Moving across the world 

If more people practiced Solo’s thoughts on accepting of other cultures, the world would be a kinder place.

Well I’ll tell you, Solo is so interesting to listen to. He really has a gift, not just to speak, but to speak in a way that people want to listen. Such a thoughtful wise man.

I am from South Africa. Last year, in Rome at the Colosseum, I started chatting with a sweet, friendly American woman, and when she heard that I'm from SA she exclaimed " Ah! Can I touch you?"Was quite surreal and funny😂. I can relate with much of what Solo says. I grew up white middle class in SA. Throwing away food was unthinkable. Appliances were used until they were totally unfixable..and even broken stuff would be picked up by people to take apart and sell individual parts. Even now, on the days when we put our rubbish bins outside, we have "trolley guys" who go through our bins very early in the morning for anything they can sell to recyclers. They are a huge part of recycling in SA. Clothes also get passed down until almost in tatters. We do not waste things in SA. We have high levels of poverty and unemployment and we personify "one man's junk is another man's jewels" here.

What a nice and wise man Solo is, whenever he speaks he always does it from a good place, calm and honest ❤

I really love the addition of your Monday “just talking” videos. I know you don’t like to be on camera but Solo seems to take over often 😁. This weeks video really shared Solo in a way that makes him so approachable. When he opens up about scripture is amazing but today he shared the same enthusiasm about many subjects.

I live in Oregon but grew up in Nebraska. I didn't see a person of color until I was 16. My town was a population of 3,000. I love the different cultures, customs, and food I have experienced through 50 years of traveling. I never grew up around other races other than white Catholics but felt like I fit in wherever I went. Inclusion is a state of mind. Attitude and approach makes a big difference in acceptance from other people. I am just a human like everyone else. Solo you are wise beyond your years. You have a great attitude and approach for living and enjoying life. I wish I could meet you someday.

Dear Sarah and Solo, thanks for being frank and honest about your international family and sharing your experiences. My father did a sabbatical at a Neurological Institute in Paris many years ago. They chose to rent in a French neighborhood and sent my youngest sister to a French school. I was able to spend 6 weeks with them! My mother and sister became able to speak enough French to navigate with little problems. My Dad was always deferred to speaking English at the Institute but when he and I went shopping, enjoyed a coffee or had lunch all the neighborhood shop owners just loved him and accepted his limited French with so much grace. My Dad taught me so much during my visit. His example of graciousness and respect has been a true blessings and teaching to me. For ever!

Loved hearing your story - I traveled internationally in my career and found that I liked immersing myself in the culture of the countries I visited. The food, music and whatnot - You two are a great example to all.

Thank you for posting this.....we've always "gotten" who y'all are, but appreciate you conveying it in the most diplomatic way....2020 has gotten so complicated.

When I was growing up (1960’s, Omaha) we hardly ever went out to eat. My dad would say, “ Why should we go out to eat when we have perfectly good food to eat here?” He couldn’t understand or wrap his mind around going out to eat. He grew up in the depression, without much money.

My husband is a pastor and I work for an indigenous missions organization so my heart beats for other cultures. I thought of my many friends around the world which I have visited and it made me homesick to see them! Keep doing what you do because God is using you!
