I think Moto Guzzi really nailed it with this model. They understood the market and gave the riders a nice, practical, comfortable machine, without compromising their style and italian charm.

I love my guzzi and love seeing whats new in their lineup for 2020. Looks like its gonna be a home run once production catches up with demand. I love that Guzzi sticks with what they know best, the air-cooled adds such a nice bit of character to their bikes. The v85 is no exception, this bike is sharp.

Very concise review of Guzzi’s V85tt - thanks for sharing. Had Guzzis for years and always impressed with them as long-term ownership bikes. Great lookers, good engines and torque, easy maintenance and usually very well styled - what’s not to like. But as you say in your video, you have to know how to ride them.

@Jamie, this is the best V85TT review that I’ve come across. Great job! You really seemed to nail the potential applications of this bike. I love the paintjob on that example as well; a great conversation starter without the Ronald McDonald jokes that would accompany the Red/Yellow/White colour option.

Great review Moto Geo, really nicely done, and I'm so pleased you liked the bike and gave it such a favourable review. In the real world, I don't think that many people would be frustrated by a lack of power - it seems to have plenty of shunt, and anyway it's always going to be more rewarding to able to use ALL of it, rather than only SOME of it on some 160-180hp rocket. Guzzi may have a long and illustrious racing pedigree, but their line-up nowadays isn't designed to hurtle you towards oblivion at warp speed; and a big engine in a softer state of tune, albeit with gobs of torque, is going to last well and not be some temperamental, high-maintenance projectile only for those with deep pockets. I love my Guzzis, they're keepers, they grow on you and keep on growing. Great bikes.

Excellent review with all the right information (except price, which is another big advantage of this bike). I love that you give both weights, dry and kerb; this is the only way to compare different bikes, especially when one has a big tank. Guzzi deserve to sell these in droves. Guzzis are keepers too, you grow together. They last.

The bikes engine mapping is restricted until first service, this is shown when over speed indicator lights flash during engine run in. The engine comes alive after service remapping, and is a different bike from pre service. I absolutely love riding my V85TT travel, and hope to do some serious miles on it.

I do not believe that the mapping is changed. Mine was not after the first service. Only the threshold that starts the LEDs to flash due to the rpm is altered. But you can change this whenever you want on your own. And I did so.

Great review. The engine is a superb design that has being perfected by MotoGuzzi over decades. Overhead valve design which means supremely reliable because of the use of push rods to actuate the valves the distance between the crankshaft and camshaft is very short hence only a short chain required. These are forever engines. I had a 30,000+ mile Breva 750 & it had being well used but it never used any oil between changes and I tell you once I'd set the tappets myself with just a feeler gauge, ring spanner and screw driver the idling was rock steady at 1,300 rpm and the motor still sounded tight. You don't have to remove fuel tanks or radiator's to do the tappet's just the rocker cover's & only 2 valves per cylinder. So easy and if you don't want to do yourself then very cheap to get it down as a very quick & easy job.He mentioned like a GS however not the weight of a GS. Shaft is great as you don't have to worry about lubricating your chain and it's easy to service when it comes to doing the oil. The other big factor is the seat height at about 830 mm is manageable for most. The Tenere certainly isn't. The Triumph Tiger suffers the same problem. It can look the best but if you can't get your feet down to even support the bike then there's not much point especially off road.

Your comment is good because I will be in the market for a reliable adventure bike with easy maintenance. The africa twin takes hours to do shim valves and the BMW does no longer seem to be that reliable.Only concern is that I had a lemans 2 with oils leaks affecting the dry clutch plate, broken universal joint and electric starting problems. That put me off so I sold it to purchase a Japanese machine.

Excellent video. Shaft-drive, air-cooled, plenty of torque, comfy seat at a good height, very nice styling, I'm impressed with this bike. However, at AUD23,500 ride-away, it's up there in price. The $10K difference between my V-Strom 650XT and the V85TT is a lot of travel money. I must admire this bike from afar, at least for now.

Nice to see a rider that acknowledges the bike for what it is designed for, it amazes me that people buy this bike and try to ride it like a ZX10. It's heart breaking. Having had shaft driven v twins for many years, they do have characteristics that you can not get with an inline 4 or parallel twin. Honda CX's in their day were not a powerful bike, but given there low revving engines with good maintenance, try find a bike as reliable. Used the CX 500 Shadow for many years as a courier bike. Best bike ever made for that job.

Good review. Guzzis are not for everyone. And they are not like other motorcycles, especially the older carb'd models before the factory got into flywheel lightening. And thats how i like it. A reccommendation for anybody serious about test riding, turn down any 50-100 mile test ride - you won't like it. Take one for a morning or afternoon, or preferably the whole day, long term.like Jamie, and, if you're different from the crowd, you'll get it, and sign on the dotted line.
