Hi Jarrod, my first ever comment on RU-vid goes to you because you are the best channel on RU-vid! Gotta say: please never stop testing Dota in all your reviews! Many Dota players are 1000+ hour single-minded gamers, and you are basically the only reviewer or site that tests the game consistently, so please keep including the game in all your hardware comparisons and benchmarking~ You brought to light how Dota 2 (and CS:GO, and by extension I presume, all of Valve's Source 2 engine games) is a bit unique compared to other games in that it prefers higher CPU power as you like to say. You point out how games like Dota 2 that are more CPU-bound can benefit or not benefit from hardware upgrades differently, and I would love to see that in comparing Intel gen to gen, i7 (quad-/hexa-/octa-core) to i9, and of course Intel vs AMD (Ryzen 7 to 9, H to HS)! P.S. I hope you are the first to make a video on the gaming performance impacts of Nvidia's Dynamic Boost and Advanced Optimus in your full array of CPU and GPU bound titles. (Wonder if they are limited to only new/old RTX, RTX/GTX Super, and/or new/old Max-Q models? As they were advertised as new Max-Q technologies. Or will it be model-by-model and up to the OEM's to choose to implement? 🤔) In any case, your Optimus vs G-Sync content was eye-opening and makes me kind of sad I, sort of had to, opt for an Optimus-only laptop previously and why I will be upgrading sooner rather than later. Your next video on these Nvidia technologies would be an awesome followup!

Yes, definitely curious about small changes here - RAM upgrades include. I'd also be curious your rough estimatation, given your vast experience, in small changes of other core elements. Higher lower ram speed vs. higher lower i7/i9 vs. 2080/2070 super. I made a guess for my work and game use cases that the i9 with more cores over i7 (couldn't spec the 8 core version) was better for my multi-threaded work tasks, and higher ram would matter across the board, but downgraded to the 2070 super for my gaming - I don't need ultra-ultra settings and will be more than in love with performance at the 2070 super level, I expect. Curious what you think! Love your channel.

It'd be interesting to see the fps performance differences between the 2666 vs. 2933 DDR4. Maybe even dual-rank (e.g. 16gb laptop ddr4 modules are usually dual-rank, while 8gb ones are single-rank) config could boost up fps slightly, while 2933 would see the biggest gains.

This is the $3000 one isn't it? Can't wait for your thermals video. I've been looking for a laptop to buy that is between the $1800, and the $2300 range. Wish I could find one with awesome graphics and thermals. I kind of like the Gigabyte Aorus 15G with it's mechanical keyboard. It's 2070 super model is $2200. Can't wait to see reviews of that.

Wow, a $3,000 config though. I'm still pretty sold on the Asus G14 for half that cost, and still pretty good performance. Even if the 120hz screen has a (ugh) 15ms response time.

Jarrod, why did you disable Optimus if like you said in previous videos where you talked about new Nvidia cards it's not required anymore and the new Optimus automatically switches GPU-s properly without the need to reboot? Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Jarrod, I finally got my Y540 with RTX 2060, 16GB single channel(soon to be changed). I've run 3dmark TimeSpy and I can't get above 13 fps! Later it informs me that the graphic drivers are not approved(I have the latest RTX updates). This is stock, not plugged in and in performance mode(set on Lenovo Vintage). Am I missing something? I can see that stock Y540 with 1660Ti gets 5900 while I get 1900...

Will you be able to do a comparison between this gpu or the 2070 super for laptops vs the newer rtx 2060 which some claim for 2020 due to its refresh should get the super designation as well? Im torn between the better panel and color accurate on the y540 but really want to get my hands on the 120hz of the Rog Strix G. Thanks for the review, Jarrod. I am a long-time laptop user who never had a desktop before and I had to pay a lot for upgrades to keep up with games I played (above 60fps). Just recently I thought a lot and decided to try a desktop and keep my laptop instead of selling it to upgrade to a new laptop. My desktop is $950 and it's pushing out more fps in the same game (COD) than this brand new laptop with all the latest techs which cost $3-4k easily. At the same time, I still have my laptop for and work I need to do outside when I don't want to sit at home. Use cloud sync services and your workflow is not affected at all. Short version: laptop is not for gaming (unless you have to game on the go). You can get a much better desktop for much less and use a laptop for work and bringing it out if you need to.

Given the performance that you usually get with Max-P MSI Laptop, I'm just curious to see the results that you will get later with a high-end GT, GE or GL laptop with the latest i9 and 2080 Super Max-P. That should be interesting because we may get results way over 60 fps with the more resource-demanding games. Anyway, thank you for this review, it really shows what we can expect from a 2020 laptop!

If you decide to test ram on this unit. Can you test high and low cas latency for both 2666 and 2933? That data would be great. 2666 RAM usually ship with CL18 or 19 but there are CL15 on the market. Curious what that does to real world performance.
