Labour MP Charlotte Nichols advocating for better access to psilocybin treatments, or as they're more commonly known, "magic mushrooms" Subscribe to our new podcast now, or you're a silly goose: linktr.ee/pubcast
This is a subject that needs more investigation and publicity.Really interesting. They're quietly shutting down or under funding many mental health units - totally outrageous and needs changing. I really respect her courage in sharing her story
I used to be a care worker for someone with PTSD following an attack. My role was to give her the courage to go outside by accompanying her. She couldn't work. Successful treatments would have an economic benefit as there wouldn't need to be public money spent on care workers like I was and sufferers who recover can work again and pay tax.
I was diagnosed with CPTSD COMPLEX Post Traumatic Disorder as well as Long ACUTE Complex Stress TOLD I have to WAIT 18 months for treatment: THANK YOU TORY RICH
Theres a free map on google that shows roughly where lib caps grow, ive used it and had some success though it does mean having to hunt for them in sheep, cow and horse fields. Theyll be back in season come september, all it took was 0.06 gram dried lib caps to make me to for the first time understand what happiness feels like. Know how to identify and always get a second opinion, reddit has useful info
With a mix of sense of surprise and hope, and tears of sympathy and personal resonance, I applaud this emphatic speech and courageous human being. Thank you to Charlotte Nichols Love & Light to all
This is real life and not the usual batting back and forwards of insults, put downs shout downs. I wish you success and peace. I also have had issues with mental health and supported others. It does blight lifes. There's so many lost to it and of course, all those ripples cast outwards towards others. Indeed it can be generational unfortunately. I can't tell you how powerful this is, people like you are rare but you are making a difference. Keep going as best you can, take care of yourself but remember you are an absolute star and potentially thousands will be helped due to your courage and convictions. I applaud you ❤️
It's no surprise a government lacking empathy and compassion for anyone doesn't give a shit. As someone struggling with mental health issues it always makes me tearful to hear someone that genuinely cares and can see what is happening to services (or the lack of) around the country, we desperately need more kind souls like this in power!
Goosebumps listening to a great, brave, and eloquent lady. Evidence proves psychedelics in medicine work. Let's hope this goes ahead so many people do not need to suffer.
We live in a society where you don't have the freedom to choose what you put in your body while at the same time companies can shove whatever they want into you.
Medical science - like other varieties of science - is a work in progress. What works for some may not work for others and political attitudes tend to lean towards "covering one's back", whilst cost is always likely to be a factor.
Really well put! Argued with an underlying humanity I can only welcome and encourage as a way to represent all those struggling with (C) PTSD, and the unnecessary suffering it brings.
This is incredible! Open and honest MP! I suffer with bipolar disorder and I have to illegally purchase psilocybin to micro dose. The alleviation it gives me is profound! Anxiety almost at zero for a couple of days after. It is an incredible substance.
This is what Tories have spent years trying to define as ‘woke’ in the sense that if you understand and appreciate this ladies experiences and wish there to be a social structure in order to offer systems of support and help.
@@DJWESG1 indeed Wes it’s implications are vicious and deliberately divisive. As the lady said losing your health is the worst thing that can happen to you.
Having been diagnosed with CPTSD years past and the lack of support and understanding that comes from both a professional and layman's perspective, this MP delivers awareness with dignity respect and humility....Qualities very rare in parliament.
I think our society would be wiser and thus happier if we respected psychedelics and encouraged responsible usage. She's right to single out psilocybin. Its risks are negligible compared to daily life, and both abundant in nature and easy to cultivate. It's also not something people take on a whim at a party. Maybe the first time, but not after that. It pulls you away from reality and your mind's reflex is to focus on who you are and what life means to you. It has the potential to be enjoyable or scary, usually a mix, but you'll come out having learnt something beneficial. It's an ordeal so not something you'll want to do often. I can completely understand how this sort of treatment can help people with PTSD. They have all my support in getting it.
Its always the argument that it can be misused. There will be people who take it too far or someone who reacts badly to it i.e. cocaine use in a person with unknown heart issue. Im sure something similar with psychedelics will happen. We try to say “drink responsibly” but there are still alcoholics. We cannot control people so they outright ban it. Not alcohol tho… Its such a shame because I truly believe all drugs, done responsibly, can have a benefit. Amphetamines are used to manage ADHD and binge eating disorder. Even synthetic diamorphine (heroin) is used by doctors to manage pain. Moderated by prescription it could work. I totally agree with everything you said.
As someone with Complex PTSD, I've been following the amazing research being done at the moment with Psilocybin and other Psychadelics My Psychologist also felt like this would be the future of mental health treatment Hopefully the government doesn't ignore the science here 🤞
If you havent yet i would seriously suggest checking out the map of where they grow, only a few months away before they are back in season. They saved my life and i hope many more people can get access to them. Laws should be ignored when they go against what is moral
One of the guys who founded the AA (alcoholics anonymous) said he cured his addiction with psilocybin. Pretty cool thats this subject is brought up in parliament ✊
How brave to disclose your own experience in such a public platform. PTSD never completely leaves you, I know. I fully support the substance of her argument, it doesn't help that we live in such an inhuman society run by a cruel government.
Micro-dosing is the best gift one could ask for. It has so many amazing benefits such as eliminating anxiety and depression, improved mood, addiction, opening of the mind and lots more
Truly an incredible speech. I used to use psilocybin for my PTSD once every 5 or 6 months to treat my PTSD. One trip was enough to stave off the serious symptoms forthat long. In the last couple of years, I have lost the ability to obtain psilocybin thanks to the wonderful war on drugs, and suffer for it every day. Every medical trial into the use of psychedelics has had overwhelmingly positive results for their efficacy and safety. We shouldn't be governed by moral panics that ended 3 generations ago.
Just wait a few months and theyll be back in season, check the magic mu$hr00m map and check fields where grazing animals roam (sheep, cows, horses) Make sure you know what you are looking for, reddit can give second opinions if you struggle to identify
You'd think also as well as the use of psilocybin, the we're severely lacking in making Marijuana legal in this country. We're so behind, it's devastating both metal health wise and economically.
Just imagine their shock when they realise that the epidemic of mental health issues is a direct reflection of the society we have created. Modern life makes people ill, the evidence is everywhere and hopefully more folks will realise it so that the underlying causes can be addressed.
Theres a mag!c mu$hr0om map on google which shows you the general locations where they grow in the wild, look for sheep, cow and horse fields once they are in season and a day or two after it rains, a dehydrator can be used to store them long term for microdosing over a longer period of time. Gel capsules off amazon because dried libs taste like raw potatoe peel and have the texture of dried grass so chop/grind and put into a sugar/gel capsule. Just make sure you are identifying them correctly and treat them with respect, a little goes a loooong way
psychedelics lead to freedom of the mind, I personally believe this is the reason they repeatedly try to make them difficult to get a hold of. Freedom leads to people thinking for themselves and that is a dangerous thought for politicians.
Same reason they're fine with mass amounts of people overworked, underpaid, sick and tired. No time to think is a good thing for folks who don't benefit from that happening.
Theyre easy to find, just use the mag!c mu$hr0om map and wait for them to be in season, thats how i was able to get my hands on some and literally saved my life
Rx meds sent me down a rabbit hole of illness as a teen, new style antidepressants that got banned (5 out of 9 got banned) it was a tooth infection. The end result was them trying antipsychotics to fix the agoraphobia the antidepressants caused. Im 44 now and lost most of my life to agoraphobia. I moved abroad. Medical cannabis got legalized here. Ive gone from not being able to leave the house for years at a time, to daily walks. We need to start accepting theres alternatives, especially when we have nothing that works. I dont agree with the strong strains they have legalized, especially to under 26's (brain not fully formed until then..meds shouldnt be given if they cause permanent changes, permanent chemical imbalances) but it for sure saved my life where the british government threw me on the rubbish heap. Ive watched people with similar pass away without help, i see severe mentally ill people being flung out on the streets due to funding issues. The amount of our youth suffering ptsd because theyre life is violent with no safety. Widespread. But they see it as normal now. I did. We need to completely remove Eugenics from government. Start testing them for empathy. Psychopathy is still sectionable.
When a shame the chamber was almost empty when this MP made such a brilliant case for a drug that could help so many people with mental health conditions.
Great to hear this MP talk about the serious issue of the governments failure to listen to medical and psychological research, which costs lives, qualities of life, other huge social and economic costs. And respect to her for sharing her social and health experiences. If only we had a government that even demonstrated a capability for empathy and compassion. This coincides with a week in which the home secretary showed a continued disgraceful disrespect and attempted condescension of experts.
Theyll do to psilocybin what they did to thc, make it only affordable for rich people, £500 for consultation and then aprox £2000 a month for a small amount of bud. I dont see cops policing the countryside when libs are in season. My medicine is against the law but the abise that has pushed me to have to take this medicine is legal and encouraged. We as a species need to socially grow up
I know for a fact psychedelics have the potential to revolutionise psychiatric medicine, including addiction. Would you rather a) take an SSRI/SNRI - EVERY DAY and mask the symptoms at best, ruin your life at the worst? also suffer from withdrawal symptoms when you stop? b) have one, or several profound and life changing experiences that truly change your perspective on life, which attack the root cause of your mental health problems with LONG LASTING effects? Psychedelics aren't a panacea but they definitely are much safer and have much more potential than the dangerous pharmaceuticals given out for common mental health conditions today Pharmaceutical companies clearly don't want these drugs to be legal as it'd harm their SSRI/SNRI business massively.
They can't have people micro dosing on mushrooms when they can give folks nice expensive drugs with a long list of side effects that they can then give you more drugs to combat those effects whilst someone banks a healthy profit.
Also lets remember why lsd and cannabis got banned...it was after the army trialed it for biological weapons testing. The cannabis they produced a strain with (the genetically maximum at the time)highest levels of thc possible withon the plant. 14%thc. Then they tested that. Same with the acid, theyve even got the military test vids on youtube now. There are levels, but what they did was like banning beer because the moonshine they made is strong.
> "Hey, psychedelics are opening our mind to new perspectives and creating a sense of love and togetherness with all humankind." >> "BAN IT AT ONCE!!!"
