@alvexok5523

Miranda wanted someone stable and responsible, Stu was both. Daniel wasn't, he walked out of his job on a whim just because the voice character he was voicing smoked in one scene, he obviously had no concern on how such a rash move would effect his part in helping provide for his family. He hired farm animals to roam all over the house with no concern for the damage they'd cause to the place, and no concern that it was actually illegal in the city limits (a real petting zoo would never actually bring animals to a house in the city because they'd be aware of that law, but nevermind).

A lot of people are judging Miranda here... Whereas even as a kid I totally get her. As a girl I never want to end up being my family's breadwinner / caretaker / cook / cleaning lady full time. That sounds horrible. I totally get how she would fall out of love with Daniel. Sure on one side there is his character, humor and charm, on the other hand there is the life they lead together in which she is totally slaving it for her family. Daniel is her husband, not her bf, he's here to offer her a full package of q life together. She fell out of love with the package, and when you look at it, no shit Sherlock. Also she was probably ready to move on when she divorced him, hence Stuart so soon.

yeah. one funny aspect is how as a kid I thought Stu was a jerk. but that's just because we're seeing it from Robin Williams' perspective. but looking more objectively, Robin really was irresponsible, and Stu seems like a really decent guy. the worst thing he ever does is say Robin's character is a loser... but based on all the true things he probably heard from Miranda, that's a pretty reasonable assessment, really. even in that same convo, Stu expresses how he wants to be a good role model for the kids.

Imagine if they did a prequel to "Mrs Doubtfire" where Daniel, Miranda, and Stu meet at Berkeley college in the 60s. Miranda is this young creative activist, Daniel is a theatre major, and Stu is a spoiled rich kid from Great Britain with a fancy car and all the money in the world who only got into Berkeley because his rich parents paid for it. Daniel meets Miranda for the first time and starts to make headway with her only for snobby Stu to attempt to take her away to which she ends up getting very put off by. As a revenge tactic young Daniel dresses up as a character of some sort (as a foreshadowing to "Mrs Doubtfire") which eventually exposes Stu for the arrogant ego-maniac that he is. Daniel wins Miranda over..only as we know they don't live happily every after.

Funniest thing about this scene is even though Robin Williams felt jealous of Stu moving in on his family he had the decency of returning his car piece. Almost like he warmed up to him. You can tell and especially the end scene he was only concerned with seeing his children and realized Stu wasn’t the issue.
@Malkinian
@Malkinian 3 года назад
He wasn’t returning it as a kind gesture. He was rubbing it in his face it was damaged. Between the snarky remarks at the pool and the restaurant, hitting him with the lime, and the cayenne pepper, it’s obvious he never warmed up to Stu.

I never realized how goddamn creepy this movie really is until watching this clip. Psycho damages his car, watches from windows and tells his ex to live a life of celibacy. No wonder the mother was granted custody of the kids. The father is a nut job.

So if it was you, you'd just let the guy take your spot? And he's not a nut job. He's just seeing how Stu's apparently going to take his spot. You can't fault a guy for wanting to be the only male parent to his kids.

Still a nut job. Grow a pair and get over it. Plenty couples divorce. And the celibacy shit. No wonder she divorced him.

@@ughmazing8073 you saw how crushed he was when the judge twisted him up as a nut job. He knew that he was technically doing wrong, but it was just to provide good. How about YOU grow a pair and ACCEPT THE FACT that the goal was to get the kids in line, get and keep the house clean, and get back on good terms with his family. And once all that was done, he would forget about Mrs. Doubtfire and be the husband and father that he should've been. And also, I guess you WOULD let the guy just come in and take your spot. Pretty much having you end up being #2.

Personally, while I believe that Daniel's irresponsibility is also a big part of why Miranda left him, I also feel that she secretly was never that in love with him and was more into materialism. The fact that she so quickly went to Stu after their divorce is hinting at that. She could've tried one last time to work it out with Daniel, even marriage counseling, or via other means. I think that this was not merely about poor parenting. She also seemed to wanna control things and just not having a birthday party was a little bit too much. Yes, poor grades isn't good, but sometimes, we all do poorly in school, even if we try hard and just outright banning a birthday party wasn't right, even though Daniel didn't need to bring in the whole zoo.

@rrenee501 3 года назад
More than likely, with 3 kids in the picture, there were already multiple "one last time" attempts. I don't see Miranda as any different than other parents--she wants a nice home and nice things for her kids. When she was the only one bringing home a steady paycheck, eventually the frustration would grow. They probably started out on the same page. And more than likely, Daniel probably made her laugh all the time when they were first together. But eventually, life gets serious, and someone has to pay the bills. They simply grew apart.

@@rrenee501 You make good points, but her attitude with Stu, and how so quickly after the divorce she moved on, and tried to have the kids just accept him quickly, when they hardly knew him, all the while depriving them visitation of their real father, makes me suspicious of her morals. Daniel was no angel, and had to man up, so to speak, but she also was to brazen in moving on so quickly. I feel she was attracted to Daniel but didn't truly love him. That, or she fell out of love and wanted someone more financially stable so the birthday party was the immediate event that made her want to divorce Daniel. I wish she'd tried one last time to work things out. Daniel still loved her.

@@equusamans Both were at fault imo. Daniel was an irresponsible, careless man, and she was a controlling, materialistic woman who took things too far in the end and tried to replace him with Stu for a father.
