You're spot on that all you can really do is delay a determined thief, but this delay can be the difference between catching them in the act or not as a friend of mine and his neighbour were woken by the noise of thieves drilling out the ground anchor on his R1, luckilly his neighbour got there first and released his two American bull dogs on the thieves, as my mate said there's no better sound than the screams of bike thieves running off with dogs taking lumps from them lol.

The problem is I reckon they'd lay a bike on it's side and drag it out underneath the bar if there are a few of them, which there usually are, but having said that all you can do is make it as hard as you can to try to deter them with products like this.

This is well timed. I came to own a garage five days before Christmas and the door was broken where somebody had tried to peel up the corners previously. Had a new up and over (figured I'd keep with a similar type to the previous door) door fitted, then when I had my trusted locksmith round the next day, he showed me that the new door isn't compatible with the Enfield bolts I was hoping to have fitted. After many hours of scouring the internet, I came to the conclusion there are no other extra security options on the market for up and over doors.

I have posted this system previously on other blogs about motorcycle theft from a home garage, hopefully it will help someone out there. Great post Chops the Gardsman system looks like a serious positive deterrent. I have however used the following system for some time as a early detection system to allow you to call the cop's, your friends or if bold enough ones self tackle the thieving scumbags oneself or release the hounds. This only works if your garage has a power supply fed from your house. First get yourself an old school baby monitor, the type you plug into the kids room and then your living room. Next get yourself a loud PIR alarm, preferably a plug in also, better get two. Both are cheap and available at Argos or online. Plug the baby sender unit into your garage, the receiver unit of the baby monitor into your bedroom and make sure you can hear the sounds in the garage from the bedroom. Fit the alarm PIR's into the garage where one will catch the door opening and one further back/ different angle just in case. You can buy these alarms quite cheaply, get the ones set with a key fob control. Check the system works. You can put your own plan into force thereafter. Also don't advertise you have a bike in your garage by putting signs up " bike parking only " ,etc. Common dog...

Like that. Had the same issue with concrete in general...70’s house or drilling into reinforced pebble dashed concrete. As has been said, an SDS drill plus masonry bit makes it easy. I like the fact that this is not visible from the outside, rather than something substantial on the outside that says ‘there is something worth protecting in here’. I like a layered approach. You could also put subtle locks on the doors as well which deadlock down into the concrete. But you’d need an sds drill as the bolts are about double the size. I have two on each of my garages. This would be another layer, plus ground anchors. Great subject for a series of videos!👍👍

Looks good LCR, my chosen method is an unlit garage with things to trip up on everywhere with lots of nasty things around which could seriously/terminally injure the thieving c**ts if they fall on them and two nice ground anchors. 👍

Also, it's a good idea to have a motion sensor alrarm. Not one of these send you a text jobbies, but one the gives an ear-piercing shrill. I have 2 ways in to my garage so mounted them aiming at both doors. I sleep a lot better knowing that they are there. Also park your car right up against the garage door. Pain in the ass when you want to get the bike out though.

Everyone's a know-all but: I think you were putting too much weight on the drill/drill bits. They burn out if you do that. Use moderate strength to hold the drill in place and let the masonry bit do the job for which it was designed. People do the same thing with jackhammers - lean into them with all their weight. Just hold the thing upright and let the sharp end do all of the work. I learnt this the hard way after murdering a lot of masonry bits!

Well some scumbag took mine in London and the most frustrating part is the police sent me a letter 2 weeks later saying case closed! Not even a phonecall these days. Unless you tell them you have CCTV evidence or some sort of tracker (or, god forbid, you catch the scrote in the act), they don't want to know. Just so sad that people can steal your stuff and get away with it so easily these days. Then it's almost seen as if we, the owners, are at fault for not securing it like fort knox when we take it out! (rant over).

Chops, ask Mrs Chops to buy you some decent drill bits for Christmas this year. You overheated the one you were using with far to much speed, get the right bit and those floors would have been drilled in no time. How do I know? Been there! DeWalt make some serious bits that can get through 1970's council estate spec concrete with ease lol

Just a bit of advice, it's always good practice to lose as much slack chain as possible and keep it and the lock off the ground to prevent sledgehammer attacks etc 👍🏻 And if you can, put it round the frame or through the swingarm, wheels can be removed relatively easily 😁

Nice vid matey....and anything that helps protect is a good thing! Re your drilling efforts.....as well as using a meatier drill, which should be SDS, do allow for the possibility that you may have hit re-bar (metal reinforcing bar) that’s often incorporated into concrete. You’d then need to use a metal drill (obviously switching off the hammer function) to drill through the bar and then continue back on with the masonry drill, back in hammer mode! It’s a bit suspicious that both the rear holes (fnarr fnarr) are in line and had the same problem thus my guess at re-bar. Good luck and stay safe!

It’s worth a look at Thelockpickinglawyer, aside from all the locks he picks, he often gives you an idea of how long it will last with an angle grinder. As you correctly said, it’s about making it harder and slowing them down. You can forget about law enforcement, especially at the moment. A common piece of kit for a thief is the (quiet) 42" high tensile Record bolt cutter. And you need therefore chain links that are at least 16mm to defeat the above tool (your chains looked a little small Lamb Chops!), large enclosed shackle padlocks and decent ground anchors. Better chain diameters are 19mm or 22mm (reassuringly costly and heavy) and as I think the police have said in the past, consider spending some 10% of the bike value on security. I've used Pragmasis (I've no connection with this company) for this level of security to give peace of mind.

And if they came with a van and chain attached to a tow bar would that not just pull out in seconds?

One of the many things I love about living in Thailand is the lack of thefts here. I rented a scooter for the first few months I was here and left the keys in it, by mistake, 3 or 4 times and it was still there when I got back. When I got my Kawasaki I bought a lock and chain to secure my helmet but after a couple of months stopped bothering. People simply don't steal stuff like that. Maybe in Bangkok it might be a little different, I don't know, but here 99% of the time your property is safe.

Not what I heard. You have those double trouble motherfuckers riding a scooter and the passangers are snatching women purses or bags etc.

@@Darkest_Soul_187 Not here mate. I've heard of that in Cambodia and The Philippines but definitely not where I am. Been here over 3 years.

It's your revealing social media posts that gives away your security or lack of it. I just don't post my private stuff on the Internet where thieves are prowling. I see it all the time on eBay and Facebook. Loud exhausts are another signal to thieves that you are arriving or leaving. Take a different route home to your prized possessions, every time, because no matter what you use for security, you'll trip yourself up from your one lapse of concentration and if it is difficult for you to secure your items. How difficult will it be for those unaware of your routine?

Yes the Tech Tuesday vids are only an occasional thing. I will do more on mounting locations when I review the new Insta360 One R camera 👍
