And the s351 in this review is actually not the top offering at the time, the Top dog was the Saleen S351SR and Widebody variants. which had over 500HP, and the widebody was all carbon fiber body panels, ala the same from its lemans racecar variant. Saleen simply ruled scca ALMS racing back then with numerous back to back championships. As it were back then First it was Viper that crushed racing then Saleen then Corvette entered racing, Saleen blew up the scene with their S7 supercar. which was near protoype fast, team corvette was so vex'ed at Saleens performance that they complained to the fia board which resulted in the s7 getting slapped with restrictors greatly reducing the cars performance, and opened the door for corvette to obtain their first wins. The S7 would win in 2010. Saleen ran their mustangs at lemans in 1997 and 1998. Saleen Mustangs were the first in decades to bring the fight onto european turf.
This car back in the day was like my super snakes.Nothing was fucking with this car.Same as today not many cars can hang with my SHELBY built 900hp 10 grabber blue super snake.
My buddy had a red 95 S351 with low miles all original lol I wish I bought that car but like I said in the 90s my 87 mustang GT 5.0 had nothing for a S351
This wasn’t my first exposure to anything Saleen (that was from a McDonald’s Monopoly game commercial where 2 Saleen Mustangs were one of several prizes on that game), but it WAS my first exposure to anything Saleen in action as well as Mr. Saleen himself and his philosophy of what a Mustang could do.
