He is 70 years old, he has had a disease that fucks with his entire body and he has had it since he’s been a teenager, and he still plays everyday of his life in all that pain. Nothings more inspiring than that to me and that’s why other then EVH mick will always be my favourite guitarist
If anyone called this man the worst than they are as daft as the current president. Even thru such pain he drives the audience. I have only seen him & Alice Cooper together in their tour together. He is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mick Mars is awesome. Apart from his disease, he's not the best techinc-proficent guitarist ever, but his riffs and licks are very catchy. He can make the guitar "speak" and there's nothing better for a guitar player. AFAIK he's also a blues badass. In my opinion, at his current age, he can probabily fuck up the 90% of his haters and he could have had a lucky solo career if it wasn't for his health status. Respect for him!
It's so Sad that Mick Mars is so underrated as guitarist. I think he's a little bit better then Slash. Mick Mars, Slash with CC Deville(Poison) They are IMO the Guitar gods of the 80's and they still Rock The World
@Cheetah Chrome Yes I saw them at the same show Alice Cooper opened for Motley Crue on Motley Crues farewell tour at the Saint Louis Verizon Amphitheater
Mick Mars is one of the best rock n roll rhythm guitarist of all time. He doesn't solo like slash, vai or van halen, but hey, none of these virtuosos can play riffs and rhythms like Mick. Who gives a fuck about playing fast licks? Mick is Mr. groove...
nah the crue have already announced there retirement and mick seems to be the last one who wants it to end they are doing there Vegas residency then they say they want to put an album out then the farewell tour which deeply saddens me
